Best

Although this may be extremely difficult -- maybe even impossible-- to believe, Origami is easily the best sushi I've had in this country. And I've eaten at a LOT of sushi places...

Worst

snobby people that waited on us and the drinks were so spendy. the food was ok. if you want really good sushi try Wild Mint in Crystal, they have happy servers and great sushi....

They don't take reservations 11/27/2005

I agree with several of the others who rated this restaurant. Overall it is difficult to get good service or good food at any Minneapolis restaurant. This one is no exception, and it is in an area of the city that is inconvenient. As far as I am concerned it isn't worth driving there unless they can guarantee me a table. Grow up Origima, your in a big city and big city restaurants offer reservations. Pros: Cocktails, Average Sushi, Atmosphere Cons: No Reservations, Service, Attitude more

Origami- A Fantastic Experience! 8/24/2005

I have had some bad sushi in the past- so Origami was a fantastic experience! I loved everything my boyfriend and I ordered. Our waitress was so knowledgeable and friendly- we wouldnt have had to know a thing about sushi- she would have taken care of it! Fun date idea for the adventurous (lots to take in and talk about) Pros: Great service, Fun atmosphere, Knowledgeable staff Cons: High-priced more

Best Sushi yet 6/8/2005

My husband and I have been to nearly every sushi bar in town, and Origami Minneapolis is simiply the best. We went there before a show at Jeune Leune, what a perfect evening! Pros: good parking, creative, fun drinks more

Sakura Wins 5/27/2005

The resteraunt wasn't what we expected after reading all the great reviews. We were definatly very dissapointed. The atmosphere and service was good. The sushi however pails in comparison to other sushi places such as sakura in downtown St Paul. The prices were very high for the amount and quality of sushi you get. Overall, very dissapointed and will not return. Pros: atmosphere, service, presentation Cons: price, quantity, quality more

For the first or second date 3/23/2005

This place is very popular, so don't expect to be seated right away. The associated bar upstairs from the restaurant is the perfect place to grab a drink while waiting for your pager to blink. They have a very impressive sake list, and the staff can make reservations. If your there to nosh purely on sushi, ask to be seated at the sushi bar. Seating with the platters might be a little snug. I had no idea you could make your stomach hurt by eating too much. Pros: sake list, fresh products more

User review by chefminni 3/15/2005

cramped? yes. 30min + wait? yes. Worth it? yes. probably the best the twin cities has to offer for sushi. There are ""room"" for improvement but their food brings people back. Pros: best sushi in town, authentic food Cons: cramped quarters, long wait, parking more

best sushi 12/27/2004

Small and cramped, I still find myself going back to this backstreet shoebox to get my 'outstanding sushi' fix. Not exactly 'private' or 'romantic', but the sushi bar and close quarters make for some interesting encounters for the unattached. All in all the best sushi I have found in the Twin Cities thus far. Pros: Great Food, Good Service, Sushi Bar Available Cons: , Remote Restrooms, Metered St Parking more

OK food - bad service - bad overall 11/5/2004

Host was rude and had an attitude problem (misplaced air of self-importance). Appetizers came about 30 minutes after ordering. Main course came on time but was cold. Food was average--it wasn't bad yet nothing was really memorable either. This restaurant is way too cramped. I would not recommend this restaurant and won't be returning. more

too expensive, boring menu 10/7/2004

Have anyone ever heard of paying 10% service charge for a TAKE-OUT MENU??? So you take out, but you still have to pay the (unknown) waiter/ress a 10%?!! The food is at most B. In fact, what else do we expect from Japanese food. Tempura, yakiniku, bentos, variety of dons (unagi, katsu etc), udons, ramens, and sushi.......soo boring, these are basically the complete Japanese menu list. So, do Japanese themselves keep eating Tempura on Monday, Udon on Tuesday, Katsu-don on Wednesday .... and cycle it till they die? Japanese cuisine they serve is so DEAD BORING. Same stuff all over the place. more

tooo exspensive 9/22/2004

snobby people that waited on us and the drinks were so spendy. the food was ok. if you want really good sushi try Wild Mint in Crystal, they have happy servers and great sushi. Pros: ambience Cons: , expensive more

Mixed Experience 8/29/2004

Origami has great food compared to Nami, but the service is reprehensible. Our group ordered Origami martinis, which were delicious, but one very obviously did not contain the right proportion of ingredients. Instead of offering to remake the martini, our waitress decided it was a personal insult and slammed things down on our table and treated us rudely for the rest of the night. It's really too bad that staff attitudes were not also altered with the remodeling of the downtown Origami. I won't be back. Pros: great food more

MELT IN YOUR MOUTH 8/22/2003

If you love sushi this is the place to go. Although they are in the higher price scale, the quality and freshness can't be beat. They have all the regular sushi, but you have to try the tuna tataki appetizer. I've ordered 2 as my dinner entree because it's so good. Pros: bit pricey, parking, crowded Cons: food, food, food more

The Best 8/12/2003

I would have to say Origami is the best sushi place I've been to yet! I have friends that live in San Francisco that came out here this summer and BOTH of them said it was the closest to their sushi that they've had in Minnesota. Phenomenal! Pros: freshness, selection, presentation Cons: consfusing entrance more

sushi 8/3/2003

Origami,Fujiya and Sushi Tango are the most over rated resturants of any kind in the Twin Cities. You should have some Japanese people rate these. My step father was Japanese and he would just shake his head at the wafer thin peices of fish that are served at these joint. The only Japanese resturants that are consitantly good are Kikugawa and Sakura Pros: food looks good Cons: long wait, crowded, over priced more

for the best sushi in town go to origami 7/14/2003

origami is by far the best sushi place i have dined at in the twin cities. the menu is filled with traditional japanese dishes plus many others that you have never heard of. with the best quality of sushi in town, a vary relaxed atmosphere, and friendly staff origami is my number one choice for shushi. Pros: great food, freidnly staff, relaxed atmosphere more

Where's the ""Fish""!!! 3/6/2003

Origami's atmosphere is better than most sushi restaurants around town, but the wait even for lunch can be very long. The sushi portions have definitely gotten smaller over the years and are the smallest I have seen anywhere. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Long Waits, Portions more

Now that's sushi! 2/4/2003

Amazing everything--a knowledgable, competent waiter, excellent ambiemce, and the best sushi I've had this far inland. A wonderful choice, whether you're a sushi neophyte or an old hand with wasabi in your veins. Pros: Great, fresh sushi, ambience, decor Cons: parking, a bit hard to find, a bit crowded more

Not any more! 12/15/2002

Ok Origami Used to be good. Years ago! Now Too expensive and the quality is leaving. The Parking is CRAP. The attitude is stuffy, almost snobish. Take a short drive to KABUKI's Pros: they serve sushi Cons: attitute, parking, price more

Better than Most on the Coasts 11/27/2002

I love sushi, but am often disappointed by the poor quality. I have yet to be disappointed at Origami. more

June Is Our Hero 11/21/2002

As a member of the Junesan fan club -- he is the best sushi chef in town. As for Origami the quality and selection of the fish is first rate, the staff is fun ... and then there is June. Pros: Great Location, Excellent food, Chef June Cons: $$ more
