I ate dim sum with two co-workers today...the food was good, but I won't go back. I don't need to pay for the spacious, upscale atmosphere. The three of us paid $60 for lunch!!!!! Aye, dios mio...who do they think they are? We did not over eat. I've been eating dim sum for years, in San Francisco, in Seattle, in BC. NEVER have I had to pay $20 when there was no alcohol involved! Let's get back to the atmosphere...I'd much rather eat dim sum at Jade Garden, where it's noisy, full of Chinese people, great variety, and where they are not trying to put on airs and rip me off. Puleeeeze.

It's a hole-in-the-wall tucked between western and 1st, on Columbia - Mae Pim Thai Restaurant. At lunch time, you'd better get there well before 12:00 if you want to eat in. The take out line is always out the door! The curries are all good, and they really do a good job with sauteed anything. The green curry chicken and Mae Pim Special - yellow curry chicken with cashews, bell peppers and onions. I'm hungry!

The Wallingford Center is a great location for any business, yet the property managers cannot seem to keep them happy. There have been numerous restaurants there, and all have gone out of business. There is ample parking, so that's not it. Other business have left - the great garden store, Imagination Toys, Metropolis. Wallingford is becoming more upscale every year and can support quality retailers. I'm hoping they wake up!

We tried Market Street Grill during the 25 for $25 last week. The romaine hearts caesar was delicious, and those brown butter croutons - yum. Unfortunately, we all had the same thing, so I can only comment on that entree. A ribeye. Perfectly cooked and tender. Dessert was creme brulee for me, and it was awesome. The service could not have been better, and if I could afford it a regular prices, I'd go back!

I love City Kitchens, downtown on 4th, just south of Macy's. If you love to cook or know someone who does, you should know the value of good tools. They are not cheap -- they are good! The knowledgeable staff almost always have first-hand experience in using the pots and pans, the knives, and a lot of the kitchen tools and can help you make an informed decision. The month of September is their annual sale. I buy my cook in the family all of his kitchen gadgets in September as well as presents for folks during the year!

This store is located in Pioneer Square and it is the best greeting card store around. They must have good buyers because their selection is excellent. I always find myself laughing out loud selecting cards in there. It is definitely not your mall card store. They also carry cutesie animal books, notecards, address books. During the holidays they have ornaments. They have nice wrapping paper and ribbons and also carry a large selection of stickers.

It's Fireworks, Pioneer Square. This store has so much to look at, from furniture to S&P shakers, to jewelery, ornaments, books, lights, metal art, and more! I love the girl mobiles with kites. There is surely a gift for someone you like in there. Some are whimsical, some are beautiful, some are just plain silly. They have it all, and most of it is so colorful, its really candy for the eye!

Capitol Music, downtown Seattle is the bomb! You can find any kind of sheet music in there, and then some. They have instruments to play and some to rent also. I've purchase self-teaching books, but mostly like the sheet music books. They have fake books for jazz, blues, pop. Parking isn't the best since it's downtown, but well worth the trip.

Peet's coffee arrived in Seattle just in time. For years, there was a non-compete between that mega coffee store that friends don't let their friends frequent (!) and Peets, from California. I used to mail order from Peets until the Fremont store was built, next to PCC. Now that the Greenlake store opened, that's even better since it is closer to me. I love their coffee. They are consistent bean roasters and their business model must be awesome because they have been this way for years. And, they give you a cup of coffee on the house when you purchase your beans. Would the other store ever do that? Go Peets.
