I've had my hair cut at some excellent, very chic salons in Boston, LA and Seattle, and DB Sutton is absolutely up to snuff. Rachel did a great cut and partial foil on me, and was friendly and efficient. My hair is important, but my time is too, and not a second was wasted. I was out the door in just over 1.5 hours. One week later, I am still totally impressed every time I look in the mirror.

Simple Joys is everything it's cracked up to be. The guys are pleasant to deal with and work fast and efficiently. I had some scheduling issues and they were very polite and flexible. I had them clean gutters at a rental, and am now going to have them do some pressure washing and moss removal at my own house. Once again, Judy's Book-ers come through with a great recommendation. Thanks, folks!

We love it for the fresh warm tortillas you can watch them make, the basket of *warm* fresh crispy chips that never gets empty, and the varied menu. The spinach enchiladas are amazing, as are the tacos al pastor. Parking at Greenlake is an issue, of course, and Rosita's lot is tiny, but that's truly the only drawback I can think of.

I had a custom storage/entertainment center built for my basement--I had a pretty good idea what I wanted, but Wally at Pioneer really helped refine the design and thought of many things I had forgotten. He is extremely detail oriented, and he produced the cabinet exactly according to the original schedule he gave me. Pioneer is right around the corner from me, and I feel lucky to have a quality business like this one in the neighborhood.

The skin on my scalp is sensitive, and while I've gotten good cuts and color at other places, I'm always sore for a while afterwards. I came across the JB reviews for Mode, and something about "organic" clicked. I went to the Roosevelt location and Celeste did a great job on my hair. I was looking to go a bit darker and lower-maintenance and she knew exactly what to do. Now I have a great, easy style and just the color I wanted for a very reasonable price--plus, it didn't hurt! It's also one of the cutest little salons I've ever seen, and even their coffee is organic (and delicious, I might add). I must give Celeste big props for the fantastic hand massage she gave me while we were waiting on my color. I think I've found my long-term salon.

Electro Serve called me after the previous review was posted. (They read JB!) They offered me 10% back as a goodwill gesture, no strings attached. The phone rep, like the service guy, was extremely nice. They get big points for great customer service (and for tenacity in offering it, since I've been gone all summer and they've patiently left several messages). So I thought I should let y'all know.

I am an introvert and have no freaking idea how to be a good hostess, yet every year or two I get hit by a few cosmic rays and get the wild-ass idea to throw a party and invite ALL the neighbors. Sometimes it's a sherry party, sometimes it's a soup party. (Cosmic rays, I tell ya!) Since I don't have 80 sherry glasses or soup bowls, Abbey is the place I head when I've already sent out the invitations and it's too late to change my mind. They've got it all, it's reasonably priced, and they make good suggestions without trying to "sell" you on renting too much ("yeah, I guess I do need some soup spoons too"). The stuff is good quality (without making you feel like you need to increase your insurance for one weekend), and there's a reasonable selection. They're flexible about the return time, too, which has been very useful.

My tenant called to say that a 4-plug outlet in the kitchen wasn't working. No problem--I'll just call an electrician out of the phone book, one that advertises "no job too small." Electro Serve also advertises "We come today or you don't pay!" Sounds great. I call them, and they can indeed come today--the charge for the visit is $189 if I want a one-hour window, $109 for a three-hour window, or $59 to be on "standby." I opt for the three-hour window, since I do have other things to accomplish today. Went to the unit and waited, and sure enough, the guy calls after an hour. We go in and look. It's not immediately obvious what the problem is, but there is one, and he tells me that it will be $335 for a diagnostic. That's on top of the $109. Uhhhh--okay, I guess. Ten minutes later he comes out and tells me that the GFCI is wonky, but he's got the part in his truck. The only problem is--and he does sound apologetic, and shows me the charge in his book--it costs another $320-ish. So, it cost me $765 and change to get this outlet fixed, which took the repair guy about 40 minutes from start to finish. I'm not used to dealing with electricians for small electrical repairs; is it unreasonable for me to feel somewhat taken?
Pros: very quick service, competent and polite service guy, two-year warranty on the work included
Cons: they don't really warn you in advance that you are going to get in too deep, step by step, to avoid a reaming

We used to park at Doug Fox, but got sick of the find-a-spot-and-wait-for-the-bus-in-the-rain routine. The Masterpark B lot is probably your best bet. You drive into their covered driveway and leave the keys in the car--they take it from there. Hop right on a bus just a few feet from your car dropoff point. It's a busy enough lot that there's always a bus running (we've never had to wait), yet it never seems understaffed or overcrowded. Masterpark B (there are also A and C lots, a few blocks less conveniently located) on International Blvd at 170th. There are always web coupons available at www.masterparking.com, and they give you Alaska miles for parking with them. Can't beat it.
