Best

Although this may be extremely difficult -- maybe even impossible-- to believe, Origami is easily the best sushi I've had in this country. And I've eaten at a LOT of sushi places...

Worst

snobby people that waited on us and the drinks were so spendy. the food was ok. if you want really good sushi try Wild Mint in Crystal, they have happy servers and great sushi....

Good Sushi but Bad Service 11/5/2011

I give the Sushi 4 stars, but the service 1 star. I went to downtown Origami at happy hour time. The sushi was good, but the waiter was slow and didn't pay attention to our order and didn't separate the bill. The waiter needs to get train again. more

Bad service: Questionable green tea 4/20/2011

First food isn't that great just average. We got seated at the sushi bar because tables were full. I ordered hot green tea and after 30 mins I asked my waiter if he had forgotten my green tea. He said ""yes I forgot, I will go get it"". He came back with 4 things in his tray, he went to my right and give other customer the bill then he went to my left to gave another customer some thing and I apparently his last priority even though he forgot my tea. He never apologized neither. I looked in my tea and saw some sort of foam floating on top and I assumed that he had spit in my tea. I didn't touch it. Just totally bad experience and again food isn't that great. more

Excellent Sushi 12/12/2009

Although this may be extremely difficult -- maybe even impossible-- to believe, Origami is easily the best sushi I've had in this country. And I've eaten at a LOT of sushi places, both in and out of the US. I can't speak to what the experience at a table is like, but why sit at a table if you are going to a sushi restaurant anyway? Sit at the sushi bar. The sushi chef is phenomenal; his knife skills and personality together make for an enjoyable evening. But, more importantly, the sushi is fantastic. It's unbelievably fresh and is cut exactly right. The rice is incredible, with just the right amount of stickiness and taste to compliment any fish perfectly. I always get nigiri and my wife gets sashimi; both were terrific. And the rice at Origami was so good that my wife even ate several pieces of nigiri. Every piece of fish that we got (we tried just about every kind available) was perfect. The soft shell crab was the biggest one I've ever gotten, and it was delicious in the hand roll I got. Overall, Origami is absolutely worth a try. Even if you don't love it as much as we did, you'd have to be crazy not to at least like it! Pros: Best sushi in the US more

Great Sushi! Great Atmosphere! 1/8/2009

I went to Origami with a group of friends. When we go there it was pretty slow but it got busier around 8pm. The sushi was very fresh and there were a lot of options and specialty rolls. Service was a bit slow when we wanted to order a few more rolls. Green tea ice cream was excellent but maybe too small of a portion. Overall, cool atmosphere, cool neighborhood, I would definitley go back. Pros: Good Food, Good Ambience Cons: Service was a bit slow more

Great sake, decent food 12/20/2008

Perhaps I set my standards a bit high because I've heard many wonderful things about Origami, but I would classify the sushi as average. Definitely tasty, but nothing to write home to Mom about. I much prefer Bagu in south Minneapolis.\r \r I will give them props on the many interesting specialty choices. I had a tasty roll called NY, NY and the combination of green apple and shredded crab was quite delicious. My other choices were average...the raw Tuna, which is usually my fav, was not the nice melt-in-your mouth kind and it didn't taste particularly good.\r \r There were a lot of unique sake choices that were quite good and our waiter was spot-on with his descriptions and recommendations. Pros: easily accessible Northloop neighborhood, mini parking lot accross the street, specialty rolls Cons: average food, average service, average prices more

Strictly OK... 11/1/2008

The title easily describes what I feel about Origami. The problem is...sushi should not be strictly ok...it should be an experience, especially when its expensive. I really liked the decor of the establishment and the music choice playing in the background. Unfortunately the sushi was average, at best. The fish itself was not the freshest that I have ever had, and the rolls were a bit sloppy in creation. I guess the reason why I was so disappointed was because everyone spoke so highly of Origami's sushi. Regarding service...it was also average. Our server was very pleasant, but not very helpful and the service was quite slow. \r \r Overall, I probably would not go back for sushi. There are at least 3 other sushi restaurants where I would go for sushi in its place. Pros: atmosphere Cons: food and service more

Great sushi always, work on service 4/7/2008

I've been an Origami veteran since I can remember and it is the one place I can go any day of the week & still find fresh fish. Staff is usually unorganized, but friendly. Sushi chefs are a bit stiff and slightly arrogant, so don't expect much friendly conversation with the exception of a few. This is typical Japanese, I would say, work first, talk later. This is probably why their sashimi is always top notch in MN. Much appreciation to the chefs and Ichi-san for sticking to quality. I think all they need is better staff training and a few more smiles from the chefs and there would be no more complaints. Love ya! Pros: Fresh fish Cons: better service & friendlier sushi bar more

Favorite Sushi 12/31/2007

Favorite sushi bar . Well worth the wait . Love the special treats from the sushi bar. Send the boys behind the bar some SAKE!!! Pros: Sushi, Chefs, Service Cons: waiting more

Sushi fit for a king 12/23/2007

Whenever we go for sushi in the Twin Cities, this is always the place in which we end up dining. The fish always tastes fresh, and the rolls are great also. Speaking of the rolls, try the Never Ending Summer Roll if it's still on the specials menu. The fresh flavor of this roll (fresh herbs, tuna, avocado) is accentuated with a garlic citrus ponzu sauce. Ask if they have any sockeye salmon and order it sashimi style. The martinis are creative and tasty. Don't be afraid of the Ichitini (cucumber, sake, vodka); it has a very clean smooth flavor. Pros: great sushi and drinks Cons: busy on weekends, limited bar space more

Contemptuous Service 11/25/2007

What a shock! We've eaten at Origami many times before, but this time, the service was inexcusable. We called ahead to see what the hours were for happy hour. They told us that it goes to 6:30 (40 minutes left) and as we were already downtown, we said ""great - we'll be right there"". \r \r When we arrived, we couldn't find the host for at least 5 minutes. Finally someone showed up, and he told us that the lounge was full, but would go check. We followed him upstairs, and he went to check, but disappeared. No sign for over 10 minutes. All the time, we stood staring at an open table. \r \r Next we found the real hostess, who told us that the guy we talked to was ""in training"". She also said there were no seats upstairs (despite the open table) and that none would open until happy hour was over. She would be happy to seat us downstairs with the full menu. By this time, 20+ minutes have passed. We left. \r \r Too bad - they will miss any business dinners I have coming up over the next year. more

Good Sushi, not so good service. 10/21/2007

Food was good, service not so good. We waited a half hour before a drink order was taken. The sushi was well prepared, fresh and good portion size. Parking was easy (and free) across the street. Pros: Food, Parking Cons: Service more

Fantastic Sushi!!! 11/22/2006

Origami has the best Sushi I have ever had. Service is great and if you're on the west side of the city, check out Origami West at the Ridgedale Mall. Pros: Service Cons: busy on the weekends more

Best Sushi 11/12/2006

I Love the sushi its is so good. The restaurant is small but comfy. The service is probably not the best they seem like they really hate people. But I just go for the food. more

So Good! 7/24/2006

THE BEST sushi restaurant in the city!!! They only sell whats fresh and in season- no matter how popular an item may be. Its expensive- but good sushi is ALWAYS expensive- dont bother going if youre on a tight budget because the bill can (and will) get out of control if youre not careful. They dont take reservations and the weight can get long. Dont go if youre on a tight schedule, but if you arent, they have a wonderful bar you can wait for your table in. Pros: Food, Service, Location (parking) Cons: No reservations more
