Went to Chapy's for the first time with a group of International ladies and my experience was not great. I really don't like the bred they served at first, it was dried and taste...

Great place...Great food 2/6/2010

My husband and I went there for the first time a few months back. The atmosphere was great and relaxing. The service was excellent. And the food was wonderful. We enjoyed our night so much, we took our 3 kids. They LOVED IT!!! They enjoyed the food and atmosphere so much. They said that it felt like they were somewhere other than Nashville....like they were in a movie. The music was fun, me and our daughter danced before we left. He also has a cooking class every so often. Our kids enjoyed the food so much, that they want to take the class a family event. It will definetly be worth your time and money to visit Chappy's and expierence it all for yourself! Enjoy!!! Pros: everything Cons: a bit pricy but well worth it more

Great New Orleans Style and Feel 1/13/2010

We were in town for a conference, and drove past this small restaurant every day. The last day we were in town, we stopped in for dinner. The experience was just phenomenal. We were greeted by our server, who gave great suggestions for authentic new-orleans style food/appetizer/beer/and dessert. Each of us had different dishes, all of which were amazing. It was nice to have the chef come out and personally check with us to make sure everything was as we expected. We were a little under dressed for the occasion, but I was glad that it didn't seem to bother anyone. If the owners read this, I wanted you to know us yanks will definitely be visiting Chappy's on Church whenever we return to Nashville. Pros: Great Food, Great Staff, Great Atmosphere Cons: Little pricy, but worth it. more

Excellent place for anytime 11/30/2009

After reading the other reviews, we decided to give it a try anyway. After our experience, I think everyone on Citysearch is an absolute idiot!!! This place was the best. Yes, it's kinda pricey, yet it was so worth it. I'm thinking everyone that has complained about it needs to stick to Applebees and O'Charley's, because this place is heads above those places. Ya'll are all haters that just clearly want something for free. Food was awesome, service was the best, Chappy a delight, and his wife was fantastic! Definately where our family is going to go for every night out and take all of our out of town guests! Pros: Food, Service, Southern Hospitality at its best more

THIS PLACE IS RACIST!!!!! 11/23/2009

I have never FELT so horrible after leaving a Resturant! The server SUSAN disposition was so deplorable, that IM CALLING the better business, writing a letter to CHAPPY myself, and I'm THINKING OF PROTESTING! My husband an I waited 20 min or more for our soup, never recieved a salad and, and we had the WORST person in the world to service us. We asked for fresh Bread, she said that would be an extra $2.00, an they have never charged me extra before, yet my Husband noticed on our ticket it said we order A NEGRO SPLIT! Now I payed it no mind, but he said excuse can you explain our drink. no real explaination so we played an left, as we were leave. the Manger said, sometime you have to find other places to go. WELL THAT DID FOR ME AND MY HUSBAND. WE WERE OUT DONE!! I AM LOYAL BECAUSE I ALSO OWN A SMALL BUS, AN THIS SERVICE WAS DEPLORABLE. I AM EXTREMLY SORRY FOR ALL THE PEOPLE I HAVE SENT OVER 2 CHAPPY'S. AS THE BIBLE SAYS NEVER STAY WHERE YOU ARE NOT WELCOME! PLACE NEEDS A ZERO!!!! Pros: NONE!!!!! Cons: to much to explain more

Replace the H with an R in the name! 11/16/2009

We went with a small group after my mothers funeral. After being seated, it took 20 minutes to be greeted and place drink orders, our food took another 25 minutes, and the orders were wrong. Another 20 minutes to get orders right, and overall nothing we ate was good.Since our waitress was incapable of giving any kind of decent service, I tried to get the host to address the problems we were having. His response was the rudest thing I've ever heard in 50 years of eating out, including 12 years I worked in the restaurant biz, both corporate and private. DON""T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY! Cons: LOUSY SERVICE, RUDE STAFF, TERRIBLE FOOD more

Mother's Day Brunch 5/10/2009

My 84 year old mother wanted to go to Chappy?s for their Mother?s Day brunch. My wife made 11:00 am reservations for the brunch about a month out. She was told that it was $29.95 per person including a glass of champagne. When we arrived at the restaurant, the champagne glasses were on a tray close to the bar. I overheard someone from around the bar to tell the wait staff that they were not serving brunch today and if anyone did not like it, they could go to Burger King. Once seated, we informed our waitress that we had made reservations for their brunch. She very politely let us know that Chappy had decided that morning not to offer brunch today and they would only be serving from their dinner menu. We asked to speak with a manager and Chappy himself came to our table. He informed us that we had been told in error that they were offering a brunch today and that he could not offer special menus just for us. He was both arrogant and condescending. We finally made a selection much too heavy for that time of day. In the course of our meal, our waitress let us know that we were not the only ones unhappy about the brunch being cancelled. Every table she had served that morning had the same complaint. She was the only saving grace about our whole experience at Chappy?s. I fully believe that Chappy knew exactly what he was doing this morning by cancelling the brunch. He knew that it would be impossible to get reservations anywhere else at this late time and he could force the customers to order from the more expensive dinner menu. There are many fine restaurants in the Nashville area. The food was good, but the attitude was the worst I?ve ever experienced. I will never go back!!! Pros: not many Cons: Chappy is rude and arrogant more

my daughters 18th birthday 4/12/2009

waitress didnot get any of the orders right, we did not get the food we ordered. Quite strange, when we would be talking to waitress she didnot pay attention ,just kept walking around table. Our drinks were not refilled, unless we could track her down then it took forever. another waiter dropped a tray of food behind us ,swore when he did, an food splattered on my daughters new dress. needless to say ,we just paid an left very disappointed,we had been looking forward to this since we are from La. Not good. Pros: food tasted ok,, Cons: service was a terrible experience,, more

Major let down. 1/11/2009

Being from Louisiana I was excited to finally get to try Chappy's. Had seen commercials and was ready for some good cajun food. We went at lunch time on a Thurs. in between visits to the hospital. The hostest sat us in the middle of the dining room with the comment, ""hope you are hungry."" So we waited and waited and waited for a server. The same 3 servers passed us multiple times but all 3 refused to acknowledge us. After waiting 10 mins., I asked the bread guy for a server. Of course, it was one of the 3 that had passed us many times. Instead of an apology she just took our drink orders. The lunch menu was very disappointing. The only authentic choice was a bowl of seafood gumbo. When the waitress returned she mentioned the special of crawfish etoufee. That should not be a special, that should be a standard. I ordered the etoufee and my husband went for the gumbo. Mine came with a salad. What a joke..... the salad was served on a saucer. It contained exactly 4 pieces of lettuce, 1 pickeled cucumber, 3 croutons, a pile of shredded carrots and some cold mini pasta shells. Didn't have to worry about filling up on it. The food came out 12 mins later (not sure what took so long). Forget getting drink refills, that took forever as well. The food looked good but was extremely bland. I never add salt, but I could not get enough in the bowl. There was no spice. I was going to ask for some hot sauce, but the waitress didn't return until she was ready to give us the check. We paid the $35 lunch bill and left. Definitely was not representative of good cajun food or good Louisiana hospitality. Chappys on Church was a major disappointment. Pros: Nice atmosphere Cons: Poor service, limited menu, not authentic cajun cooking. more

Good, but not Great 1/10/2009

We went to Chappy's on New Year's Eve the service was good and the food was good, but nothing was great. I had the 6 oz. Fillet Mignon, it was okay but was definately not the best. A friend of mine got the grouper and she said it was very good. The best part of the night for me were the drinks. Good martinis and wine. I would recommend going for the drinks but not the food. Pros: Good atmosphere, martinis, wine, private dining available Cons: average food, price to high for the quality more

Disappointing Anniversary Dinner 11/23/2008

On Saturday 11/22/08, I took my wife for an anniversary dinner at Chappy's on Church in Nashville. We had both been impressed by the TV ads and were really excited about sitting down to some real New Orleans food. The first impression was good. The bread with the different spreads was excellent. That is where the excellent ended and the disappointment began. Our food was so ordinary and not even well cooked. My wife's tuna stake was over cooked and dry beyond belief. My salmon was bland and no where near as good as theBayou Salmon dish I had at O'Charles just a week before. The bread pudding was obviously not homemade. It was dry as dust and we're talking about bread pudding here. Finally, my wife ordered a glass of wine and it was good. Her second glass was obviously not from the same line and was aweful. The bill was near $80 just for two. O'Charlies, Red Lobster, Appleby's, or Ruby Tuesday's would have been better and cost half. We don't mind paying extra for a good meal, but this one was a rip. Avoid the let down and stay away from Chappy's. Pros: Good bread Cons: Everything else was a rip more

Food great...service not up to par 10/28/2008

Food good. Ate at Chappy's when it was still on the coast of MS. If you want ""real"", fresh, New Orleans food go to Chappy's. Considering price and the fact it was a Sunday evening, and there were very few parties in the restaurant, service could have been better. Waiter and staff very friendly but he forgot to take our order when he brought the appetizer. Had to get someones' attention to get order taken. Took longer to get salad after the appetizer because of the order. Then he forgot to bring more butter when requested. Perhaps others with different waiters had better service but for the price, I expected better. Would definitely go again and take guests because the food was good. Appetizer (oysters) was huge. Entree portions average. Guess we are spoiled because we lived in New Orleans a long time. Pros: Good food. Seafood fresh, not frozen Cons: For the price, food should have been great, not average. more

great food and service 10/18/2008

IWe went to Chappy's for the first time last week. I had heard good and mediocre reviews. All I can say is that the food we had was fantastic. The oyster trio was excellent. The blackened prime rib was perfectly prepared and the veal was excellent. Yes it was expensive. But it ws so good that it didn't matter. The Chef came by our table to meet us which was a nice touch. The service was excellent. I was also impressed that the band was able to play at a low enough level to allow concersation. We had a great time. Pros: great ambiance with live music Cons: needs more traditionally cajun food on the menu more

Don't waste your time or $$$ 8/27/2008

As a 20+ year experienced chef born & raised in New Orleans, I have cooked at some of the finest restaurants in the Gulf South including Emeril's: Cuvee & Delmonico and am currently managing a popular restaurant on the MS Gulf Coast. I was disappointed not only in the quality of food, but found the cost outrageous. Needless to say, when we received our bill listing $30 for a bowl of crawfish etoufee we suspected there was an error in our billing! Upon questioning our bill, we received a rude response detailing that the crawfish came from Louisiana at $12 per lb. In 20+ years experience in the LA area restaurant industry, fine dining restaurants have never purchased local crawfish for convenience and cost effectiveness and I find it hard to believe Chappy did either (especially in TN!). I introduced myself as a chef from the area that he was also from, but his short reply said all I needed to know... yes, the perfect chef; rude and arrogant. In summary, don't waste your time or money. There is a lot of quality food at better prices throughout the city... and when in Nashville, do as the locals do and enjoy some good BBQ! Pros: Good beer selection Cons: High prices, low quality more

Expensive disappointment 8/25/2008

Call brand liquor price 2 x well price. Atmosphere and service very good. Food mediocre at best. The shrimp in the gumbo was very tasty but the gumbo lacked consistency and flavor. Needed spicing up and some rice and okra (which is what gumbo means in cajun). Swordfish was so dry and thin it was barely edible and the sauces on the swordfish and the veal were almost non-existent and sort of melted into the plates. House dressing was great but salad was so soaked with it, it was overwhelmed. Having traveled to New Orleans often in the past, I had high expectations for some true cajun treats but this place fell way short. Doesn't live up to its hype or its prices. Too many great restaurants in Nashville to waste another trip here. You've been forewarned - don't blame me, thank me. Pros: Staff was friendly and prompt, atmosphere enjoyable. Cons: Food quality poor and food overpriced as a result. more

Flavorful 8/19/2008

I am from New Orleans and have lived there for 27 years and visit NO frequently.... I'm a new resident in Nashville. My experience was positive and I will eat at Chappy's as often as I possible can. In a nut shell...the service was excellent, the drinks were of great quality ( well worth the price we paid for our drinks...yummy) , as was the entertainment. The food was, well shall I say, there was a party in my mouth. Excellent food, service, drinks, and jazz music while we waited for our table. I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I highly recommend eating at Chappy's Restaurant. Happy eating, Rebecca T. W. Pros: Food, high quality drinks, entertainment, decor, great bar area, private rooms (named after parades) Cons: tables need a candle for more of an ambiance...husband thought the tables and bar tables were a little unorganized.. more

Unpalatable food, rude chef, bad experience!!! 8/19/2008

We visited for a birthday party and were treated very rudely. Our birthday girl's quail dinner was undercooked and red in the center, each drink cost upwards of 12 dollars, and we were charged for drinks we didn't even order that were brought to our table! This oversight was mentioned at least 5 times by our guests before the bill was corrected. The owner made us all feel bad for not having more people in our party and served up a very soggy and disgusting ""bread pudding"" as a birthday gift. Nobody in our group of 6 was impressed with their food - all of us were disappointed that we were charged so much for low quality offerings. The owner was outwardly rude to our birthday girl and guests on numerous occasions and had no customer service skills. We will never be returning. And the ""gator"" butter tastes really gamey. Beware. Pros: nice ambience Cons: food, management, service more

Bland and boring...just like Tennessee Football! 7/11/2008

After reading these reviews it obvious that people do not know the difference between New Orleans/Creole food and Cajun/Louisiana food. I am from Louisiana, so I was not expecting much and I was right. You NEVER get the real thing unless you eat it down there. It is kind of like comparing LSU football to Tennessee football...one is flavorfull and GREAT and one is bland and boring. Tennessee football and food(even if it is supposed to be New Orleans food) is bland and boring. You get my point! Honestly I laughed and made fun the whole evening. Red Lobster is better than mess. The best seafood I have had in the Nashville area is Steamboat Bill's on Old Hickory Lake in Hendersonville...crawfish is fair. Pros: parking Cons: complete mockery of New Orleans food! more

Exceptional food, service and music 6/7/2008

My husband and I are residents of the Gulf Coast. My husband frequented the Mississippi Gulf Coast restaurant that Chappy owned and operated. We enjoyed it so much that my father-in-law gave us an autographed copy of Chappy?s cookbook for a birthday. When our niece graduated from high school this year in western Tennessee, we drove across the state just to enjoy a dinner at Chappys. Pros: food, service, atmosphere Cons: none. more

What do I have to order to get good service here? 4/1/2008

I dined at Chappys this past weekend (3.29.08) and although I am a fan of Chappy and his food, I want to know what I have to order to get some decent service in there. After sitting at our table for nearly 15 minutes, I decided to make a move and mention to his wife Starr, lead hostess that evening, if perhpas they had forgotten to tell the staff we had been seated, because we had not been greated and had been there hearly 15 minutes. After sloughing me off onto another hostess without even smiling, I returned to my seat for another 10 minutes before the second hostess could get a server to come wait on my boyfriend and I. Needless to say this set the tone for the entire meal, slow and neglected. We had to ask Chappy to get our salads while he was greeting those in the restaurant. We tried to enjoy our meal anyways, ordering a bottle of wine, and appetizer, and two entrees. And after expressing our dissatisfaction to Chappy on his third visit to our table (in which he had to run our check b/c we couldn't find our server again) he didn't even apologize or offer to ""correct"" anything on the bill. Not only could Chappy seem to care less about a menial $120.00 two-top, but when walking out of the restaurant we again confronted Starr, his wife, about the bad service we had recieved after complaining several times. She begrudgingly replied that ""I'll have to work on that."" Yes, Starr you will. Chappys might serve great food, but without great service, I might as well be at O'Charley's. more

Best Martinis Ever 3/31/2008

We went to Chappys for a 40th B-Day party, and it was absolutely amazing. I had the soft shell crab louie and i have never tasted such great crab very flavorful. The Martinis are a little pricey but very strong and worth the money, the bartenders were great as we waited very amusing. overall chappys is wonderful and i will definately be going back. Pros: Food and Drinks more
