Little Apollo Preschool is located on the campus of Sunset High School in Portland, Oregon. Designed to be a child development class for Juniors and Seniors, Little Apollo is also an actual Preschool. The pre-school is run by 2 very well qualified and wonderful teachers who also assist the high-school "student teachers" in the class.
One of the things I love about this pre-school is how well it's organized. Since the main teacher has about 30 years with Little Apollo under her belt, and the assistant teacher has close to 17 years, the definitely know what they are doing. They have play time, circle time, project time, snack time and even time for organized games in the high school gym. They know what works and they are wonderful at their jobs. The kids love them too!
Since there are about 10-15 student teachers in each class of 24 pre-schoolers, each child has a lot of help and attention through out the day. The high school students are really cute with the kids and clearly very interested in them. Some of the high school student teachers are actually former Little Apollo students.
There are 2 field trips during the year and a fun curriculum that is perfect for getting kids ready for kindergarten both academically and socially.
The price can't be beat either. For a 3 year old, who attend 2 days a week, the tuition is $70 a month. For a 4 year old who attends 3 days a week, tuition is $98 a month. There are morning and afternoon classes available for 3 and 4 year olds and if you register around April or May, you should have no problem getting in for the Fall. (It's best to get your name on the list before summer break). There are often openings in the middle of the school year too, so it's not too hard to get your child enrolled.
I highly recommend this pre-school to anyone with a pre-school aged child in the Portland area. You won't be disappointed.

I absolutely love this daycare. My son has been here since he was 15 months old and he loves his teachers. They are fair and treat each child as their own. The teachers have been here for many years, which is unheard of in many daycares. The indoor and outdoor play areas are safe and age-appropriate. Their pricing is very fair, considering what they offer. Their programs aren't as structured as Kindercare (or other similar facilities) but are more structured than many in-home providers.

It's a wonderful school and has a very high percentage-- almost 100 percent-- of the students attending a four year college. It is ethnically diverse and the teachers are caring and wonderful. They have a lot of outside activities such as sports and clubs and service projects. I believe that it's the only all girls high school left in the state and it offers a very different environment than most schools. Most students love going there. It's located downtown and offers a very different campus environment.

Oregon Outreach, Inc. is the most unique alternative school in the Portland area.
It offers opportunities for students like my daughter who just don't fit into the public school mode and want to work through high school courses in record time and it offers redemption opportunities for students who have dropped out and realized they need that diploma to better their lives.
Tuition for those students who are not referred by school districts runs about $7,000 per year and scholarships are available.
The school offers a basketball team, yearbook, and many community service opportunities.
As a parent, I would never think of sending my child to Portland Public schools...but I didn't hesitate sending her here!

Our son goes to this school and it is the greatest school. The staff are wonderful, the price is right for a private school. This school is teaching our good ethics and morals that we don't even think about.
Education is the 1st and foremost thing for this school. If you want your children to excel in life, this is a great start. The teaching is about phonics so it is easier for the students to learn.

One of my coworker’s children attended this school and loved it. While located on the east side of town, due to its unique structure it draws families from all over the Metro area. To my knowledge, this Montessori program is the only remaining academy that provides schooling from early childhood to young adult.
The earth experiences particularly intrigued me with gardening on site plus camping and hiking field trips. A completely well funded small private school it offers many programs that other schools in the area have dropped, band, dance, fine arts, PE, foreign language and community service.

Central Catholic is more than just a Catholic High School; it offers an excellent well-rounded education. While so many of the public schools are dropping all the extra curricular activities, not at Central. They have incredible sport, arts, club and activities to offer each student. There have been many updates over the last couple of years particularly in the science and technology classrooms, plus a brand new library and sports field out back.
A school very involved in the community at every level, which gives children more than just a classroom education.

As an alumnus of this institution, I can't say whether or not I would highly recommend this institution anymore. My younger brother attends currently, and it seems as though over the past few decade there has been a change from focusing on the education of students, to focusing on the social status of the institution. Troubling as well is the lack of elective courses this institution offers for its students.

This is just my opinion, but I want my children to have a balanced education. That means that sex-ed should not just preach abstinance, but should also educate students on sexual activity. In addition, I think that teachers should know more about world affairs rather than having its students teach them about the world around them. I simply cannot recommend this school unless you want your children to grow up to be completely close-minded.
