want to love it but just can't 8/27/2009

i want to like this place. the yard is kid friendly and comfy, the drinks are cheap and the food is good. But the service stinks. Maybe I'm too old and just not hip enough think some cool murals and solar panels make a place to cool it doesn't matter how the staff treats you. The system for ordering food and drinks isn't obvious. your first time there you wan to go directly to the truck to place an order because you see people getting food there. A small sign, waaaay above your head tells you to order inside and poor you if you miss it. the guys in the truck will do the least they can to help you -- and don't even think about asking them for a straw. Pros: good food, fun space, kid friendly Cons: service is arrogant and flat out bad more

Awesome mojitos, great on a nice day 6/12/2009

This place is worth it for the frozen mojitos. But beware: when it is crowded (as it tends to be on sunny days) the mojito machine can't keep up and the mojitos are not frozen, but still sold as mojito soup for $8. You'd think they would have gotten another machine to pick up the slack, but they haven't. The food is inconsistent - sometimes the Cuban sandwich is spot on, but others (like last night) half my sandwich was giant gobs of pork fat with no meat. And once my eggs with ""Mexican cheese"" had American cheese on top. The corn and plaintains are usually pretty good. I saw a rodent (citysearch won't let me publish the real word) scurrying across the outdoor patio last night, but I guess it's an outdoor place in NYC so that's gonna happen. Anyway, I'm realizing this review sounds negative but I live nearby and frequent Habana often for drinking, just want to point out the potential problems! Pros: frozen mojitos, cheap beer, atmosphere on sunny days Cons: food and drinks inconsistent more

Great spot in Brooklyn 2/25/2009

i want to love it but can't 2/13/2009

i used to be a diehard fan but i feel like the heart and soul is gone from this place. i have been involved with a couple of different events organized here through the staff and that neighborhood feeling is gone. one of the events was a child's birthday party and it was a huge let down! what remains is a ""we're in it for the money"" hustle, which is unfortunate for a place that is really trying to go for the solar powered, community-oriented kid friendly vibe. maybe it's management? more

Habana is a Mexican place it isnt Cubano so stop complaining 8/18/2008

i swear newyorkers are the worst when complaining about authenticity more

Fun place, but NOT CUBAN 6/4/2008

I like the atmosphere here, and the drinks are good, but as a Cuban I am going to tell you that this restaurant is NOT CUBAN, and to call it such is offensive. It is a Mexican restaurant (tortas? burritos? roast corn?) in a Cuban costume. The only ""Cuban"" things are tostones (very good), and Cuban sandwich (awful). more

Get your cheese corn from the truck 8/10/2005

A good concept, and an even better execution. The menu is small, but everything is very good and low priced. The drinks are STRONG. Hipster crowd, but not pretentious. Ideal for a warm summer nights. You have to listen over the noisy outdoor din so the sweaty cook in the food truck by the wall yells out your order is ready. The cheese corn is fabulous. The Cuban sandwich is ok, but needs better bread. Great fries! Plantains were good, but the portion was kinda skimpy. Overall, a great addition to Bklyn. Pros: good food, strong drinks, hep crowd Cons: for what it is, the place rocks more

I LOVE this place 7/15/2005

Truly a gem in NYC. There's really no concise way to explain this spot... you have to check it out to really understand what it embodies. The owner is really chill, the employees friendly, the music great. You have to try the spicy, cheesy corn; it's addictive. If you want a unique, mellow day in New York, this is the place to go. Pros: atmosphere, people more

Fun in the sun 7/4/2005

This place is just great. Solar-powered electricity, tons of outdoor seating, a funky, fun ambiance and music. Beer, corn on the cob and other snacks are served out of a colorful cart. Make sure to come on the weekends when they have a flea market. Pros: Large outdoor area, Laid-back vibe, Cheap eats Cons: Service slow more
