My sister & I and our Good friends that are sisters, decided to get a Friends & Sisters Tattoo. Tanya did an Excellent job. It was a First Tattoo for 3 of us. I was a little nervous about doing this, I'm 64. Tanya was amazing at going over every step with us & assuring me this decision was what I really wanted. My husband and I wanted to get both get tattoos and Tanya consulted with us on the concept and worked with us to find something we were both excited about. She did a good job explaining the pros and cons of different ideas, and then once we agreed on something we booked an appointment to come back and get the tattoos. When we arrived for our appt, she had drawn up the final image, let us ""try it on"", explained the process and the after-care. The entire process we very professional and well done. We are both very pleased with our tattoos and the experience of working with Tanya! more

I got my first tattoo here and I had a wonderful experience!. Tanya was professional in all our communications. She listened well and was realistic during the design process, helping me to understand no just how my tattoo would look the day I got it but how different design options would look 20 years from now. The actual tattoo process was wonderful. everything was clean and sterile, her studio was uncluttered and she communicated with me throughout, helping me to understand what to expect as well as how to deal with the discomfort. She was clear with after care instructions and is making herself available for any questions. I would highly recommend her and I will definitely be back. more

I have been going to Tanya for over six years. She designed and inked my entire back piece, and has done both of my 3/4 sleeves. I love her work, and I am constantly getting compliments on it. She is collaborative, detail-oriented, and a very talented artist. Whether you are getting your first tattoo or are covered over half your body, Tanya is a grate artist! I met with Tanya a couple times to talk about what I wanted and review art. She has a nice private studio and it feels very secure. This is my first tattoo and it's in a tender spot and I didn't want gawkers walking around making me more anxious and self conscious. As for the art, I wanted it to detract from these significant stretch marks (at least in my mind) that I have on my lower stomach due to being pregnant and being overweight in the past. I decided I would rather look at a trail of cherry blossoms instead of a trail of scars. \r \r Tanya started the tattoo last night and worked on it for several hours. I still have at least a couple hours of coloring left. She is very nice and was calm and focused during the procedure and she was great in conversation. She definately didn't get uptight when I hit my limit and started the triple twitching either. We called the end of session around that time. \r \r This morning when I took off the wrap to start the aftercare regime I was very happy to find no weeping and no bleeding. Tender skin of course and some redness from irritation but that was it. Cleaning it wasn't bad at all. And the design is just right for the goal I requested. Where the cherry blossoms are placed and color is added, the stretch marks disappear all together! It's amazing! It's exactly what I hoped for! I can already see the blending and shading of colors too. It's perfect. I'm so excited! \r \r I'm fortunate to have come to Tanya's door. She's a keeper. more

I've been back 4 times for pieces of artwork and every time I go I love the finished product. Tanya will do exactly what you ask and more so long as the artwork you provide is good quality in the first place, she'll also give good advice on what will and won't work for you. Lots of great reviews tells you something about her work . If you don't get exactly what you want it's because you don't speak up :-) 6 stars out of 5. more

After years of researching Tatoo parlors around the greater Portland area, I decided to meet with Tanya of Above The Pearl Tattoo. I had a 30 year old faded, washed out tattoo I wanted to cover up. I liked her instantly and gave her a picture with quite a bit of detail to cover my old tat. She was excellent. Six sittings in her new place in Milwaukee and I couldn't be happier. She is an excellent artist and did above fantastic work. I would highly recommend her. The studio is well lit, private, air conditioned. You will not be sorry for choosing Tanya. more

I was sent to Tanya by a friend of mine who claimed that she was the best in Portland. I am here to say that as far as I am concerned, she is the best and will be the only person that I ever let put any tattoo on my body ever again.\r \r I went in with a mess of a tattoo that was over 20 years old and wanted it covered up. I had a lot of ideas that I thought might look good and Tanya helped me figure out with her expertise and caring for the her work, what would look the best. I am not an artist and so I put my trust into her. Basically what I thought was going to look good would have been a disaster and she helped me see this. What she did for me is absolutely beautiful and perfect. I love it and could not be anymore happier. Might I add that everyone who see it is in awe of how beautiful it is.\r \r Tanya is a true professional who loves and takes pride in her work. Her studio and the atmosphere that she works in makes you feel very comfortable and at ease.\r \r If your are serious and want a lifelong piece of beautiful art on your body, then email her for a consultation. The fact that she is booked up months and months in advance speaks for her work. If you want a beautiful tattoo that you are proud to show everyone, the wait is worth it.\r \r I am now a piece of art in the making. Since my first cover up piece with her. I now have my next piece scheduled and can hardly wait. We are already speaking months in advance to do another cover up piece that I am thrilled about getting done and continuing my relationship with Tanya. I am so very grateful that my husband and I have found Tanya at a Tattoo Expo many Years ago and after getting a few Pieces done by her we really having a hard Time looking else where. I love the Work she has done on both of us , I love the privacy and cleanliness of the Studio and the one on one interaction. I can trust in her to be honest about what is going to work and what not. I just got a tattoo with Tanya at Above the Pearl yesterday. It was my very first. She was very professional and kind, she made me feel very at ease and had a very methodical way of operating that made me very comfortable. She is obviously committed to making her clients happy and ensuring that the art she imprints is going to last and be just as you want it. \r \r She did a different kind of tattooing for me which is dot tattooing. I was expecting it to hurt quite a bit but honestly it wasn't bad at all. Tanya made sure to ask me several times how I was doing and if I was comfortable. She is pleasant to talk with and the work was very detailed and she did an absolutely wonderful job.\r \r Tanya will send you home with incredibly detailed instructions on how to care for your tattoo and offers a free touch up within one year of your tattoo given that you follow these instructions and don't ruin her work by ignoring aftercare.\r \r She is really a really dedicated and exceptional artist. Tanya took my inspiration tattoo picture and created something I will be proud to wear forever.\r \r Many thanks! more

I got my first tattoo with Tanya over a year ago, and I feel horrible that I've just gotten around to recommending her on Citysearch. Tanya is incredibly professional and helped me throughout the entire process. I was very picky about my first tattoo artist, and I was so pleased to read her reviews. Every good thing that I've read about Tanya and Above the Pearl is true! I contacted her about 5 months before I wanted my tattoo, and she and I met before I left to go off to another semester at school. She was willing to plan my tattoo appointment months in advanced. And then when I needed my date rescheduled, she was awesome and helped me reschedule. Unfortunately, there was a scheduling hiccup, but she was super flexible and understanding. I was so impressed with her art work and she helped fine tune the idea I had for my tattoo. \r \r The thing that stood out to me was the professionalism and cleanliness/sterility her tattoo parlor had. I'm in nursing school and safety/sterility is incredibly important for me. She followed all of the state regulations and showed me all of her equipment before she started.\r \r She walked me through the entire process and I would not hesitate to recommend her to anyone else. I will never get a tattoo any place else! SO glad I found her! more

This was my first tattoo and I wanted to make sure I knew what I would be getting into if I was going to get something that would last a lifetime. After researching the artists in the Portland area, I decided hands down that Tanya at Above The Pearl Tattoo would be the one for me. Im so glad I chose her! Her office is clean and inviting, her tools are sterile and she will show you exactly where they come from and how she cleans them, so you know you can trust her. Her artwork is simply stunning! She listens to what you want and delivers a product that you will love! Im halfway through a quarter sleeve and am amazed at how good it looks even only half done! Im so excited for the final product. Tanya takes great care in her work and her clients before, during, and after the tattoo. She will go over step by step the procedures in aftercare to get the best results of the new tattoo. I cannot say enough good things about her! I will definitely be back for more!     About Tanya: Tanya earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications: Graphic & Publication Design from California State University, Chico in 1994.

    In 2003 Tanya "lost her taste" for the Xerox corporate culture. She studied tattooing under the direction of Rio Degennaro at the Oregon School of Tattoo Arts, and has since devoted her passion and talents to operating a successful tattoo business, establishing long-lasting client relationships, and other artistic pursuits.
