Too much for too little 6/27/2004

Went to dinner after the opera. There were four in our party. Were set down quickly and was not given choice of booth or table, many available. Service was good, for the price i paid 160.00 for two with only water, and coffee to drink. My wife cooks a better steak at home. Was not impressed with there tough steaks, and fatty. Everything ala carte but 10.00 for side dishes get real. Will not go back again and WILL NOT RECOMMEND TO FRIENDS (If you want to keep them) VERY OVERATED!! I do alot of dining out. Pros: , service Cons: , Steaks, Ala Carte more

Good steak, but ... 5/27/2004

The food itself was great, but service and ambiance were awful. Several of us complained about the obnoxious businessmen next to us, but the restaurant did nothing. Greeter had attitude. We had to flag down our waiter for service, water, etc. Food took forever to arrive. For $180+ for 2 people, I was very disappointed. Never going back. Pros: Pretty surroundings, Good steak Cons: , Noisy, Bad service more

RC Palm Springs is better 5/20/2004

For those of you who continue to compare RC to Outback Steakhouse (OS), please, get a clue. If ANYONE considers that comparison, it's clear you don't know steaks (or food). I want to an OS once: when I stuck in a no-name city close to the airport. God-awful food. Period. RC San Francisco is not as good as RC Palm Springs or RC Chicago. I don't know if they use frozen beef in SF, but I think the steaks are average. Service on our visiting night was fine so no complaints there. The steak looked great, cooked just right (med-rare), but it was somewhat flavorless. As for the price, who cares? If you want Safeway or Albertson's steaks, then you need to go to Outback. Pros: Service more

Extremely disappointing 4/4/2004

Service was awkward, inept, and rude. The steaks were mediocre, at best. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday, hoping for a special celebration for him. A mutual friend had called ahead and ordered a very special cabernet to be sent to our table, only the waiter brought a bottle of champagne instead. We were surprised to get champagne as neither of us drinks it- but unfortunately didnt discover the mistake until days later. The food was disappointing, although the steaks- we had a new york and filet- were at least cooked right. Definately will not be back, and Im sorry my boyfriends birthday dinner was such a flop. Cons: , service, price more

Best of the Bay Area 3/7/2004

By far the most dynamic and best restaurant in the Bay area. Sizzling juicy steaks and a varied menu. I highly recommend accompanying the Porter House for two with asparagus, augratin potatoes and the steak house salad. Throw in a bottle of Beringer White Zinfandal and you have a meal fit for a King and Queen! Great location, the most dedicated staff and a great atmosphere. Pros: Atmosphere, Location, Food more

Wonderful Restaurant!! 2/17/2004

We were pleasantly surprised that the inside of the restaurant was so nice and comfortable. The staff was very attentive. The food was fabulous from the Lobster Bisque to the Steak and Lobster, and oh the Creamed Spinach was absolutely wonderful. Get there early for parking!! Pros: Ambiance, Food, Staff more

Love it! 10/20/2003

I've eaten at Ruth's Chris many times, since I live up the street from it. True, it is pricey, and I probably wouldn't go with a group larger than 6 unless I was prepared to spend several hundred dollars, but dinner for two with drinks is about $100, and I always enjoy it. My steak is always prepared as I ask for it--never over or undercooked. The sides are large, so share! I love their gin and tonics...a perfect pre-dinner drink. The ambience is intimate and romantic, so it's a good place for a date--if you want lots and lots of food! Perhaps a better place to go when you're in need of comfort food, and can go home and collaps after being throughly stuffed. Pros: Good food, Romantic ambience, Good service Cons: Expensive more

USDA Prime Baby!!1 9/28/2003

This is an expensive national chain, serving USDA Prime Grade Aged Steaks. For you people not well travelled, this sucessful Company is from New Orleans and serves ala carte items, which can make this an expensive dinner. If you do not like expensive steaks house, stay home or go to Outbacks for non-USDA Prime Grade Steaks!!! Pros: USDA Prime Grade Beef, Good Sides, Pecan Pie Desert Cons: Very Expensive , Rip Off Parking more

Soothed our Nerves 9/22/2003

My wife and I were in the City for the Christmas Holidays. Had reservation at Ruth's but couldn't get a cab. Walked to garage got car, called Ruth's and told them we'd be late. They said not to worry. Got there late had superb meal, calmed our nerves, and enjoyed S.F. very much. Pros: Great steaks, Great service more

Incredible!!!!!!!!! 9/5/2003

This was one of the best dining experiences I have had in San Francisco. The staff was friendly, they seated us before our reservation and the food was amazing. I hihgly recommend the petite filet and shrimp. The filet is a generous 'petite', you won't be disappointed. AWESOME overall experience! more

The BEST STEAK HOUSE 8/24/2003

The restaurant is one with impeccable service and the steak is to die for. The cost to visit this place is well worth it and should be understood since it is a 5 STAR Steakhouse. The Filet cooked medium is my favorite and be aware that sides are for 2 to 3 people. I have been to 5 different locations and have received superior service each time. Food is guaranteed to be sizzling hot. If you are just looking for over-priced, medium grade steak I suggest Black Angus or Outbacks. Not to mention the service you'll receive there either. Pros: STEAK, SERVICE, QUALITY more

Don't want butter? Tell the waiter! 8/1/2003

I personally think the steak here is consistently good as it serves only the best U.S.D.A. prime beef and other premium cuts. Ruth's Chris may be a chain, but you won't feel connected to anything while you're there except that primal urge of yours to eat steak. Pros: Steak Cons: Price more

slaughter house blues 2/3/2003

For the $ we paid, we expected a memorable experience here...DID NOT GET IT! waiter was incredibly rude and pushy for us to get more wine, more side dishes, and dessert. felt very pressured and uncomfortable, maybe b/c we look young for our age! ordered a medium rare filet mignon and received a tiny, burnt piece of sizzling beef. so so so disappointing...NEVER AGAIN more

THE BEST! 2/3/2003

The best steakhouse ever. Much better than Outback or others. Pros: great food more

Best meat in town 1/21/2003

I abhor chains and admit that Ruth's has a bit of a tourist-trap-chain feel to it. Still, it is hands down the BEST bovine banquet to be had in this fine city. If you're out to impress the boss, go to Morton's. If you want to impress your tastebuds, go to Ruth's! more

Overatted!!!!!!!!!! 1/12/2003

this restaurant is suitable for those with a lack of taste. For nearly fifty dollars, you get a sizzler quality steak and not much else. For less than half the price, and a much better steak, visit an outback near you. more

Wow what a meal!!! 1/12/2003

From the great atmosphere to the sizzleing steak as it was delivered with perfection, Ruth Chris' is a definate 10 on my scale. Being from the midwest this is a very, very top notch steakhouse. Price could be better but you get what you pay for these days. Pros: Taste, Selection, Variety Cons: Price, Location more

You better like butter! 1/12/2003

I have been told this was the best steak house by a lot of people so that was a good reason to try it. The place was nice and the service was good but the price for the steaks made my expectation very high. Yes it was a good steak but it never really got me into heaven maybe because it was soaking in butter. The side orders were terrible when you are use to the fine San Francisco cuisine and extremely greasy. My advice - go to Boulevard and hear the angles sing. Pros: Nice place, Good service Cons: Expensive, to much butter more

Good food. 1/2/2003

I don't think cooking the steak in butter really added anything to the meal but it didn't distract either. The side dishes were AMAZING and the potatos au gratin was the best I have ever had. Even though we had reservations we had to sit for almost 20 min waiting for a table. There were several large loud groups surrounding us so the place was not as romantic as it could have been. The waitstaff was very attentive though. more

not mentionable 12/18/2002

If you like a steak that is pricy and tastes like butter than eat at Ruth's Chris Steak House. Pros: nice ambience, good bread, good salad Cons: buttery tasting steak, high price, long wait more
