Best

You pay for what you get,had a great time !!Great food and the service was good !!

Worst

Went to Chapy's for the first time with a group of International ladies and my experience was not great. I really don't like the bred they served at first, it was dried and taste...

And I was sooooo excited...... 6/7/2007

I have to agree with the other comments. The food is bland, tasteless and over priced. I lived in the deep south for a few years, and love that truly spicy new orleans cooking! This is a poor substitute. The staff was inexperienced and Chappy is just down right rude. To top it off, they dont even have Abita Beer! Nothing is more Louisiana than Abita Beer. I wont go back. more

Won't be around much longer 4/24/2007

There?s a reason why this place is one letter away from ?Crappy?s?. I?ve now had lunch and dinner at this establishment and will definitely not be making a 3rd visit. From the tacky decor to the uninspired food to the awkward service, this place just totally misses the mark. I?m sure Chappy really wants to provide a 5-star experience, but he?s failing so miserably that it simply becomes comical. more

IT's NAME SHOULD BE CRAPPY'S 4/14/2007

that place is over priced, the owner and staff are rude as sandpaper. Pros: LOCATION, PARKING Cons: RUDENESS, BAD FOOD, TASTELESS DESSERTS more

My Favorite Restaurant in Nashville 3/2/2007

I have been to Chappy's 7 or 8 times, I lose count. The matre'd calls me a regular when I walk in. I have always had speedy service and great food. Been to brunch 3 or 4 times and have to stop the wait staff from pouring the champagne because I have to drive. I used to eat at Chappy's back home on the coast before Katrina. Chappy's was one of my favorite places to eat back home and continues to be now that it is in Nashville. The food is just as good as it was on the coast. I highly recommend Chappy's to get that Mississippi Coastal/New Orleans cuisine experience that I grew up loving. I would eat at Chappy's every week if I could. Ahh that gumbo, nothing else like it. Pros: Huge servings Cons: No shrimp po-boys, they have shrimp boats instead on the lunch menu more

Good bread but that's it--Don't waste your money or time like we did...... 2/23/2007

Went to Chappy's on Church with my husband on Saturday Feb10th to celebrate and early Valentines Day and was VERY DISAPPOINTED with the entire experience. We decided to go here because all of the hype but should have listened to these reviews on here instead. Let me make this CLEAR we don't get out much anymore since our twins have been born so we usually enjoy a trip to Krystal's.We had made reservations for 8:30, when we arrived we were told that we would be ready to be seated in just a few minutes. The Matre'd did not have a very outgoing attitude I have had much better host/hostess at a much cheaper eatery. After 2 couples had been seated that did not have reservations that came in after us, and several other parties that had padded the matred's hand.(not sure if they had reservations or not.We FINALLY got a table at 9:00. our waitress had the personality of a candle which we had on the table but was not lit so It was very hard to read the menu since it is very dark in there. We ordered drinks which she brought very promptly then we had to wait a rather long time until we saw her again to order our food. My husband had Trout and I ordered a 6oz filet. they brought bread while we were waiting on our salads it was fantastic the butter they bring is great-smoked,garlic,regular and Strawberry)The salads are really weird but they were OK..then our food came My steak was OK but I have had much better at Logan's or somewhere for 1/2 the price. My husband did enjoy his Trout because it is hard to find around Nashville. But the potatoes they served were like warmed over twice baked potatoes You get out of the frozen section at the grocery. For the price we should have had a dinner that was out of this world but it was not really that great and i think we should have just went to Ruth Chris, Jimmy Kelly's or The Palm or even the Stockyard the money would have been the same but i am sure we would have had a better experience. I am telling you SAVE YOU MONEY!IT IS NOT GOOD! Pros: Great Bread and butter. Cons: Gross Food,Very Dark, Poor service and Reservations don't help & very $$ more

Just average yet overpriced 2/13/2007

My husband and I just got back from Chappy's. We were seated promptly, and the atmosphere and music were nice. The restaurant was not full by any means. Still, service was very slow, which may explain why my broiled scallops were lukewarm and tough. Hubby enjoyed his oyster appetizer and Trout Almandine. The desserts were average. We would not recommend it because of slow service and the prices are ridiculous for the quality of the food. Pros: nice ambience Cons: way overpriced more

GREAT seafood 2/6/2007

Visited Chappy's on a Tuesday night with a work colleague while visiting Nashville on business travel. Prompt service, FANTASTIC seafood with a large number of creole and New Orleans creations on the menu. Chappy's was a welcome alternative to chain restaurants while traveling for work. waitstaff was a bit young and inexperienced, but competent. Chappy stopped by and spent time answering questions about his journey from the gulf coast to nashville. It was a pleasure to support an independent business rebuilding following hurricane katrina. Chappy's has soul and is worth your patronage. Do not be scared away by the reviews you see here. more

Great food, service, and atmosphere! 2/5/2007

I'm puzzled by the negative reviews as I went to Chappy's with a group and was met with excellent service, terrific food, and an atmosphere unrivaled in the Nashville area. The food--from appetizer to salad to entree to dessert--was amazing. I will definitely return. Reservations are probably a good idea, and the private alcoves are GREAT for a small group. Pros: Service, Food, ""Something different"" in the Nashville restaurant scene, GREAT dessert more

beware of spoiled food 2/3/2007

My wife and I were surprised to see that chappy's had moved to nashville. We had dined at chappy's when it was in mississippi while on vacation there about 7 years ago. We had a bad experience there and swore we would never go back again. So when we ran across the new chappy's in nashville, we were surprised. We decided to give Chappy a second chance, being that it was a new restaurant in a new city. Well was that a mistake. The staff was uncaring and unclean. Then server was terrible. But that wasn't the worst part of it. The food was not hot, and after a minute or so, I started to smell an odor coming from my fried shrimp. I asked the server if he could smell it , he said it did smell, and laughed about it. I got sick to my stomach soon after. The server came back and told that Chappy said it was fine and I should eat it anyway. I know shrimp. I have eaten shrimp all my life, and this didnt smell right. It doesnt matter if Chappy's was in Mississippi or Nashville, it was awful, and I got sick to my stomach, what a mistake to go back again to this restaurant, BEWARE!!! Pros: Nice music, that's it Cons: You name it more

What's all the bad press about? 1/21/2007

My fiancee and I almost didn't go to dinner here because of the reviews we read on City Search. Fortunately we decided to go and see for ourselves. We arrived at 4 on Saturday and were seated promptly. Our waitress (Jordan) was delightful and the service was prompt and efficient. We do agree that it is best to call ahead and get a reservation as is the case with most high end establishments. We each had a tea, appetizers and split a seafood platter topped off with a single dessert and two coffees for under $50. It was plenty to satisfy us both. And the quality of the food was excellent. We plan to go again soon and when we do we will try one of the private dinning areas after 6:30 so we can enjoy the Jazz. It just goes to show one that sometimes it is best to check things out for yourself before passing judgement on it. Pros: Prompt service good food more

management seems uninterested in their guests 1/17/2007

Despite the dismal reviews a friend & I dined at Chappy?s last night. Our advice- don?t bother. The food was just OK and the prices high. I arrived 15 minutes after opening. There were very few people there. I went to the bar and ordered a beer. As the bartender was getting it for me, a lady manager type person yelled to him to answer the phone. Instead of taking care of a paying customer in front of him, he answered the phone and made me wait. I would have preferred he given me the beer and then answered the phone. My friend arrived and we approached the host stand. The host was very busy complaining to one of his coworkers about something while we stood there and waited for his conversation to end. Since the restaurant was empty, we were seated right away. We saw Chappy on the way to our table. I told him I was torn between ordering shrimp or steak and asked for his suggestion. He told me he didn?t know and that I should order both. Here the chef and owner had a chance to really talk up his food and he just waved me off. I ordered the Grilled Barbecue Spice Shrimp but was brought the Chappy?s Sauteed Shrimp. Being engrossed in sparkling conversation I had already eaten half of it before I realized the mistake. The waiter did not write our order down so by the time he got to the kitchen I guess he just ordered me any ole shrimp dish. It was good but it wasn?t $18.95 good. It was about $11.95 good. Be prepared for LOTS of garlic with this dish. My friend had the World-Famous Trout Long Beach which she enjoyed. Overall the decor and bathrooms are nice. There was a man playing acoustic guitar in the bar which was also nice. Our waiter was friendly but didn?t get the order right. The management seems uninterested in their guests. There are many great restaurants in Nashville. This is not one of them. Pros: Lot Parking, nice decor, nice bathrooms, beer prices reasonable Cons: management seems uninterested, food average and overpriced more

Very Very Disappointing Experience!! 12/9/2006

For starters, they need more than one valet attendant on a Saturday night.. On to the decor. ""Think movie cinema "", you know it looked staged, the carpet and the wall paint comes to mind, o.k. cheap. The bathrooms were nice. Maybe we can move the tables in there. Don't go with a large party. The servers were young and inexperienced. One of them even grab a loaf of bread with his bare hands, after it almost fell off the saucer. We were also given dirty forks and spoons for dessert and one still had a leaf from somebody's salad stuck to it. I order a 6 oz. steak that would have been too small for even my 6 year old daughter to eat . Small is not a word I would use for this piece of meat. A friend of ours ordered it too, hers was under cooked, o.k. bloody red inside for a medium well. My wife had the trout, it was fish (fried) with a layer of something that was suppose to be mushroom sauce. Try baby food with no taste, and (tiny) diced mushrooms, I counted them three. The salad was good but it was (tiny), don't get me wrong I am not a pig, but for the price you pay the portions need to be re-considered. Also, use larger glasses or re-fill them more often, my kids drink more water then that in one sitting. Folks Don't go, There is more Cajun at JOe's Crab Shack. Pros: Bread and Butter Cons: Small portions, Poor service, Bland food more

Ambiance Good, Ambitious Menu - Soggy Food, Poor Service 12/1/2006

I liked the decor and the whole restaurant concept. Even the story is amazing - Katrina refugee restaurant ! But the food quality was just not what I expected for a place that was supposedly a gourmet restaurant in its home town. The breading on the fish was soggy, and the shrimp tasted fishy. The salad greens were also badly wilted. I really think the recipes just need to be changed to make the food more flavorful. I didn't think the service was necessarily slow, just inattentive and understaffed. Do the owners have trouble finding qualified wait staff or what? Message to the cooks: Don't be afraid of the spice cabinet!! Spices can be your friend!! Pros: Location, Ambiance, Concept, Wines Cons: Food Quality, Food Preparation, Service more

Good,hopefully one day awesome 11/18/2006

I have to agree with some of the postings about service. I have been twice for brunch, both times with reservations. Both times upon entering, we had to wait several minutes for a hostess. The first time we had an excellent server and it was his first week. The second time our server was a little nervous and not very efficient. Both times I had the eggs benedict and both times they were overcooked to almost hard boiled. Everyone else liked their food. The fish and shrimp seemed to be fresh from the gulf and never frozen. We were able to order from the brunch and dinner menus, so I do not know if this is some new rule that you can only order from the brunch menu. I have never had to wait for drinks be it juice, coffee, or champagne. I was slightly annoyed that they made me pay extra for a mimosa. I hope they get better with time. I will go back at least one more time. Pros: free flowing champagne, fresh seafood Cons: unprompt seating, overcooked eggs more

I really wanted to liked it... 11/15/2006

I read reviews but went anyway, because I thought they had good history & maybe they had worked out the kinks already. Our server was very nice & attentive, but she is not the chef nor manager. Our food was overcooked (shrimp, scallops, & particularly the steak ), the service was slow because they had a 30 top in one of the private rooms (again, not the servers fault) & they were short handed. Our server gave us a sample of a wine she was not quite sure about, after we asked her about the sweetness. But, to pick up our wine order, she had to go completely around the dining area to a 1/2 door between the kitchen & the bar, when the bar was only 7 steps away from our table by the front door & the tables were only about 1/4 full. The salad, though, was very good & they have good wine prices. I also really liked their Mardi Gras veggies (good spices). But, for the great food they supposedley had on the Mississippi Gulf coast --- well, they still do have some kinks to work out. Pros: Nice ambience, service & music Cons: most of the food more

Sorry, it's just average. 11/10/2006

They have everything going for it but the food. Cons: Food not as advertised. more

Great Joint 11/8/2006

After several trips to Chappy's, I recommend it. I went with a large group and the service was great. I have also been with a smaller group and recieved even better food. Great new place. more

Best all Round; Our new Nashville Favorite 10/26/2006

After reading the few negative reviews, my family and I decided to give Chappy's a try anyway. We were pleasantly surprised and loved the place. Friendly bartender, good music, prompt seating with delightful live music throughout dinner, good friendly service with absolutely great food. Nice ambience with visits by Chappy throughout the evening in the dining area, overseeing every aspect of service. Trout Longbeach was to die for! Filet of trount/ white sauce, shrimp and lump crabmeat make for a fantastic signature dish. Special of Swordfish Piccata with lemon caper sauce was exquisite. Fried Seafood dishes were light and minimally greasy and cooked perfectly. Mahi Mahi was served with light sauce and lump crabmeat that was fantastic. Wine list is not extensive, but prices are reasonable. Nice room for large group of 12-15, and nice private alcoves for groups of 4-6. Desserts are to die for; unfortunately, after filling up with entree's, one rarely has room for dessert. We have now been back three times and each time Chappy has met out expectations and believe me my wife and I are very picky (she is a dietition, and I have three years experience on a Chef's staff). Strongly believe that negative reviews were written by his competitor's!! Parking can be a problem, use the ""free"" Valet. Everyone we observed at other tables seemed to be having a good time--one almost felt like you were at a party. Please give it a try and make up your own mind. We look forward to returning many times. Pros: Food, service, ambience Cons: Haven't found any more

Terrible experience STAY AWAY!!!!!! 10/15/2006

I only wish I had read the other reviews before we went to Chappy's Saturday evening. What a mistake. The service was awful. We were told it would be slow since they had some large parties, like I really care. Pros: Jazz trio in the bar Cons: Everything else about this awful joint! more

Terrible food and service 10/9/2006

My wife and I went for brunch and were very disappointed. The first thing I noticed was how ""cheap"" everything felt on the inside. The carpet looked cheap, the walkway to the restrooms was bad vinyl flooring, and the soap dispenser in the bathroom were already RUSTING. The brunch menu itself explained nothing...no descriptions of the sauces used, no mention of how the fish is cooked, no information about side items...nothing. By the way...ONLY brunch is served on the weekends...even though we were given both dinner and lunch menus when we sat down. Don't ask. The brunch was $19.95 per person, and as another reviewer stated, the portions were very small for that price range. My soup was cold and served in a tiny bowl. I had to ask for coffee twice...and three more times to get the first refill. My water glass also sat empty for most of the meal. The server never bothered to explain the flavored butters...so it was like a surprise when you picked one. Pros: Other than downtown location, NONE. Cons: Service, food, atmostphere more
