Papa Haydn serves excellent food and dessert, and the environment of the restaurant is fun and sophisticated. The neighborhood (NW 23rd Ave) is fun, and I think adds to the appeal of the restaurant.
The food is delicious and creative, and you have plenty of options. The desserts, though, are a major draw. The cakes, the panna cotta, anything with chocolate -- Papa Haydn knows their desserts and offers a wide selection.
Expect a bit of a wait on weekends, but the wait is worth it (and save room for dessert!).

Very fun for the college set or those with a good sense of humor and adventure. A group I know of liked to pick a huge round table because it slowly turned as you sat so suddenly you look down and someone else's coffee is in front of you, I also heard something about a shrinking table, so this is a fun place. Probably not the place for a business meeting, or who knows. The resident mannequin in the bathroom sort of shocks you so I will warn you ahead of time. They have live music so it is more about entertainment not #1 for coffee or dessert.

The Pied Cow is great for a quiet snack with friends. It's more expensive than a lot of coffee cafes, if not vastly, but the real reward is the ambiance -- an outdoor garden that's a little world unto itself, or an intimate warm room hung with art and cozy seating. It's often crowded, but somehow never feels overfull, even when there's a wait. (I've never had a very long wait, though.) The lighting is dim, and this is most definitely a spot to visit with your people -- a good place to end an evening or begin one
Fare is essentially appetizers, desserts and beverages: they do wonderful steamers for a little over $3, and luxurious espresso drinks for closer to $4. Desserts and appetizers start at around $4 and upwards, most of them around $6-7. The Pied Cow is most usually open until 1:00 AM, and I heartily recommend it. Although I'm told they overbrew their tea (I haven't tried it, but I tend to like mine that way, so it's a matter of taste) going here always makes me feel like a faerie queen at the best tea party in the world.

We ordered our wedding cake here & we were so pleased with it. We had many compliments on it. It was so moist & delicious. I'm not sure if they still do this, but when we bought our wedding cake 5 years ago, we were given a certificate for a free anniversary cake for our first anniversary! It sure did beat trying to save the top layer.
JaCiva not only makes wedding cakes, but delicious chocolates and truffles as well. They are a bit expensive, but isn't it worth it to splurge on yourself every so often?

our wedding cake. We had a completely golf themed wedding in Sept at Camas Meadows Golf Club. Helen Bernhard's did our cake.
We have 4 cakes, each a different size and flavor. They carried the golf theme through all four cakes. The first cake (the tee) was on a tall pedestal and had two golfers on it. Cake 2 was slightly lower and decorated like the fairway (even had sand traps). Cake 3 was a round water hazard with the golf clubs and the 4th cake (a sheet cake) was the putting green and hole. They even included the golf cart. It fit perfectly in our theme.
Not only was everyone in awe of the design it was delicious to boot!

If you're a girl, don't take a boy here, he'll never appreciate it. Go here for a girly evening with your friends and leave him at home with a beer. I've never eaten anything other than dessert here and I can't imagine that I ever will, but I hear the food is decent. It doesn't matter though, you come here for dessert. The selection is dominated by chocolate, with usually one non-chocolate cheescake and at least one non-chocolate cake. To be honest, I've been here probably dozens of times and only ordered one thing: the boccone dolce. Sometimes I find myself dreaming of it's layers of swiss meringue, cream, fresh fruit and dark chocolate. It's so good that I probably won't ever convince myself to try anything else. Oh well.

I have been to Hannah Bea's a few times and have always had a good experience. We have always gone in the morning for their brunch buffet. The food is what they say it is... home cooking. It reminds me of breakfasts my mom would make me when I was growing up. The biscuits and gravy are addicting and the coffee is memorable as well. When you walk in it feels like a family owns the place and is very comfortable. Give them a try and see for yourself.
Pros: Great Food, Great People, Comfortable Atmosphere, Good Location
Cons: None.

Located near Powell's books, this makes a great spot for a light breakfast or lunch or a sweet treat. They offer delectable pastries and cookies as well as an interesting selections of breads. You can order whole cakes here. I like that they serve organic coffee. I always try to support businesses that promote organic foods whenever possible.

I've visited Piece of Cake with my lady friends from time to time for special birthdays...we all go in, pretend that cake has no calories (after all, the cakes are so light to the touch that they can't add any pounds...right?) and then lament that we couldn't try them all.
Then I met Natasha. NOW I know the secret to Piece of Cake...Natasha. She's one of the decorators there. Natash is a mousy Slavic woman who guards secrets and works to create decorations to perfection. She's not the owner, she's just an employee...and when an employee is that devoted, it's got to be good! From now on, when I go in, I only want the cakes that Natasha has made...her cakes take the cake!

I am in love with this bakery. I had an emergency and needed to stop and get a cake for a party I was going to. I decided to try this place out because it was on my way and boy am I happy I did. They were so nice and helpful. I had a ton of questions and they were patient with me and answered all my questions. The cake they suggested was good. The price was also very reasonable. I got my cake and left. I had a lot of compliments on the cake and would definitely recommend this place to everyone.
