Best Tattoo Experience Ever! 4/17/2010

I had my first appointment (for outlining and secondary outlining) with Tanya and I can't be more pleased! Not only is her space clean and comfortable, but Tanya has a way of making you feel very comfortable on her own. For the first time ever I felt I could fall asleep while being tattooed on her comfortable massage table. You get a pillow behind your head and one underneath your knees.. How thoughtful! She created something wonderful and beautiful out of all of my jumbled ideas, and really brought together a piece I can be happy with for the rest of my life. My advice to anyone looking for a piece (small or big) to contact Tanya. I am so overly pleased, and can't WAIT for color! Thank you thank you thank you thank you! Great experience for your 1st tattoo (or your 21st)!! 3/25/2010

Very thorough and professional, Tanya is not your typical street corner tattoo parlor artist. We had very few ideas to work with when we arrived, but she was able to use them to come up with some beautiful art for my wife and me. Her studio is very clean and comfortable, and it is clear that Tanya takes her art seriously. She offers a post-consultation to see your healed results and offers touch ups where necessary. Great Experience-Will Return! 1/10/2010

My tattoo was done yesterday by Tanya and I am very satisfied with my experience. Tanya is extremely professional, a straight-forward communicator, and a talented artist. I want to thank Tanya for such an easy time for my tattoos. I had my back done by her (still work in progress) and had my stomach art done by her, both of which turned out amazing.\r \r I think the difference between Tanya and other artists i have had the pleasures of getting tattoos from is that she is precise, and very much a perfectionist. My custom tattoo had multiple examples for colour, size, even line style. I had my consultation appointment with Tanya way back in July. I knew what I wanted, generally, but wasn't sure what exactly I wanted it to look like. After providing Tanya with some photos of Rainier cherry blossoms and the words I wanted scripted, she put together a really nice piece for me. \r \r I went in in October for the actual tattoo, and she did a beautiful job. Tanya made me feel super comfortable, and relaxed. I have the piece Tanya did on my right forearm, and another piece on my left forearm, and while I love both pieces, the piece Tanya did garners me more compliments from people. It's truly beautiful.\r \r I'd definitely go back for more ink, if I only knew what I wanted! She's amazing, but book early, her schedule fills up super fast! Awesome work 11/25/2009

I'm getting my sleeve done here and have gotten about a third of it done and am waiting for it to heal. My experience was beyond awesome and the work I have so far is great. The best part is that you don't have to sit in plastic chairs and bench press benches while you cramp up and get your tat. You can chillax on the amazazing message bed. Recommend to anybody searching for great art. Pros: Great tattoo work and the most comfortable atmosphere more

Knew what I wanted better than I did 11/1/2009

With only a vague glimmer of a description of what I wanted, Tanya created artwork for the tattoo that was far better than anything I could have envisioned myself.\r Her skill in giving me the tattoo was such that I experienced a lot less discomfort than I did with my one other tattoo. The one she gave me is quite a bit larger, with significantly more shading. I feel that that alone says a lot.\r When I recieved my first tattoo a couple of years ago, I thought the line work was really good. Tanya's work though, really put the other guy to shame. Her hand is sure and steady. Her lines are super clean. Where they should be straight-they are STRAIGHT, where they are supposed to curve, they curve evenly and cleanly.\r Really apreciated the privacy of her studio as opposed to a 'walk -in' situation. I HIGHLY value my privacy and she fully takes that into consideration in all aspects of her work.\r Wouldn't go anywhere else in the future, but schedule quick! Beautiful custom artwork and touch ups 10/31/2009

Tanya does unique custom artwork tailored to the individual. She took my drawing of a thistle and made it 'tattoo-able.' I realize not everyone is going to come in with their own drawing and say 'do this,' but I think having such a concrete idea of what I'd like makes me a challenging customer, and she did an amazing job. She knows how to work with the contours of the unique canvas that is the human body. I also had Tanya touch up my other original tattoo that was fading after 12 years, a process I highly recommend to the ink addicted. It keeps the artwork fresh. Tanya does wonderful Celtic knot work, has amazingly beautiful colors, and has a massage bench for us clients to lie on. How awesome is that? Pros: Convenient location, long hours more

i wanted my first tattoo to be a experience. thinking about a tattoo for 5 years i wanted it to be private and personal. tonya was all this. she was professional and designed the exact small tattoo that i had in mind. above the pearl tattoo is the best place to have that first tattoo experience. i will go back when i get my next tattoo from tonya and recomend her to anyone who is looking for the personal....professional.....private....perfect....tattoo artist. Great Proffessionalism and fastanstic art! 7/24/2009

An intelligent artist that understand what YOU the client is looking for in your tattoo, and the experience that it brings. Her handling skills are excellent, and her concern is genuine about your tattoo and aftercare for it as well. SHe is concern that the tattoo lasts your entire life and wants it to be memorable. This is not a place for people wanting a tattoo on the spur of the moment. You do have to make an appointment, and take time and consideration of your piece of art. If you're looking for a friendly place to get a beautiful piece of art WITHOUT the overwhelming ""I'm a rockstar cause I tatttoo"" attitude...this is the place to go! I had set out to get a tattoo over a year ago. Due to traveling, bad weather, and all of the other things life brings...I had to reschedule my appointment more than once. Tanya was more than happy to work with me and my crazy schedule. I'm actually from out of town and visit Portland a few times a year. She was so friendly and made me feel very comfortable. We worked together on my piece. She offered suggestions, drew several versions, and we achieved (well I think so at least) the perfect piece for me. I would highly recommend her to anyone. My husband will be visiting her for a touch up and I think even my mom has decided to finally get some ink as well! Pros: Beautiful artwork in a relaxed and friendly environment! Simply The Best! 7/5/2009

Like many other posters this was my first tattoo experience and I couldn't have asked for it to have gone any better!!! I am not what you would consider a ""typical"" tattoo customer. I'm a middle-aged, overweight, professional woman. I was very nervous about my first meeting with Tanya, not so much because of what I was expecting but because I wasn't sure what she'd think of me. I needn't have worried. Tanya instantly put me at ease. Never once did I feel silly or stupid or out of place for wanting a tattoo. She was very attentive, taking notes and listening as I explained what I wanted and why. She asked lots of questions, which impressed me, to make sure I got exactly what I wanted. I had a very general idea of what I wanted and several elements that I definitely wanted in the tattoo but no real ""design"". Tanya's incredible design incorporated everything I wanted and my tattoo is absolutely beautiful! I was stunned that she seemed to know what I wanted even when I wasn't exactly sure. I look at it every day and smile. I already have several ideas in mind for other tattoos and I absolutely will be going back to Tanya when I'm ready for them. I could not recommend her more highly. Best tattoo so far 7/2/2009

I had Tanya tattoo a beautiful daisey over my birthmark. She did a wonderful job and the tattoo came out looking amazing. She is very professional and very realistic. She wants to make sure your tattoo will look great years to come and offers advice on size, detail, and color to assure this happens. I had her change the design several times to make it exactly what I wanted and she did so with patience and skill. Very down to earth personality and offers a relaxing environment. First Tattoo; Great Experience 7/1/2009

My daughter discovered Above the Pearl online. I went with her for the initial consultation visit and I was impressed with Tanya's professionalism. She made us feel comfortable and she produced beautiful artwork for both my daughter and me. She is our first tattoo artist and we were both impressed with her abilities to listen to us and to make fabulous recommendations. I am a nurse, so sterile procedure was a focus for me. She is top notch and uses safe and sterile technique. I have recommended her to everyone. I also saw one of her tats on a shoulder of a woman at a party recently.     About Tanya: Tanya earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communications: Graphic & Publication Design from California State University, Chico in 1994.

    In 2003 Tanya "lost her taste" for the Xerox corporate culture. She studied tattooing under the direction of Rio Degennaro at the Oregon School of Tattoo Arts, and has since devoted her passion and talents to operating a successful tattoo business, establishing long-lasting client relationships, and other artistic pursuits.
