Went to Chapy's for the first time with a group of International ladies and my experience was not great. I really don't like the bred they served at first, it was dried and taste...

Great New Orleans Style French Creole in Nashville 10/7/2006

My wife and I had decided to go to Chappys for my birthday on Sat night. The fresh baked bread was nice, so was the 4 butters, regular, strawberry, garlic, and alligator. The Fried Green Tomato appetizer was excellent. My Mardi Gras Lambchops were great, and my wifes Blackened Redfish was awesome both came with a salad. The Bread Pudding was nice though a little cinnamony. My wife had a glass of wine, I had tea. And a cup of coffe with dessert. All for $70 before tip. There was also a nice Jazz band playing. Pros: Great New Orleans French Creole Food! Not much more expensive then some generic chain. Cons: Louisians great Abita beer is available in Nashville, but not at Chappy's?? This can be easily fixed! more

Awesome Experience 10/5/2006

I'm so amazed that some of the reviews illustrated a less than wonderful time. My husband and I GREATLY enjoyed our evening meal there tonight. The atmosphere was fantastic with soothing jazz music. Our waiter was excellent and very attentive to our needs. Chappy came out and visited with us and when I asked for a dish made differently than the menu, he more than willingly offered to fix it. I had lobster and scallops and my husband had lamb chops. We both thoroughly enjoyed and savored each bite. Toppint that off was the richest and most delicious piece of homemade coconut cake. YUMMIE. We highly recommend Chappy's and will return to eat again. Unfortunately, Mississippi lost a wonderful Chef, however, Nashville has been blessed. Thank you Chappy! more

Poor service dampens an otherwise decent meal 9/28/2006

I doubt I would go back for another meal. The food itself was not bad. Fried green tomatoes were good, topped with crawfish pieces. Fresh bread with different flavored butters was a nice touch. Unfortunately the service was sub par for a restaurant in this price range. Our server seemed flustered and apologetic most of the meal. If I had been dining at TGI Friday's perhaps I would not have been so let down by the service. Many other tables seemed to be having the same service issues my table had. Can't recommend. Pros: food, decor Cons: service more

Mushy trout and puppy poo. 9/25/2006

I'm sorry. I know these guys are new, but I just can't understand the lack of customer service. I was alone at lunch and they acted surprised at this, which didn't add to my pleasure. Seated by the unopen bar, I was forced to hear the barmaid go on and on for 15 minutes about her puppy's bowel habits. Even after several dirty looks, she didn't get it. And she was talking to my waitress who was not helping me. The special, trout was smothered in sauce and soft and mushy without taste. Shoulda known what ""special"" meant. I'm from Louisiana and I didn't feel any New Orleans ambience. The original Chappy's is in Mississippi close to Mobile anyway. I couldn't wait to get outta there. Pros: warm bread and butter selection Cons: soft, mushy fish disguised in sauce more

terrible customer service 9/24/2006

FYI: They highly recommend reservations for ANY size party. We tried to eat there without reservations and even though there was no one in the waiting area and several empty tables, they told us it was recommended that we have reservations. Once we told them there were nine of us and we could wait, they acted like they didn't want us to eat there and said it would be 9:00 before they could seat us. I felt like they didn't want us to eat there because we were such a large party. They lost a big ticket that night. I would not recommend this place due to the lack of customer service. Cons: SERVICE!! more

Finally, Seafood in Nashville 9/20/2006

It was so very good! Being from south Mississippi, I used to eat at Chappy's when I was a little girl. I was very sorry for their loss, but excited when they moved to Nashville. The food was very good, the service was very warm, and even Chappy himself came and welcomed us. I was very impressed and highly suggest this to any seafood lover seeking a good meal from the gulf!!! Pros: food, music, staff Cons: none really more

Worst experience ever in Nashville 9/19/2006

One word. Horrible!!! Lousy service, lousy food, lousy management. And the owner should go back to basic customer service training. Would not recommend to my worst enemy!!! Cons: Everything more

Negative experience on several levels 9/17/2006

My assistant and I went for a dinner at 6:30 on a Friday night. The 15 minute wait was over a half hour even though the place was less than half full. When I asked why the wait I was told staggered seating was done so as 'not to overwhelm the kitchen'. Pros: good bar and jazz Cons: everything else more

Brunch a disappointment... 8/25/2006

We ate a late brunch at Chappy's and we were underwhelmed by the experience. My friend was served cold soup and very overdone eggs benedict. Despite the other reviewer's mention of ""HUGE portions,"" the overall brunch was very sparse, which (down to the tiny champagne glasses) came across as a cost-cutting measure. The gumbo was good, but some of Chappy's other creations seemed to be a bit ill-guided in choices of flavor. The bread pudding was a rubbery disappointment. My friend enjoyed the ambiance and felt the service was adequate, but I felt like the service was far below the level that I expected with Chappy's menu prices and setting. Having lived (and eaten) in New Orleans for years, I might expect too much from a ""New Orleans style"" restaurant... but I just can't recommend this place for brunch, especially with much better (non-creole) offerings in the city. more

Nice atmosphere a cover-up for rude staff! 8/20/2006

Last week I was part of a group planned to be around 10 - 15 people. As luck would have it, only about half showed up due to unseen circumstances. Everyone had been asked to show up around 8pm and the staff was aware of this yet they continued to rush us for our orders even after we told them we were going to wait about 15 more mintues to allow more of our party to show. While we were waiting, Chappy himself came to our table and made a comment about the no-shows. I had to leave shortly after that and I later found out that he came back to our table, began talking to the empty place sittings and later told the lady hosting the group not to make reservations again unless she was sure everyone was going to be there. If the place had been packed, I might have been able to understand this but there were several empty tables when I was there. Also, if you plan to drink be warned, I payed $24.00 for 2 martinis. They charged me a $2.00 opening fee per drink and both drinks were the same kind! I had thought of going back and trying their food but after learning how they treat their customers, they can forget it! Pros: Ambience Cons: Service, Parking more

All I can say is AMAZING! 8/19/2006

Though the menu is a bit pricey, the food, the portions, and the service make it worth while! The atmosphere is great for a lunch or dinner date, and the Saturday Champagne Brunch is a great time to get together with friends! The crab fingers appetizer is AMAZING and plenty for 3-4 people! While my husband enjoyed a plate full of lightly fried gulf coast shrimp, baked potato and salad (served with home-made ranch dresing and little noodle shells), I enjoyed a nice bowl of seafood gumbo. The gumbo is as authentic as it gets and wonderful with the home-made bread with smoked alligator butter that is given upon arrival (the bread also comes with regular butter, strawberry butter, and a fabulous garlic butter)! Chappy's Chocolate Cake is more than enough for 2 people, served with a cherry on top and drenched in rich, chocolate sauce, this dessert is to die for!! THE VERDICT IS AS FOLLOWS: CHAPPY'S has AMAZING food, HUGE portions, and WONDERFUL service! An absolute MUST DO! Pros: food, service, atmosphere more

Still a bit confused about brunch 8/14/2006

Brunch at Chappy's was one of the most confusing experiences I have had in quite a while. While my red flounder was AMAZING, my fiance's prime rib (a special, not always on the menu) was terrible. It was thin, overcooked, and tasted more like carne asada from a cheap Mexican restaurant. Our server, polite at first, completely switched personalities when my fiance mentioned (politely) that he was not impressed by the prime rib (it was suggested by the server). The presentation on both dishes was left much to be desired, as did the soup and the desserts. Yes, it is a champagne brunch, but don't expect a free-flowing bottle. The glasses are TINY, and after the prime rib comment, we rarely saw the server again. Pros: fabulous seafood, unique atmosphere Cons: I'm so confused by our experience, I don't even know what to put here. more

Chappy's Has No Competition in This Town! 8/5/2006

Finally, a fabulous Creole restaurant in Nashville! We loved the food, the waiter was just the best (John Michael). Believe me, you are going to love it. I was hoping for a few of my favorite Cajun dishes but I'll take the Creole!!! Convenient parking lot behind the building. It is open ALL DAY, EVERY DAY (I hate it when restaurants close in the afternoon when I'm the hungriest). Anyone that has tried to get a decent lunch on Saturday in downtown Nashville finally has an excellent option. Pros: good atmosphere, easy parking, excellent eats Cons: pricey but on par with other restaurants of this caliber more

An enjoyable brunch 7/31/2006

We were happy to try out the Chappy's Sunday Brunch after seeing the story on the news. The restauarnt is very pleasing and we had excellent service. The food was extremely good although the Brunch menu is less than informative, it's basically an abbreviated version of the dinner menu but without the sides so be aware of this when ordering. Basically if you order the trout that pretty much what you get and that was a little dissapointing. Also be aware the never ending glass of Champagne for brunch it the tiniest Champagne glass we've ever seen. All said we enjoyed it and shall return. more
