Best

The grill here is bar none, everything that comes out of that kitchen is fantastic, and alot of it is an ode the hickory and the fantastic kitchen staff. The last time I went it...

Worst

This is not a super upscale place and they ask you to take off your hat in the dining room which is stupid. I agree with the other reviewer in that the hostess was not polite but...

A great taste of Houston's in San Francisco 7/17/2006

One of the joys of being a younger sister is that I get to benefit from the food wisdom of my older sisters. While visiting the city, my sister took me to one of her go to restaurants--Houston's. Wow! Not only was the service prompt and funny, all of the food I had was fantastic. We started out with artichoke dip that was one of the best ever. I then proceeded to baby back ribs that we so tender, I almost didn't even have to chew. Absolutely wonderful. I also loved their little shoe string french fries, and cabbage coleslaw. A great place to go if you want some good grub, but not so good if you're watching the waist line. more

Houston's on the Embarcadero 3/12/2006

Okay, so it might be a chain (there are 49 around the country) and unless you live in North Beach or on Telegraph Hill it's a bit of a hike (on the Embarcadero across from Pier 31), but here here are several reasons to love this American Steakhouse: 1. They compost 2. They get lots of their food from local vendors, including their hamburger buns and rosemary bread, delivered fresh every morning from Acme Bread Co in the Ferry Building. 3. They have the BEST veggie burgers around. Even my carnivorous friends crave them. For real. Also good: the crispy, shoestring fries, grilled artichokes and tuna sashimi salad made with mango and avocado. The meat-eaters around me also recommend the french dip and the barbeque pork ribs. more

Wow! Hot food and staff! 8/23/2005

The girls of Houston's are so beautiful. Our waitress was not only hot, she was witty, and she was surrounded by other good-looking staff members. The food tastes great. The sashimi salad is light and tasty. The restaurant is famous for it's ribs, and now I know why. The service is attentive, professional, and sexy. Don't bring a date, the staff is eye candy enough! Order a martini, they are huge, strong, and served by a gorgeous bartender. You won't leave unhappy. more

  • In Short
Burnished brass and stained wood complement roughly mortared brick and the occasional plant. Amid ubiquitous earth tones, corporate types and small parties (celebrating or simply living large) occupy deep booths done up in fine upholstery and lit from above by pin spotlights. Burgers, prime rib and steaks are the specialties of the house, but the menu also includes salmon, salads, pork chops and roasted chicken.
