Pizza 1/16/2006

This Williamsburg pizza shop opened back in 04, it is nice and cozy. The restaurant is known for its real brick pizza. It houses it own green house in the back so customers can see where the herbs that are used in their food is being grown. Try the Margherita pizza. more

Specialty Pizza 8/13/2005

Fornino is just steps away from the Bedford L, and offers a rather distinguished atmosphere compared to the other neighborhood pizzerias. I have ordered two different pizzas here...the first came out with literally 2.5" of burnt crust on the edges, so much so that we all decided to eliminate this pizzeria from our list of good spots in Williamsburg. I returned once more, firmly believing that a place deserves a second chance, and split a salad and pizza with a date. We left with a few pieces of extra pizza, but were pretty disappointed with the salad. (The idea that a salad is a pile of varied greens with a few cherry tomatoes does not sit well with me.) I would recommend the Eggplant pizza, it was quite nice, and the second time I went, there was no 2.5" burnt crust edge! On the whole, try this place out, unless you are low on $$, as you can step over to Anna Maria (3 stores down) and grab a pizza for about $8-10. (Oh, and P.S.- the servers do not know what type of wine their house wines are...) more

Editorial
  • The glow from the restaurant's wood-burning oven carries a warm welcome to the unpretentious neighborhood crowd. The narrow front room lined with wooden tables opens into an indoor/outdoor back dining room, overlooking potted herbs that top the pies. Generous toppings grace the more than 20 pies, organized by first, second and third generation. Even on the classic, normally spare, margherita, the rich mozzarella nearly overpowers the sweet tomato sauce; yet the richness is addicting. The thin crust, charred black around the edges, adds a smokey dimension to each slice.
