SIMPLY THE BEST 5/4/2010

Linda English is the best stylist I've ever had, and one of the nicest too. Great staff--personable and accommodating. I like most of their products very much. Little treats like scalp massage during shampoo and hand massage during haircuts are lovely extras and make one feel pampered. I always look forward to my appointments at Jon English Hairspa. Definitely worth the price! more

Read this before you go...especially if you're brunette 4/27/2009

I gave this salon a few chances...and I won't be going back again. They rely too heavily on their reputation for being a trendy, good salon. It's simply not. Perhaps the worst considering there's a 50/50 chance you'll have a great result and they have horrible business practices. I understand everyone makes mistakes. That said, when mistakes happen, I expect them corrected. Not only to make the client happy, but so I'm not walking around with horrible hair...telling people which salon to avoid. I'm a brunette with once subtle, thin, blended highlights -- the result was a nice light brown. Yesterday, I went in to have them touched up and my greys dyed a light brown. What I'm staring at now are dark brown roots over an inch long, with bright light yellow streaks. Wow. I look like I need a dye job basically -- $150 later (with tip) When I told them yesterday that it looks horrible, they said they can't fix it until monday or tuesday. When I pushed to get it fixed that same day or Saturday I was told they don't fix mistakes on Saturdays because they fix it for free and are too busy. I am appalled. This was their second chance. The first time they left my color on so long, I had dull almost black hair (over saturated). And then they talked me out of lightening it...said I should use conditioner instead??? And expected me to purchase their conditioner. I shouldn't have given them a second chance. more

Not worth it 12/12/2008

I was definitely not happy with the service. The cut was fine, nothing special, and my stylist barely spoke to me and did not go over what I wanted in a haircut. It was quite an odd experience. more

Best Salon Ever - but it's ruining my savings account!!! 1/14/2007

I went into Jon English a few years ago with a definite need for a change - I was trying to grow out a huge at-home mistake I did on a whim. I left the salon with the best cut and color I have ever had in my life! I have gone back to the same stylist every time, but my only gripe is that my visits are getting further and further apart because I just cannot afford to go there anymore! My stylist is fabulous, but each time I see her the price magically rises. I recently moved to a suburb north of the cities, using this as an excuse not to go in to see her. I desperately need to get my hair done and I have even made an appointment at a tiny salon here "in town" that I am seriously rethinking. I don't think I could forgive myself if I were to receive a horrible cut and foil from this other salon, only to have to go into JE with my tail between my legs begging for my gal to fix it!! I think I'm just going to have to give in and spend the money at JE - it's simply the best salon in the Twin Cities!! more

Unprofessional and rude stylist 1/9/2007

I heard my stylist Haley commenting to the receptionist before she approached me that she should have up-sold me; not sure whether she meant a more expensive haircut or trying to get me to color or what but it is extremely rude to make a comment like this, especially within hearing distance of a customer. Also, mid-haircut someone came up to her and whispered something. I think someone must have been waiting for her because she moved into turbo speed. Once she had the length cut off she asked if I still wanted layers even though I had told her I did. She just wanted to get done with me. Other than the rude and unprofessional stylist, the John English salon does make an attempt to be “high class” and professional; they have changing rooms and offer you coffee. Haircuts start at $30. I might go back but definitely not to Haley. more

I have had my hair cut at JE for the better part of 10 years and they are consistently amazing - my stylist in particular is extrememly personable, talented and always sends me home feeling like a million bucks. She has worked with me through all types of moods/haircuts and I trust her like a sister. Right now she's giving me blonde highlights every 8 weeks and I've never felt better. I'd tell you her name but I'd have to kill you. $150+ is to be expected as far as I'm concerned. The products are pretty expensive but worth it as well. .. more

Great salon! 9/25/2005

Located in Uptown, this is a very fun and stylish salon. I had a stylist I worked with for awhile who started at the Advanced Training academy and she always did a great job. My only complaint is that their prices rise WAY too fast! My stylist went from being at the bottom (20.00 range) to 24, then 28, then 32, then 35 and then 38! All of that happened in like a year and a half. I could no longer afford to go to her, and I knew if I found someone else the same thing would happen. I moved about a half hour away, so it was an easy transition. If you are looking to spend $35-40 on a hair cut, or you don't care if you go to the same person each time, it is a great salon with a lot of style, and would definitely be worth looking at. more

a cut/color/do for a variety of budgets with a high-end feel 8/18/2005

Jon English, a stylish upscale salon, offers excellent services for hair- whether from Jon himself, his wife, one of the many talented staff, or the apprentices. Prices from Jon or one of their knowledgeable employees can be very expensive, but an apprentice that has been working under their supervision for months can offer a good alternative for a reasonable price, if you're not looking for anything too special. The products used and sold at the salon are all the salon's own special formula and work etremely well- I own the finishing gloss and it is excellent. I have never had one of the highly expensive cuts or colors that I can't afford, but enjoyed simple trims from the apprentices for years. The only bad experience I had was when I asked for layers that ended up off, but I got a full refund. I know people whose current signature haircut was formulated by Jon's wife and they are extremely appreciative and satisfied. So, no matter how much you want to spend, Jon English offers a great place to go for a high-end feel and a great range of experienced employees. more

The Jon English Salon is one of the best in the Twin Cities. This is not your parent's Oldsmobile. The salon has a lively atmosphere with quality, funk and edge. It's hard to find quality stylist that have a sense of edge. Why look like the soccer mom if you don't want to. These stylists get it and they are talented. And oh yea, they don't change everyone week. So there is some consistency. Keep in mind though, you pay for all this atmosphere, talent and cut. For the average this may be over the top. If you care about all this, then put it on your short list. more

Jon English is the best salon in MInneapolis! 7/29/2005

I love the Jon English Salon. They have fun and funky sylists. The decor is dark and awesome. The stylists know what they are doing. The products are great, I love them! There isn't really a lot wrong with the Jon English salon. if you are willing to pay a few extra dollars for a sensational cut, I'd try here! more
