Diadem

I was introduced to Diadem by a friend. I have only been going to Lisa for 2 months but I know that I have finally found ""my stylist""! I do not have a relaxer and Lisa keeps my hair healthy, shiny, and beautiful! I have received so many compliments on my hair. Everyone is shocked to know that I do not have any chemicals in my hair, yet it is so straight, soft, and silky! The atmosphere of the salon is relaxing and friendly. I enjoy coming to the salon and I am so grateful that my friend introduced me to Diadem and my stylist, Lisa! Pros: wonderful atmosphere, friendly staff, healthy hair more

I was working a lot right before vacation and realized I had forgot to make a hair appointment. I searched and searched on this site and found Diadem. Honestly, I only read one or 2 reviews and they were glowing. I had been by their old shop and thought they looked hip and trendy, just the kind of place I need to maintain my desired hairstyle. They were able to fit me in quickly. The receptionist was lovely on the phone and was sweet in helping me find a solution when my original stylist was unavailable due to a sick child that day. She scheduled me with Shamika who I must say does excellent work. However, I would caution them that when they have a customer who differs from the norm to be a little more subtle in their discussion of her. I did not realize when I made the appointment that the majority of their clientele is african american. I felt bad already as the caucasian hair requires different product and technique however I had subscribed to the theory of my AA male friend that if someone is a good stylist they can do your hair no matter what. I had been there for about 20 minutes when the lady from the desk walked over to whom I found out later was my stylist and made a comment. After she jumped, spun around and realized I was looking at her, both ran into the back room for several minutes with the door closed. After emerging they came to the front desk right next to the waiting area where they both entered, again shut the door(which wasn't shut at any other time during my visit) and stayed there for several minutes talking to another stylist. I did get a fabulous cut and quite honestly it was cheaper than I have paid in a long time. I looked awesome on vacation and had people raving about how my hair looked. However, the above mentioned incidence has made me reluctant to schedule another appointment. Such issues need to be handled with a certain degree of professionalism that was severely lacking. Pros: Great cut and skill. Good value Cons: Although understandably shocked, showed somewhat unprofessional behavior. more

My experience with Diadem started some years back. I went once with a friend and got rave reviews on my hair, I loved it and it was without a perm. Because I live in DE the commute was too much for a weekly appt. so I went to someone else for 2 years. My hair was not as healthy but it always looked nice. Recently I had a falling out with my stylist so I went to Diadem again in PA, and found out that Des comes to DE on Tuesday, well that was all that I needed to know. So now I go each week and make my appointments well in advance to aviod confusion and last minute drama. As a recent college grad I can afford the prices and yes I do have bills to pay and I'm still doing well. So the prices don't bother me, I already know what to expect and others should too if they want healthy hair. EXCELLENCE COSTS BUT IT PAYS FOR ITSELF! And about the wait time it's the same as any other salon, you have to wait your turn! But realize that when 1st timers come it will take longer because they need a revamp. Would you rather get in and out and look a mess or have damaged hair? No, so BE PATIENT! And I have seen many older women get their hair done and have never seen anyone being rude to them, especially Ron, he's the nicest person ever! So remember if you have an attitude about anything you're going to think someone is talking about you when in fact that may not be the case so never jump to conclusions without concrete evidence. Let me tell you about life before Diadem. I was a person who received touch-ups every 6-8 weeks. I had to get my hair cut off once because of over processing. Now let me tell you about life after Diadem. I have been with Dez for the last seven years. I do not get perms at all (haven't had one since 2004). At first I was very concerned about my hair looking puffy (you know, not straight at the roots), but after six months, I was convinced. As long as Dez does my hair, I can go without a perm. She has a touch that is one of a kind. I never, ever have a bad hair day, even when it is raining. I normally go every week, but my hair is so healthy, I can go longer if needed. I get stopped on the streets, in the mall, at the grocery store, the bank, etc. It has gotten to the point that men compliment my hair. In closing, I am known for two things, my profession and my hair. You cannot go wrong with Diadem, especially Dez. more

I went to Diadem in the Fall of 2007. I didn't post right away because I knew they would be looking for it and I wanted to give people a chance to see what I experienced. Pros: they're supposed to be goo. Unfortunately I was too old for them to work on. Cons: They are the worst customer service, the worst atmosphere, the worst vibe. They have the idea that they can stay in business and grow their business with their bad attitude. more

It is here where I am transformed from Miss Mundane to Miss Fierce without the fear of my hair being stiff, fried, or grease ladened. Diadem's owner, Desiree, has been styling my hair for 10 years and I have always been thrilled with the results. However, it's also been wonderful watching her grow from working at her very first salon and still building her book of clients, to having her own beautiful salon and waiting list of eager clients! I remember when Desiree offered ""lunch time"" specials for $20 or $25 for a blow-dry and curl so now 10 years later I am baffled by all of the comments about the prices, given the fact that the prices of most things increase year after year and the superior quality of the hair care products employed by Diadem. Desiree has worked hard at developing her styling skills, learning about new products, building her staff of talented stylists and providing a wonderful atmosphere at the salon. I get compliments on my hair all the time from strangers. I have a standing, weekly appointment and Desiree takes such great care of my hair that I don't have to do anything to it between visits! She convinced me to grow out my relaxer 3 years ago and it was the best thing I could have done. My hair is healthier and easier to take care of with more styling options. The prices are a bit higher than other salons but the results are well worth it, especially since I don't pay for relaxers anymore. Diadem's stylists take their time with each and every client! No client is rushed through their service and that's why every customer's hair is so beautiful when they leave the salon. If you are concerned about the prices, consider having a consultation and asking for the price before your appointment. The bottom line is that if you want beautiful, healthy hair, in a lovely atmosphere Diadem is the salon for you - just remember that you get what you pay for and everything is not for everybody. In efforts to find a stylist that focuses on the importance of maintaining the health of my hair I came across Diadem. The hair salon offers a relaxing atmosphere and the staff (especially Ms Carol) is very professional and makes you feel welcome. I choose Desi as my stylist and I am quite pleased with her abilities as a stylist as she listens to your concerns and does a remarkable job at styling your hair. I would highly recommend this salon to anyone who is looking for a salon that focus on healthy hair. I have to agree with some of the other posts that the prices are a bit higher than average but the trade-off in my opinion is that you get an above average salon experience. They use high end products, they take their time with your hair and you will not walk away disappointed. I was referred to Desiree seven years ago and it was the best move I could have made. When I started with Desi I was still getting relaxers and styling my own hair. With her advice I stopped relaxers and put down the excessive heating devices. I visit the salon every two weeks and my hair is now trained to the point where I don't have to do anything in between. I can't tell you the last time I washed and styled my own hair. She takes care of my hair as if it were her own. There was a point where I thought the prices were getting a little high. I spent a few months searching for a new stylist. I could not find anyone to handle my natural hair the same way. The positive comments from strangers began to stop and my fiance continued to ask, ""When are you going back to Desi, your hair doesn't look the same?"" At that point I realized that nothing in life is free and quality comes at a cost. I work too hard to short change myself. Diadem is a place to come and relax. The atmosphere is pleasant with no gossip, screaming kids or offensive food smells. Don't just take my word for it, try Diadem for yourself. The management and staff will make you feel like family. I was referred to this salon by a friend and her hair is gorgeous!!!!!. I was looking to grow my perm out and wear my hair natural. my hair had no life. Since I have been coming to Diadem, my hair is looking its best. I receive tremendous compliments. The salons I previously went to never cared for my hair, they just styled it. My hair is healthy now. The price does not bother me. ""YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR"" If I want something cheap, then the quality is going to be cheap, and it will show. I want beautiful results.I work too hard to not be able to treat myself, regardless of the price. This is my treat after a hard working week. The atmosphere is relaxing with calm music playing in the background. The stylists are very friendly, mature, helpful and they do not gossip!!!! more

I must say first that - my hair was beautiful after the visit. I wear my hair natural 100% of the time and haven't had it pressed in 2 years. Pros: knowledgable stylist, beautiful hair Cons: Price!!! - $200 for two people / Wait time - SIX Hours!!!! more

I moved from LA to the Philly-area about a year and a half ago. So of course, I was determined to find a hair salon that would cater to my hair's needs while maintaining its healthiness. After several months of searching, I was referred to Diadem, and fortunately my search was over. Every time I walk out of the salon, my hair shines, bounces, and flows thanks to Meka, my stylist. She has gotten to know me and my hair very well and as a result I trust her and her judgment. My hair is healthier now than it was in the past and I did not think that was possible. Plus, it has grown immensely since Meka insisted that I forgo the relaxer. With Meka or any of the other all-stars at Diadem you will be sure to walk out with straight, healthy, and manageable hair styled to perfection. more

I have been going to Diadem and the shop overall is very professional... Carol the receptionist is wonderful and the shampoo girls really know how to shampoos. Desi, Angeline are great stylists and knowledgeable about hair. If you are wearing your hair natural, only let Desi or Angeline, and Tiffany press your hair out...the others will burn you. I'm not from Philadelphia and I've had to try a couple of different place before I found this gem. My hair has never looked or felt better. I'm a regular with Angeline and she is the sweet attentive and honest (I can't tell you how many places I've been where stylist lie to you about the state of your hair) and this woman can do some hair no matter the texture or length. Diadem is a black women's dream come true! I no longer have to depend on perms or relaxers for hair management and reap the cost of the damage that it causes to my hair in the long-run. I can keep it natural if I want or change it up and get it curled or straight at Diadem w/o relaxers. My husband doesn't say"" what did they do?"" anymore when I would go to other salons but now he says ""wow that looks nice!"". I receive endless compliments in my church and neighborhood. It is professional with a warm atmosphere. It is no room for non-sense at the salon. You can go to any of their stylist and get great results. Nevertheless, you will always have your favorite, and mine is Shamika. She is always ready to answer my haircare questions and she knows her stuff. We also have other things in common as well. Lastly, you gotta try aleast once. Their new location will be fantastic for parking. I really love them and they are my dream come true for me and other women with coarse or curly hair. The majority of patrons come out this salon looking great. I was not that lucky - my style had an ""auntie Em' look from the midwest. I am not sure if it was because I am an older patron - all the staff are between 20 - 30 yrs old and addressed me as 'Ms. O' which made me feel 100 years old ( we are all adults, I am not your school teacher!) I am only 42 . I would have preferred a more ""hip & sophisticated"" look ( like the pic i brought in) - we do live in an Metropolitan city and I was not wearing a house coat or outdated clothing. This is not a salon for professional busy women. No respect for your time, the staff whispers to each other about the clients. As mentioned in a few other reviews there is definetiely an age prejudice toward older women. They do great hair, but at the cost of your time. You should not have to wait like a neighborhood salon and pay upscale prices. They do not even offer you water after waiting 4 hours. I found a stylist downtown that gets me in out in 1.5 hours, my hair is fabulous, and i do not feel old. Pros: great products and results Cons: staff can be immature, long wait time $$$ more

I LOVE my Hair Salon! Diadem is not just a service it is an experience. The owner and staff are wonderful. Friendly, down to earth with ability better than in LA, New York, or Atlanta. They are experienced and will make sure your hair is well taken care of. All you have to do is follow the directions and you too can have gorgeous hair! When I started going there my hair was damaged and a mess but now, I get people stopping me in the street telling me how pretty my hair is. Diadem is worth the trip especially if you value excellent hair care! From Ms. Carol, receptionist , to the one person that can wash, massage and stimulate my hair - Carrera. Her sweet nature restores my faith in all people. Carrera's disposition is so magnetic - you just want to be a better person after meeting her. And for the finale, Desiree. She can produce any style, image, beyond your wildest dreams. Her touch to your head feels like a spa experience. The look is Hollywood. I thank God for this masterful team. They have changed my life-style to greatness!!
