Poor for Many, Good for Few 9/28/2010

I think Ruth Chris' works well if you're going as a small group but they're not on top of things for bigger groups. I have been on a date with just another person and had excellent service and the food as always is great! I did experience a sort of slow, irritated wait person when we were a party of six. This time the food came out a bit slow and one person waited for an unusually long wait while the rest of us just sat trying to be polite and wait for the last dish to show up. This I thought was sort of uncomfortable for the one person as he said to start and don't wait for him. I still felt bad when he got his food after we waited for his to come out any minute. Otherwise the food was excellent. more

Still seatin on the table 12/6/2009

I think the food gonna be good its a lil pricey also the service is weak we told the lady we weren't ready to order cuz we had just sat down and she took forever to come back more

I discovered steak thanks to Ruth's Chris! 4/29/2009

Although I was never really a "steak" person, DH and I decided to try Ruth's Chris because he loves steak and what better way to try to convert me than by taking me to a restaurant known for their excellent steaks? Thank you, Ruth's Chris, your Petite Filet made me appreciate red meat like I never have before! :) We've been eating at Ruth's Chris several times a year since then and our favorite side dish is the sweet potato casserole...deLISH! The Caesar Salad is very good, but we both prefer the Ruth's Chop Salad. Pros: Filet Mignon, Service Cons: Not cheap...but you get what you pay for. more

Bad attitude, crowded, noisy, and a waste of time. 12/28/2008

We had 7pm reservations to celebrate an anniversary. The host had an attitude and told us we would have to wait 15 minutes. After 35 minutes, we asked about our table to a different host who told us we had been seated already. I told him that wa impossible since I was standing in front of him. He apologized and said we would have the next table available. We left and went to Harris' Steakhouse one block down (much better choice!). HPR was crowded and alot of people were waiting and it was very noisy as well. Glad we left. Pros: Dont know Cons: Crowded, long wait more

Ehhhhhhhh.... 7/6/2008

I wanted to go some place special for my birthday so I picked Ruth Chris. I had a memorable meal here about 8 years ago. This time it was memorable for the wrong reasons. First of all..when did the menu go from "expensive" to "house payment". Seriously. If you're ordering ala carte, be prepared to splurge. I do need to say our waitress was absolutely amazing but here is the problem..we both had to send our steaks back. Mine, which I ordered medium, was almost raw and my partners, which he ordered medium well was a piece of meat that had died twice. It was a bit odd too, that when we sent back the second steak, some guy we hadn't seen brought it back. As if to say, hey deal with me if you have a third complaint. Wierd. Hey, everyone should know by now what a medium and medium well steak looks like..and it wasn't a busy night. Cook the steak right the first time, we're talking about a $65 piece of meat. So, we won't be going back there for steak. The place is beautiful and comfortable but..ehhhh. Pros: Very Comfortable, Good Service Cons: Had to send both steaks back more

Best Steak and Service 2/8/2008

I have been here a few times but most recently I took my wife for our wedding anniversary. They took VERY good care of us. I had no problems with the reservation and when we arrived they had a personalized greeting card. The food was amazing as always and the service is exceptional. I have no problem paying top dollar for excellent service and great food. Pros: Everything Cons: nothing more

mmmm butter 9/19/2007

i've been to all the steakhouses in the city and ruth chris is still by far the best. i don't care if it's a chain, the food is good and so is the service. anything drenched in butter flashed broiled and a glass wine to wash it down with is a.o.k. more

Not Bad, But Not Worth the Price 7/26/2007

The food wasn't bad, but definitely not worth the price! My steak was burnt on the sides, which was not very appetizing, and the butter on top just made everything greasy without adding any flavor. I was also tricked with the water--they asked me if I wanted Pellegrino, and at the end of the night I realized I was charged $9!!! I ordered a rib eye that cost about $40. My husband ordered the bone-in rib eye. We asked for medium well, with just a little bit of pink, but the inside was pretty rare, although the outside was charred on the sides. I also thought it was weak that the steak comes ala carte with no sides when you have to spend so much on the meat. But the sides were actually worth their price, I think, while the steak was not. I enjoyed the sides more than the steak. The only thing I thought was great was the service. The waitress was very professional, quick and knowledgeable. That's the only thing that made the evening somewhat pleasureable. The food wasn't bad, but it is definitely not worth the price. I highly don't recommend it. Pros: Valet parking, courteous staff Cons: Price more

Spend your $ somewhere else 4/14/2007

I've been to House of Prime Rib, Morton's, Watergate, and now finally Ruth's Chris. The experience was disappointing. The atmosphere was dead and the food did not live up to par. Everything is ala carte and expensive. Expensive is fine if the quality reflects so, but it sure didn't taste like a $45 steak. My medium rare steak tasted no better than the one I ate at the Outback. It was just dry and hard to swallow. I didn't find the sizzling butter on my plate too entertaining. The high temperature of the plate combined with the butter cooked the steak more than what I wanted. The shrimp appetizer is $12 for 5 pieces and this is for regular size shrimp. A plain baked potato is $10 and the wine list is where they make the big bucks. A bottle of wine that you can get at the corner store for $10 cost more than a steak at this place. Don't waste your time with the caramel pie because it tasted ultra sweet. Brace yourself because the price tag is steep. So far, nothing has topped my experience at the House of Prime Rib. Now that's what I call a mouth watering, melts in your mouth steak. Pros: friendly waiter Cons: bad quality steak more

Try the pecan appetizer! 11/19/2006

Went for a birthday celebration in August. Had reservations but the table was not available when we arrived and we had to sit around the bar for about a half hour. Once seated we were given appetizers and dessert (for birthday) on the house as an apology. The pecan squash appetizer was practically suited for the dessert menu it was so sweet and delicious! Steak was very good but not as good as Harris'. Overall a good steakhouse, I'd go again but would prefer to go to another if in San Francisco. more

Not worth the money 9/25/2006

Ruth's Chris is a nice place to go but if you just want to go for the food, I suggest you going elsewhere. Their food is just average, something you can make at home. All I taste is mainly butter. The garlic mashed potatoes had no garlic taste, only butter. The food is good but not worth about $200 for 2. Like I said, for that price, you can get better and more food somewhere else. I also felt tricked because of the water. A waiter asked if we either want sparkling water or bottled water. We picked bottled water and when the bill came, that bottle of water was $8 (if I remembered right). I just assumed that is how Ruth's Chris serve water. Do not make the same mistake people. Another thing, when I made the reservations, they asked me if it was for a birthday, anniversary, etc. I told them that it was for a birthday but they didn't do anything special for us. Since they asked, I expected them to have a little something for the birthday guests but nothing. Everything's worth a try but I just hope that you won't regret it like how I do. Cons: price more

Great time out! 7/6/2006

The food here is simple yet delicious. The steak was so juicy and buttery...and the service was exceptional. They were not about to let your glass go empty. The food is pricey, it was about $350 for four of us (not including wine), but it is a steakhouse so it is expected. Oh, and althought I am not a fan of bread pudding, I am now. You have to try it. It is AMAZING! Pros: Steaks, Bread Pudding Cons: Pricey more

Best I've Had in the City 2/14/2006

I've eaten at Alfred's, Morton's, Lotus, Carnelian Room, Julius' Castle, Houston's, etc... Ruth's Chris has been my favorite. The steaks are perfect, the prawn appetizer is delicious, the garlic mashed potatoes are incredible and the service has always been good. They make a perfect filet mignon. I cannot think of anything bad to say about this restaurant. If only they had Kobe... Pros: Steaks, Mashed Potatoes, Service more

Wow, wow, wow!!! PERFECT DINNER! 1/2/2006

I have to say, this may be one of the finest dining experiences ever. I'd been to the Ruth's Chris in New Orleans some years ago, and have had my fair share of fine steaks in my day, but what made an impression on me, almost more than the food, was the service. What a difference good service makes! I may not even need to mention the food--it's incredible. The gumbo was delicious, the salads crispy and tasty, the bread hot and soft, the lobster succulent, and the beef--oh, the filet mignon!! But you already know the food is exceptional--let me get back to the service. Our waiter, and the entire staff, had us completely satisfied. His drink selections were right on, and he was able to perfectly balance catering to our occasional neediness, and not being overzealous with his presence. Absolutely wonderful dining experience!! Pros: astounding service, delectable food, A+ experience more

Best steak in the World!!!! 7/16/2005

Im a culinary school grad and this is the best steak u can get....and the morons who complain about about 10$ for the sides dont realize they feed 2-3 people. And I spent 90$ for two people...not 200. Almost didnt go because of a few negative reviews...but glad i ignored and went...a real winnner. Pros: food more

Good food, too expensive 7/10/2005

The food and steak here is good, but not great. The only thing that stands out is there service, ambiance, oh and the prices. It is very expensive here, you're mainly paying for service and ambiance. I personally go to restaurants for the food, and not for the service. But if you got the money and you don't mind spending about $50 a person for a special occasion, go try it out. Pros: Service, Ambiance Cons: Value, Price more

Good, but not that good for the $ 6/5/2005

I live in San Francisco, and I've been one time. I doubt that I will return. It wasn't a bad experience. The steaks were fine, but for the prices they charge, it wasn't worth it. The ala carte rib eye for $34.00 was only slightly better than a $18-20 "lesser chain" full course meal. The sides were large, but the waiter did tell us in advance. The overall service was adaquate, but a little forced and insincere. Pros: large portions, good steaks, good location Cons: over priced, insincere service, noisy more

excellent!!! 4/29/2005

This is the best steakhouse in the world in my opinion. every city I visit, I look for a Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. The food is excellent, the staff attentive, and whether you make a reservation or come as a walkin, there is very little waiting. Pros: Good Food, No Waiting, Attentive Staff Cons: None at all more

The Steak's Great 3/8/2005

The steak is cooked to order and the sides are divine. Cons: No Parking, Need to make Reservat, Expensive more

Ugh 9/28/2004

The time before the salad and the entre arrive within minutes of each other. I chalked it up to an new wait person. The last time we had to wait 15 beyond our reservation time to be seated in an empty dining room where we had to wait another 10 minutes before I had to interupt a huddle of 4 wait staff to order our drinks. After the drink arrived and dinner order taken we had to wait another 10 minutes after the waiter said he would send over the salads. Poor management is the only excuse. I'll return to Harris's. more
