Worst

Went to Chapy's for the first time with a group of International ladies and my experience was not great. I really don't like the bred they served at first, it was dried and taste...

Where was the crawfish? 3/30/2008

...And where was the Cayenne pepper? I wanted spicy flavorful food. I had expected Cajun cuisine. I wanted Crawfish Etouffee, Red beans and rice, sweet potatoes, and maybe even alligator. Pros: Ambience Cons: Food more

Food misses the mark 3/19/2008

Positives-parking (valet, free self park in back of restaurant), fantastic live music, atmosphere and ambiance is wonderful, the artwork featured in the restaurant is gorgeous and it's for sale, friendly and courteous staff, good bar drinks(I had burbon & coke for $6) Chappy always stops by every table to say hello (what a special touch that the chef comes by to say hello personally and chat)! Negatives:My steak (6 oz filet) was improperly cooked - the server put the order in wrong. Stuffed potato was cold. When my new filet arrived, stuffed potato was hot. But I have to say, I've tasted better stuffed potatoes made at home. Although the filet tasted good I've had better filets at Longhorn and Outback. I'm not expecting it to be like a filet from Ruth's Chris, but I do expect it to be at least as good as Outback or Longhorn. The salad was odd, not appetizing to me - pickled cucumber, bland pasta shells, forgetable lettuce. My dinner companion ordered the house red. They charged him $16 per glass!!! There are other wines on their menu by the glass between $5 and $12. Everyone knows that when someone orders the HOUSE wine in a restaurant it is not expected to cost MORE than other wines by the glass on their wine list. This was a complete and total rip off in my opinion. There are so many great things about the restaurant, to me, the food should be a homerun every time, every item. Pros: Live music, Ambiance Cons: Mediocre food more

Absolutely wonderful! 3/10/2008

We arrived for 730 dinner reservations as the Saturday night ""rush"" appeared to be ending. Everything from the hostess's greeting to the warm and romantic New Orleans ambiance was wonderful! Jonathan and the rest of the wait staff provided excellent service throughout our meal. The food was absolutely divine as we sampled the fresh bread with gourmet butters (The smoked aligator and the unique garlic were our favorities.) and feasted on one of the eight nightly specials (seasoned and seared Mahi Mahi served on a bed of Jambalya rice with an interesting array of sauces on the plate) and one of the menu's Bayou Specialties (Crab Louie - a Creole favorite for those unfamilar with the cuisine). When ordering your salad, be sure to try the Cajun vinegrette, suprisingly creamy with a definite kick. We were also pleasantly surprised to be able to enjoy the Blues/Jazz trio throughout the evening. From the live music to the warm and softly elegant decor and the delicious food, everything was absolutely wonderful and we felt like we were once again in our beloved French Quarter! Chappy's has become one of our new favorite restaurants!! Pros: Great atmosphere, wonderful food and music more

Save your money and pass on Chappy's 2/8/2008

I was a little hesitant to try Chappy's after reading some of the reviews, but one of my favorite talk radio hosts highly recommends it, so I gave it a try. Our family was having a special night out and taking our son to a play. We visited Chappy's hoping to have a memorable meal to make the day even more special. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. Pros: The bread and flavored butters Cons: The cost, the lack of flavor, the portion sizes, cold unfriendly atmosphere more

Wonderful!! Wonderful!! Wonderful!!! 11/19/2007

Mixed comments 11/6/2007

We only had time for a quick lunch last week & I had heard of it from the Scene's reviewer. Also, after reading the majority of posts, there is a seeming disparity of views. The food looked & tasted great but was simply overpriced. The server was as nice as could be, but she was just too overwhelmed with other customers. I would suggest beefing up presonnel for rush hours at least. So our 1st impression is on the negative side b/c of the listed reasons, & beacuse of the overall review we gave. Food:good, prices: way high, service: good for who was there, but not good b/c of too limited time available for us, so we ran out of time & couldn't even try dessert. parking: PLEASE!, more

Giving Creole a bad name, and taste! 10/17/2007

If you want to know what bland, tasteless Creole food taste like then visit Chappy?s. Otherwise don't go! My trout ""signature dish"" was brought out luke warm and tough as the bottom of a Chuck Taylor basketball shoe, with celery soup on it. I was excited to try Chappy?s since I love NOLA, and visit at least once a year to eat and hear music. I would not visit Chappy?s again in a lifetime! When our waitress ""Sparkle"" came to deliver the check she said "" was it not good"" I said no it was tough and cold "" well then you want to take it home""? Come on Chappy get some experienced professional wait staff, and not people you find off the street. I would suggest the same with your Seafood! Pros: location Cons: not enough room to write here more

It's all good 10/15/2007

I went to Chappy's for lunch along with 5 of my coworkers. Before going I had heard good & bad things, and after reading some reviews, was really prepared for a long lunch with slow service and maybe a little rudeness thrown in, for which I would also pay a pretty penny. But since I was with a group, I decided we would all find out for ourselves and we would have a good time anyway. Let me just say how pleasantly surprised we all were. It was a totally positive experience -- absolutely no negatives as far as I'm concerned -- and I can be pretty critical. We arrived about 11:45 on a Monday, after making reservations, and we were seated immediately. Our waitress was Sparkle and she was a delight, very friendly and helpful. We had the fried green tomatoes as an appetizer -- delicious! A loaf of bread with 4 flavored butters was sampled by all and....well you can't go wrong with bread and butter. A salad came with each meal, and the presentation was great as was the homemade dressing. Every one enjoyed their meal, around the table were grilled chicken, fried grouper, trout almondine, fried shrimp, and ""the special"". Chappy came over and welcomed us and had quite the personality. We had to be polite and order desert, so we sample 3 between the 6 of us: Chocolate Cake, Bread Pudding, and Peach Cake -- all homemade of course. It was hard to decide which was best, they were all fabulous and worth every calorie! We had a great experience, with great food and even great service. We were thinking this would be a good place for a company gathering, and they do have separate rooms for large groups. Our bill was under $20 for each of us, which was reasonable considering all we had. I mean we knew we were not in a diner when we walked in and saw the exquisite and unique decor with the white table cloths on the tables. Most entrees were in the $10-$12 range for lunch. I am glad I didn't rely on the negative reviews because I would have missed a good time! Pros: Food & Atmosphere more

Great food but so, so service and a bit pricey 10/10/2007

NOTE: Would be 3 1/2 Stars if the ratings would let me.... Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Live Jazz Cons: So, So Service, A bit pricey more

Only once 10/5/2007

Gosh this place was a disappointment. I was really looking forward to going to Chappy's hoping for some great seafood. I am from south Florida and grew up right on the water. Fresh seafood was a way of life for me. I was very excited when I kept hearing radio ads about how great the seafood was at Chappy's. Finally, I thought. Well, it was a let down. It wasn?t horrible, but it wasn?t as some people have touted. Not to mention I was in there for dinner on a slow evening and it took me almost two hours for dinner. I was so looking forward to good seafood, but I don't have time to spend sitting in there for overpriced mediocre food. Pros: Music Cons: Taste of food, price too high, atmosphere, service more

Seafood 9/18/2007

Tried several of the dishes on the lunch menu and was pleased. Great atmosphere! The homemade bread with the selection of spreads are tasty! The lunch crowd was great around 1pm. The service was nice! Pros: Service and atmosphere more

Chappy Is Trying, But... 9/14/2007

I stopped by with a friend for a late dinner around 7:45 pm on Tuesday evening. I was really excited about trying Chappy?s. It looks very upscale from the outside, but when I walked in I sort of felt like I was walking into a cafeteria. The music was the best part of the evening. It was great. The food took a little too long getting to our table. I walked in about 7:45 and walked out at almost 10 and we didn't even have dessert. Honestly, the price is way too high for the atmosphere, food taste/presentation, portion size, and wait staff. The wait staff seemed very in experienced. $52 later, I won?t be dining at Chappy?s again. Pros: The music was great! Cons: Too expensive, taste not good enough to warrant price, 2 hours for dining more

thoroughly enjoyed the dining experience 9/11/2007

Enjoyed our dining experience at Chappy's last evening. Can't understand the critics, our evening was an exceptional night. Food quality was great, service was average, portions fine, decor was very nicely done, music ws awesome. This restaurant is a keeper, would return in a heartbeat. Pros: my tuna dish was awesome. Cons: servcie could be bettter, main course was brought out to soon more

a little bit of home in Nashville 9/2/2007

I grew up going to Chappy's Sunday brunch in Long Beach MS. When he came to Nashville, we had to check it out. I'll be honest, Chappy's on the Coast was hit-or-miss for the last 10 years and for the last 5 mostly miss. Unfortunately, the high prices make most diners unforgiving when the ambiance or service lack. I always think Chappy's tasty, and enjoyed the brunch very much. Chappy has made basically the same menu for decades, resulting in consistent good flavor with no surprises. I think this makes it tougher for Chappy coming into the Nashville market as a new restaurant. Instead of thinking 'new' think of a restaurant that's been serving the same clients for years in a new location. Pros: Unique to Nashville dishes reflecting the Ms Gulf Coast tradition Cons: Pricey more

Not what it's cracked up to be 8/27/2007

Had lunch there with an old friend. We wanted a place that was quiet with good atmosphere, food, service, and wine. I had been watching the Chappy's TV ads and thought it was worth a try. We arrived soon after the restaurant opened at 11:00 a.m. on a weekday. Seating was immediate and a waiter arrived at our table reasonably quickly. However, after that, it was a good thing that we weren't in a hurry. The service began to degrade and continued to do so the longer we were there. There appeared to be only 2 members of the wait staff handling the entire restuarant. Chappy made an appearance but never really got close to our table. Otherwise, I would have told him that there was no excuse for such poor service when there was such a small number of diners. The food was good but nowhere near the class of food at restaurants I have visited in New Orleans. Both the food and the wine were somewhat over priced. My friend and I had two appetizers, a main course, and 2 glasses of wine. The total bill with tips was $70.00. That is a bit high for lunch. I don't predict a long run for Chappy unless he improves the service and realizes that most people don't have 2 hours for lunch on a business day. From what I've read, I don't really have the time, patience, or money to visit on a Saturday night. Pros: Nice atmosphere Cons: Poor service, far from outstanding food, overpriced more

Horrible Customer Service, Long Wait at Table, Great Menu and Food 8/26/2007

We were a party of 4, with reservations, for a 7:30 Saturday night dinner. We found Chappy's offers a wonderful menu, a comfortable casual environment and very enjoyable live entertainment. The food, once it arrives after a very very long wait, is excellent. more

GREAT Food! 8/22/2007

I have to disagree with some of the other user's comments about the food at Chappy's. They either have never had real cajun/creole food, or they have poor palates! The food at Chappy's is AMAZING. Everyting I have had has been done just perfectly. That being said, the food is slightly overpriced. The service is also lacking - very slow, and slightly rude. Lastly, it is always so cold in there that I have to bring a jacket. I will definitely go back, however, because of the food. Just hoping that Chappy comes to the realization that his staff is bad - and hires some new people! Pros: Food, Atmosphere, Location Cons: Service, Price more

Best fish we've had in a long time 7/9/2007

Despite all of the negative reviews of this place, we decided to try it out for some fish Saturday night, July 7, 2007. Once we got past the rude host we were seated quickly -- the place was full but not crowded, there were a number of groups with more than 6 in their party. we were greeted promptly by our server who managed things very well for us--we liked her recommedations. I can see where some of then negative comments may have come from in other postings but my wife and I each had a wonderful piece of fish. I had the red snapper grilled as recommended - it was fresh and well prepared. the seasoning was just enouhg to flavor but not overwelm. my wife had the special, grouper and she loved it. here only negative comment was that the fish was fine by itself and the shrimp and crab topping were not needed. we went with the server's recommendation on the coconut cake as her favorite - it was great and more than enough for two people to share with the nice coffee that we had. the wine may have been overpriced but it's the same everywhere - $10 a glass for a $20 bottle at the liquor store. Pros: fresh fish, valet parking, quick seating Cons: host more

Avoid at all costs 7/9/2007

I love Creole and Cajun food. I am something of a snob about it, yes. Pros: music Cons: everything else more
