The New Downtown is the prize of the Minneapolis public library system. It is gorgeous, huge and a GREAT place to utilize-----if you want to go downtown for a library every time you go.
The rest of Minneapolis Public Libraries leave much to be desired. The locations are scarce-especially North Side. The ONE opperating one in North Minneapolisis Webber Park and it is so miniscule you will pass it if you blink. Their building old and mostly outdated. The selection--well all of it seems to be downtown now! I really wish someone would put more effort into Minneapolis's actual community libraries.
We usually use the Hennipen County Libraries because they are much better stocked, nicer and more convenient locations for their library buildings.

This is a great two level library, with many Internet stations, media stations, magazines and books. I usually go there to relax read a book enjoy the AC. They also have cds, video, audiotape, and DVDs. I should say used to have DVDs. Couple years ago instead of paying for a person for check out, the library installed three self check out stations. With in two weeks, all Disney, Warner, DreamWorks, anime DVDs disappeared from the library. Couple of the Art books that I read a lot at the library also went missing. When are people going to understand, not everyone has a heart of gold. This is a great library to go but do not expect every book will be returned if you are waiting for a book.
