Good eats, great prices! 8/17/2005

This has been the best "hidden treasure" restaurant that we've been to in a long time! I never get tired of the beans & rice chicken thigh combo! Only $5! The place is small, and there may be lines, but stick it through. Their pork sandwiches are the best in the city for the price. I'm looking forward to trying all of their menu items! more

Worth the hunt 8/16/2005

Paseo is not easy to find -- it's a tiny place on Fremont Avenue, just up from the Buckaroo Tavern, with a minimal sign. But come at dinner time, and you'll be able to identify it by the crowd spilling out the door, waiting for delicious Cuban food, to pick up or eat at one of the five or so tiny rickety tables. Come early to get the specials -- chicken roasted till it falls off the bone, on a bed of white rice and incredibly tasty black beans, or fried fish that looks amazing (haven't tried it yet). Or just get the Cuban Midnight sandwich, a tower of tender roasted pork, unbelievably sweet and savory slow-roasted onions, lettuce, peppers and mayonnaise on a crusty baguette. It's messy, drippy and it comes with a little piece of corn on the cob. What could be better? Don't forget to ask for rice pudding -- it's homemade and comes free with dinner if you ask. A great end to a memorable meal. more

Great food, recently remodeled 8/3/2005

I've been going to Paseo for many years (I lived nearby from 1992 to 2004). I love their sandwiches - just make sure you roll up your sleeves first - they're messy! The rice and beans are excellent, as well, although the spiciness varies day-to-day - it's been too hot for my son a couple of times, but usually it's just right. Actually, almost everything is good. I've never tried the tofu dishes, but I've had everything else. The corn on the cob is usually nasty, but that's just a side anyway. They recently remodeled, expanding out into what used to be the entryway - it's still tiny, but not quite as tiny as it used to be. I ALWAYS call in my order ahead of time, as otherwise you'll sit and wait for quite a long time before you get your food. more

Get there in time to get a pork sandwich! 9/10/2004

Lately, they have sold out when I've been there just past 7pm and I've left. The pork sandwich is worth the trip--- Macrina bread, carmelized onions, naughty aioli and fresh romain lettuce with a delightful pork selection. A side salad with beets and a great vinagrette is yummy too. Perhaps call ahead to see if they still are making the sandwiches and save yourself the trip. more

Tasty but Greasy and Slow 7/9/2004

These guys take a long time to make food. I had a really good blackened chicken sandwich--but it was greasy and messy. Their food is reasonably priced... I'd say its worth a trip for lunch if you're in the area. more
