Great bread! 3/9/2006

We're never disappointed with Essential Bakery products. We mostly purchase this bread at the grocery store, but there is a bakery in Wallingford that has pastries and sandwiches and cakes as well. I purchased rosemary rolls for Thanksgiving, to rave reviews. I love their olive bread, the Fremont Sour, and the Columbia. Their orange and walnut breads are great, and the rosemary diamonte is killer. Move over, low carbers! more

Not so great, anymore 8/17/2005

The Essential Baking Company has gone from being over-the-top great to not so good. The service is poor -- very snobby cashiers, and the menu is increasingly restrictive. The new management in an effort to raise margins has taken all of the really great items off the menu. Sadly the brisket sandwich and other delights have been replaced by an increasingly bland array of sandwiches and soups. I’d recommend staying away from the cream based soup. I've had food poisoning from them twice! more

Champy organic bread 5/7/2004

This is a great little local spot for lunch. Plenty of bread to go around, but I prefer their salads. It's an eclectic crowd and noisy, but the combination works well. Get there either early or late for lunch if you don't want to fight for seating. more
