I've been to your fine restaurant. I ran in to Viper from Top Gun! (1) ravioli: Well worth the buck for...

I heard of Cafe Lago as a great authentic italian restaurant. I finally tried it and was not that impressed. First they were out of two main dishes out of six they offer. The bad ...

Great neighborhood Italian... 11/3/2006

I had a great dinner last night at Cafe Lago. It's a cosy, comfortable dining spot with an upscale feel. The meal and service were both excellent. We started with the Antipasto plate and I ordered a grilled sirloin in a balsamic reduction. It was amazing steak, but the reduction was a little sweet for my taste. They are known for their wood-fired pizzas, the lasagne and the gnocchi. All in all, you can't go wrong there. We were in a group of five and were seated right away on a Thursday. Parking isn't the easiest in that neighborhood, but we found a place a block away so it can't be that bad. I'm looking forward to going back there again. Highly recommended. more

Nice menu, fab lasagna--what took me so long 6/6/2006

I ate at Lago for the first, but certainly not the last, time tonight with a party of 10. We polished off several bottles of excellent wine, and enjoyed a nice assortment of antipasto before the entrees. "Homemade" lasagna doesn't even mean the same thing to me anymore, now that I've tasted this amazing version made from fresh, thin noodles, rich but fluffy ricotta, and the incredible red sauce. The ravioli, gnocchi, orecchiete and pizza eaters seemed equally happy. The service was friendly and just leisurely enough. Just about the only downside is the difficulty of parking. more

$25 for 25 is wonderful here 3/6/2006

I think I already reviewed Cafe Lago, but if you are wondering about their 25 for $25, we had a great time with this promotion. The meal was terrific and this program included a very nice pasta, a dessert and friendly service. So that's a great choice and it is close in Montlake. more

Cafe Lago . . . Great Italian 2/15/2006

Cafe Lago has two things going for it. Most importantly, it has great italian food and a top notch wait staff. It is also located right around the corner from us in Montlake which makes it easy to pop in. Their handmade pasta is unlike any I have had - light and perfectly cooked. The prices are pretty good given the quality and service. I took my favorite girls their for Valentine's Day last night - we loved it. Next time you are near Montlake for dinner, I recommend stopping in. more

Try the Lasagna 1/20/2006

This is now a huge, huge restaurant since it ate up the space that was the Daily Grind (long live Jackson, but that's another story). In any case, they have super fresh everything. It is a place that is really a labor of love. You can't really go wrong with the pizza, but I've always found that their fresh pastas really are what they are all about. The signature dish is their lasagna. I could go to heaven. This is not the super heavy greasy variety, but it is so light and fluffy, it literally dances off the plate. Simply awesome! more

Hands down amazing lasagna 10/28/2005

Cafe Lago is a dimly lit rustic italian restaurant right by Montlake Bicycles and 520. It looks nice on the outside, but most people don't think of food in that area, they are probably frustrated from a really lame commute and just want to get home. Put that aside though and go order yourself a nice glass of red wine and the lasagna. I can guarantee you never tasted a better lasagna. (grandma's excluded) If that's not your deal, they do have other good options, but at least once check it out. The place is a bit pricey though, so be prepared. more

Superb Italian Food in Montlake 5/19/2005

This restaurant has been a favorite of mine since it opened with only 6 or 8 tables. Now expanded, it still serves the best home-made pasta in the city, especially the ravioli. They melt in your mouth! The oven baked pizzas are also splendid. The service is good, the wait staff friendly and the desserts wonderful. They have a good wine list. more
