Worst

I live a block away from this place, so believe me, I wish it was better than it actually is. To be honest, the homebrew sucks. The ""ambience"" is fairly tolerable, so long as ...

my only tip is drink one of every beer there and say hi to Zambo, the master behind the brew! more

Great after a Giants game! 5/31/2010

This is the place to be after a Giants game! Especially if they win! The crowd is happy and the beer tastes that much better after a good win. The beer selection is always changing so you can try something new every time you're there. The watermelon beer is just OK, but it seems like a lot of people like it. I of course went with their IPA, which again, of course, was delish! I want to try this place again when it isn't so crowded so I can enjoy the good food selections without the big crowd. more

Fun place for good local beer 8/5/2009

I went to 21st A on a regular tuesday night out for beers after work and really liked it. I sat at the bar, tried one of their creative brews (watermelon wheat - refreshing) and ended up trying one of their ""beer cocktails"" too. Fun! Pros: Great beers, adventurous beer cocktails Cons: Don't try to go on a game day - total cluster **** more

awesome brews and pub food best in SF 7/7/2009

View the full Vindivine review here: h*ttp://bit.ly/pN0MM Since it's a brew pub, we'll start there. They always have a line up of 6-8 house brews plus a guest pour or two. Some of the best include the Watermelon Wheat (hey don't call it a girlie beer, there's 400 lbs of melon in each batch. Yummy), Opening Day IPA (hoppy but not too hoppy), General Pippo's Porter (essence of coffee and chocolate) and when they have it, the Double Trouble (or is it Triple? Or am I just thinking about the Beastie Boys?) Anyhoo, it packs a wallop so don't turn your back on it. First, how many times have I treated this watering hole like my beeyaatch and not given in the h-u-g-e props it deserves as both a watering hole and an eating hole? Pros: great beers, now beer cocktials too Cons: crazy busy at Giants games more

If your from out of town and Love Great Microbrews, Food, and Service you need to STOP HERE! 1/29/2009

First of all the only bad thing here is the parking and I had no change for the meter BUT I did have cash. Living in Portland now, I walk in feeling a little weird about having to ask the bartender for meter change, I get a big smile and she says of course how much do you want. WOW!, not used to that. Pros: Everything-Great Food, Beer, Friendly Service Cons: Parking-IT'S WORTH THE PRICE OF METER AND THE WALK! more

Great beers 12/4/2008

Love this place. Great beer selection, close to work - what more can I ask (Also, testing Facebook Connect :-) ) more

Happy Hanger... 11/30/2007

Wow. Went to 21st last night with co-workers to celebrate some recent success. We arrived just before the ""Happy Hour"" deals ended at 5:30pm. We ordered wings, calamari, fries and a couple of pizza- all were tasty. We sat upstairs for a bit more room and privacy. A game was on tv and the atmorspher was fun. Warning: I had a couple of IPA's and boy, do they provide a whallop the next morning. more

Great happy hour location 11/30/2007

Hosted a company happy hour upstairs last night and had a great time there. Plenty of flat panels around to watch the game, $3 appetizers and $3 pints. The IPA and Watermelon Wheat were very popular. The staff was attentive and helpful. Be careful, the brewpub beers sneak up on you a bit (both at the time and the next morning). Pros: Great beer selection and happy hour appetizer menu more

HORRIBLE 8/17/2007

Me and my boyfriend have been there plenty of times. Everytime to be greeted with horrible service: our food got taken away without asking if we had finished, I got sprayed with beer because the bartender was inexperienced at using a bartap (not to mention he didn't take our order till he passed us about 5 times eventhough the bartap was right in front of us), our waitstaff is always unfriendly, this is the last time we will ever go there - i ordered a vodka cranberry and my boyfriend a screwdriver, which tasted like cranberry juice and orange juice (after I told them my first drink tasted like just juice). I would rather goto BURGER KING than go to this horrible place, i'm sorry if i'm paying for a dinner at a ""RESTAURANT"" i expect it. They should just stick to serving beer and food to hicks! Pros: DONT GO THERE IF YOU WANT TO BE TREATED WITH RESPECT! Cons: HORRIBLE more

So slow 8/13/2007

Ordered a ""to go"" order and was told it would take 15-20 minutes. Okay, well, a little long, but I could use a break. When my order was still not ready 30 minutes later I was getting a little steamed. 40 minutes after I ordered, I finally got my hamburger (yes, that's all I ordered). No one came by to check on me, offer me water or apologize for the delay. I know this isn't ""fast food"" but 40 minutes is unacceptable. I'm never going back. more

SOMA beer stop 8/1/2007

Excellent brewpub, with great happy hour prices and tasty food. Easy to access from public transport, well worth seeking out. Service is excellent if a bit neutral on the friendliness. Maybe if you're a regular.....? Good place to kick back and enjoy a few brews. Pros: Great brews and grub Cons: Not overly friendly more

Top Of The Line Brew Pub 7/8/2007

The 21st Amendment is one of the best brew pubs around. They make some great beers (and some very interesting ones such as the Watermelon Wheat) and they serve them alongside some great food. I have eaten here a number of times with different people and we have all enjoyed everything we tasted. The waitstaff in the restaurant section are always great even if the bartenders can be a bit rude from time to time. This is a great lunch spot but beware if there is a baseball game at the nearby park, the 21st Amendment will be overflowing with baseball fans enjoying a beer before the game. Pros: Great Beer, Great Food Cons: Crowded During Baseball Games, No Parking more

Great service, simple menu, what else 3/31/2007

We went here after hitting Jeremy's across the street. On Sundays, it was one of the few places open near the store, so our expectations were not very high. However, their excellent customer service won us over. We loved their bread and asked our waitress where it was from. Instead of just giving us the name of the bakery and the type of bread (which they did), the manager gave us half a loaf of their Pugliese bread (about the size of a regular loaf of french bread) on the house. The menu was simple yet satisfying. Even though this is a brewpub, it turned out to be an excellent place for lunch after a vigorous day of shopping. Pros: Great service and location more

Great neighborhood beer and ?? 1/29/2007

21A has great beer. Watermelon wheat rocks. The food is generally good. I've found it varies...they've changed their menu several times in the last few years. While I generaly support menu changes, I've been disappointed by the choices in what they take off and what they replace it with. Bring back the 1/2 salads and the apps. Pros: Beer Cons: menu changes more

Are there any decent brewpubs in the city? 11/2/2006

21st seems to try a bit too hard to be an upscale brewpub. And a brewpub with a full bar nonetheless. If you want to highlight your beer selection, my preference would be that beer comes first. But that's just me. Food was average. Friend ordered a wine (yes, I know...) and the waitress returned a few minutes later saying they were out of it. OK, no problem, she ordered another drink. Not a minute after the waitress leaves, another server delivers my beer and the original wine! So we tell this guy to cancel the second drink order with the waitress, and what happens? That's right, she shows up with the second drink. Not the most efficiently run place... more

Dont be fooled!!!! 8/9/2006

I have to admit that I have dined and drank beer in this place at least 6 times with friends. Food is decent , beer is good, atmosphere is lively and full of energy. But my visit yesterday changed my overall feelings about this place. I could not believe the treatment we got from the Manager of this restaurant. He was very rude and discriminating. We politely asked if we can get a booth and he said no because its for four people so, its fine by us , we do understand that they have to maximize seating. As soon as we got seated, 2 guys came and they were seated at the booth!!! My friend approached the Manager and asked why the 2 guys got the booth and the manager's reply was "" so??????"" in a very rude voice and then added 'do you want to be seated in a table for six ?? . .. we were just astonished and blown away .. . needless to say that we walked out and would never visit this place again. I hope this experience would be a wake up call to those who think this place is great. Pros: convenient to people who work and live in the neigborhood Cons: the Manager more

Beer good: Food bad 6/28/2006

Been here many times before. The beer is still good. But the quality of the food has declined. I got the Rueben sandwich recently. It can only be described as inedible. Atmsopherewise is has a nice vibe and comfortable surroundings. Won't be going back anytime soon for the food. Pros: Close to AT&T Park, Parking easy at night. Cons: Parking difficult if there is a game. more

Tasty food, and a well crafted beer 11/8/2005

had dinner here tonight... the Jerk Chicken dish was very good! Spiced so that you want to dip the bread to get all the juices! paired with their IPA... Excellent meal. gets pretty loud in here... Pros: jerk chicken, IPA Cons: noise level? more

Amazing dinner, disappointing dessert 10/9/2005

From reading past reviews, the calibre of this restaurant seems to entirely depend on when you dine there. I didn't find the restaurant very loud, and the service was friendly and fast. The sweet potato soup and the arugula and spinach salad were awesome! When it came time for dessert I was ready for something great, but the chocolate pear fruit crisp I had tasted bland and old. It was a disappointing end to a really good meal. But I would give them another shot. Pros: tasty, fast, friendly Cons: poor dessert more

Bad Brunch 9/12/2005

We went here for Sunday Brunch and were very disappointed with the food. The orange juice was old, the place smelled like a mixture of stale beer and ammonia, the food was quite mediocre, and the service slow. Next time we will just go the the ball park which has better food, and a much better atmosphere. more
