Being in Hawaii, you don't find many local places that offer such a wide variety of art supplies. Flax Art & Design offer such a great selection of art supplies at such great prices. Online or by catalog, it's much easier than fighting crowds and traffic. more

I like to go looking for art supplies here , they have everything you could ever need. They are a little pricy but there stuff is all great quality and they have a very large selection of craft supplies so I can always find what I need here and I don't have to go looking from place to place for the supplies that I need. FLAX is Great!!! more

If you are looking for creative inspiration, look no further then Flax. This is the best art supply store in the Bay Area. Their specialty paper selection is incredible. Flax seems to have everything I need. Pros: selection Cons: pricing more

Flax 11/27/2005

I honestly never went to Flax when studing art because I heard of the store being really overpriced. For the first time ever, went there when I needed to make custome invitations for my daughters birthday. I was shocked at a huuuuge selection of craft suplies and now I only go to Flax. more

Large art supply store with good selection 11/24/2005

Flax is a large, well-known art supply store somewhere in the neighborhood of Civic Center and Hayes Valley. They have a good selection of quality journals, sketchbooks, kid's art supplies, giftwrap, bags, etc. There is a small clearance section in a small separate room. Check out the messenger bags that are only about $16.95. The kid's section has some nice, large hardcover blank journals for just $4.95. more

Art materials Like you have never seen before! 10/2/2005

Flax presents a dazzling selection of fine art materials for a wide variety of applications and media. The paper selection alone is unbelievable - whether you need it to paint/draw upon, wrap up in, scrapbook on, design cards with, etc. It is motivating to wander through the aisles and find various treasures that spark one's imagination/creativity. Wonderful selection of writing implements (I am a pen freak!) and arty containers that make great gift containers along with unusual and unique greeting cards. more

Great Store 9/6/2005

Great store to get lost in. This is a brilliant store to find anything art and craft related. It has anything you can imagine you might ever need and is very well laid out. From stationary supplies to paints to mosaic tools, you name it they have it, or can get it for you. The staff are extremely helpfull. Can be a little pricey! more

Flax Art & Design 9/5/2005

This art store has all the supplies you need as an artist. They have a wide range art tools from brush to paint to canvas. Their services are great since they help me select tools for I am beginner in art. Since they are located where parking is difficult, I suggest walk there or take bus. I think this is an okay store. more

This is one of the best art stores on the planet. They have everything from painting supplies, pottery supplies to sculpting supplies. You can find anything you need here. The prices are a bit high, but it is fun to just visit and look at all of the cool stuff. more

Awesome Art & Craft Store 7/26/2005

Flax is a speciatly arts and crafts store. Their selection is amazing! It's the place to go if you are looking for any kind of art supplies--for home, for school, for work etc. I really like that they have more than just art supplies--they have a lot of great gift ideas. It's fun to go in here and browser for hours. I agree that parking could be a lot better. more

Wish there were more of them 7/22/2005

I recently moved and I have been unable to find a art supply store that matches the quality, selection and funkyness of Flax. They are conveniently located next to a really good buffet restaurant and though parking can be a pain it's worth the trip. I love there paper selection but I wish there was something to tell you whether or not it's printable. They always have some new interesting product to drool over. I even like how they break the sections. PROS: selection CONS: parking more

Supplies for any kind of artist 7/11/2005

Flax is a huge store. It has sections for every concievable art project you could possibly think of. I was working on a marble sculpture and they have rasps and chisels for just that. They have a huge paper department, lots of paints, pencils, pens, and in every brand and variety you could ever want. It isn't the cheapest art store I've ever been to, but it does have a great selection. more

Great store. And Parking! 7/3/2005

This is the best art supply store I've found in San Francisco. The selection is broad and covers most everything. If you are not exactly sure what you need the staff is usually very knowledgeble. There are always plenty of cashiers, so you're never stuck in line and there is parking, which is rare for market street. PROS: broad supply. parking. CONS: more

Three Thumbs Up 5/6/2005

Across the street from Zuni's caf, Flax Art & Design is filled with rows of Chinese calligraphy brushes, stationary in every color (including clear), modeling kits, children's toys, leather notebooks, framing materials, handmade paper, and of course paint and ink and paint and ink. It's a large warehouse that stretches out into at least three rooms. Flax's competitors Utrecht and Pearl are cheaper all round, but Flax has a very personal feeling and carries more exotic materials. more

this place is really great. i read the reviews on this page and i had to go and check this place out. it did have everything for an artists needs. the store is very nice and clean. it has so many supplies for a painter like myself. i really recommend it for the art lovers out there. more

Flax has everything you need to inspire the budding artist in your or to serve the actual artist's needs. They carry a full-range of art supply stores plus they have a really good framing department and excellent gifts. With free parking in front and behind the building, what more could you ask for (besides longer, more convenient after-work hours)? more

Wow! Wow! Wow! Honestly, this store will blow your mind. A trip to Flax is a multi-sensory shopping experience. Flax has everything an artist or artist-to-be desires. The layout and presentation of the store is fantastic. The quality and variety of the products they sell is unparalleled. Getting to Flax can be a bit tricky but they do have a parking lot right in front. more
