Going to the Zoo at Christmas time has become a family tradition for us. At Christmas time they have a train that you can ride and see lighted up animals all along the track. It's a really fun thing to do. Our kids love to go and it's fun for the whole family. They usually have concessions for sale too so if it's too cold, you can buy coffee or hot chocolate.

My first trip to OMSI was a school sleepover, 15 years ago. When I was in college I volunteered around the museum teaching people of all ages and demonstrating science to them. I love everything about OMSI - it reminds me that there is a kid in all of us desiring to learn as much as we can about the world around us. Whether it be physics, chemistry, biology, human development, technology, industry, etc., the INTERACTIVE HANDS ON exhibits inspire and help me learn by doing and make difficult or abstract concepts easy to learn and understand.

Several years ago I received poor service at the Bagdad, so I decided to spend my money elsewhere. However, they were the only theater playing the movie my boyfriend wanted to see, so I caved. I was pleasantly suprised to receive such great service! My waitress was very sweet, efficient, and knowledgeable about the food/ beer selection, and even told us interesting tidbits about the history of the theater. She recommended the chicken enchiladas, which were delicious! Every time our beers were low, she made sure we had a new round before our old glassed were empty. She also made a killer Spanish coffee for dessert. She offered to put our movie tickets on our tab, and made sure we were all cashed out in time to get in to the movie. We tipped her considerably well- and she deserved it! Before we left, my boyfriend told her that it was the best service we had received at McMenamins. She explained that there was a "weeding out" of the bad servers, as well as a new training program that is helping to change their reputation. It must be working! We highly recommend the Bagdad to anyone.
Pros: great service, beautiful place, great beer.

More
The Crystal is truly an amazing place to visit. The history alone should be enough to draw you in, as it once was a dance hall created almost 100 years ago. While its beginning held high fashion events, it also enjoyed groups like the Grateful Dead in the 60s.
The building has been restored through incredible workmanship and art displays. The dance floor is the original floating ballroom floor that actually bounces when you dance on it. A nice stage on one end and a small balcony on the other, with the dance floor stretching in between, there is no better way to enjoy live music and dancing. They serve snacks and drinks during their events and have a small pub on the floor under the ballroom. It can be quite entertaining sitting in the pub listening to the floating floor up above during a large event.
No matter how you take it in, one must experience the Crystal Ballroom at least once, if not many times, at some point in their lives.

More
While a one-time visit can be rather costly, at $15 per person for a non-member, a family membership at $75 per year is pretty reasonable for a museum that provides an excellent program with considerably less endowment funding than a big city museum. They have a decent representative collection of Asian, Native American, European, and American art. The space is well laid out, bright, and comfortable, with a nice museum store, cafe, and a new wing that will be opening October 2, which will house a new space for modern and contemporary art and the Northwest Film Center, among other new resources . Kids seem to welcome, and there are many classes available for younger ones. There are also many events for curious adults, too.

More
I love going downtown to Apple Music every now and then. They have amazing vintage guitars that I've never seen before, even though they're pretty expensive. They also have guitars I can't find at places such as Guitar Center or Portland Music. Also unlike Guitar Center, the employees are knowedgeable and friendly. Something that seemed a little odd though,w as on some guitars, they were charging more than what they were at other stores. Like this one Dean guitar you can get for $200 at Portland Music, Apple Music sells it for $280. But besides minor things like that, they have an excellent selection of guitars and amps, and it's always fun just to go in and try stuff out. It's great to have such an awesome music store here in Portland!

Everyday Music is tonal addiction. Thems gots everything. Lots of local stuff, and a good selection of imports/rarities. Music junkie atmosphere, and staff that knows their way around the world of music. Hard to say much more - other than this should be on you list of top 3 music stores in Portland.

For my birthday we had a girls night out. Darcell's was the place to go we had heard. So we all went. The door charge was $10 and then they will sell you a poloroid picture. I suggest getting it because you will want the proof you were there and the memories. They do allow you to take photos there so take your digi-cam with you. This is a vegas style comedy and caberet type act with female impersonators, and Darcell..well she/he is 72 years old and has the best comedy routines i have seen. The music acts & skits left us laughing until it literally hurt. Don't want to give to much away, but have your camera ready for the act "hey big spender" and the grease skit.

Rarely will you find an amusement park that has been in operation for 100 years. Oaks Amusement Park goes back that far. The grounds are huge and there are many nice places for picnicking including some reservable areas. There are modern thrill rides and also a large wooden skating rink. This place is a child's' dream come true.
