  • Goodwill Industries of San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin Counties is an autonomous not-for-profit social enterprise dedicated to creating solutions to poverty through workforce creation, social action and environmental stewardship. With over thirty stores and donation sites, a growing online store, and an extensive reuse and recycling operation, we help people overcoming barriers to employment move forward on their career paths, build sustainable livelihoods and transform their lives and communities. A mid-sized employer of nearly 500, we generate over 85 percent of our revenue through our businesses.

    STORES
    Generating over $18 million in revenue annually, our commercial enterprises also serve as training centers where program participants learn a range of transferable skills. Enterprises include:
    * 16 retail stores across three counties offering quality used goods at affordable prices
    * E-store selling unusual, high value items from our donations stream on eBay and Amazon.com
    * ReComputer Store selling equipment refurbished through Goodwill's computer recycling program
    * As-is Store selling donated goods by the item.

    OPERATIONS
    A focus of our commercial enterprises is value recovery - the reuse/recycling of used goods - which currently results in the diversion of over 20,000 tons of material from landfill each year, Individuals and businesses donate gently used clothes, household items and computer/electronic equipment, which we sell at our stores.

    CAREER SERVICES
    Goodwill offers training, placement and retention services designed to help individual develop a career path in growing industries. Working closely with employers, we are dedicated to helping motivated individuals overcome barriers to employment such as long-term welfare dependence, a physical or mental disability, homelessness, incarceration or limited use of English. Including a training curriculum accredited by CARF and the California Bureau of Private Post-Secondary and Vocational Education, our career services program is built on the following principles:
    * Shared Responsibility: We believe the successful completion of a Goodwill program is the shared goal and responsibility of each participant and Goodwill.
    * Career Lattice Model: We aim to help people develop the skills, resources and opportunities necessary to continually develop employment opportunities that provide a sustainable livelihood.
    * Labor Market Orientation: We re ly on employer participation and industry data to guide the content and structure of our training, placement and retention programs.
    * Tailored Programs: We partner with employers to develop workforce development programs customized to their specific needs.
