Much better fine dining in sf! 4/4/2012

HUGE disappointment. After a cocktail & dinner I order a glass of wine which was absolutely disgusting... Not only does the waiter agree the wine is not good but goes on to say all wines by the glass are bad tasting and we should order a bottle (dinner was over by this point so probably not ordering a bottle). I ordered another cocktail and told the waiter the wine was not drinkable (the wine was that bad) and he charged for both! Furthermore, he gave us attitude about splitting four courses of appetizers & entres then brought them all out at the same time. Our $150 dinner was less than an hour and the only reason it was that long is it took 15 mins to get the cocktail I ordered to replace the wine. Unfortunately, it was our anniversary and instead of feeling satisfied after a romantic dinner, I'm writing this post. There's much better places in SF for a nice dinner like A-16, Butterfly, Fringle & La Folle. more

Terrible 11/25/2009

It was awful experience for me. Cons: never use it more

Disappointing Food -- Nice Atmosphere 9/17/2008

Brought a business client for dinner -- it has been 5 years since I last ate at this restaurant. Atmosphere remains very pleasant and the view impressive. Had the impression that tourists were an important part of the restaurant's business. Service was amateurish (maybe Tuesday is training night), but the appetizers were good. My client and I had Halibut -- delicate fish that was overcooked to death. Texture and taste of airline-prepared chicken breast. more

One of the worst dining experiences ever! 8/14/2008

Out steak was tough, our waiter was apathetic, but the worst was the manager....... he was rude and downright insulting. (Enough so that I am writing my very first review of a restaurant!!!!!) I will NEVER go back, and I will be in the area quite a bit over the next year or so, with quite a few other people. more

Wow what a special dining experience! 8/8/2008

2000 words would just scratch the surface for describing this jewel! It has taken over 1st place in our San Francisco dining list for future visits. Why you ask? Will it suffice to say the entire experience with this establishment made it a ""perfect event""; reservations delivered a water view table, service was impeccable with no sense of urgency, cocktails were expertly mastered, an appetizer of calamari was exquisite with the spicy aioli, entrees of cioppino (the best my husband has ever had he says) & grilled scallop/shrimp were decidedly delectable, sides of crab mashed potatoes & grilled asparagus were perfect accompaniments, and the defining dessert of sublime chocolate mousse cake delivered to us gratis celebrating our 39th anniversary. Could we ask for more? We think not & now you know why this special place has risen to the top of our ""exclusive"" dining list. We travel the world searching out such experiences & we have had one here! Pros: everything, service especially & ambiance to spare, food flavors abound Cons: none found more

Worth a visit for the view alone 3/2/2008

I moved to the bay area from the midwest to be by the ocean. Thus I like places that remind me about everything that is great about this city. While this place is a little touristy (somewhat higher prices for the quality of the food), the view still makes it an excellent value and worth a visit. I go approximately six times a year. I have always had excellent service, and a table with an excellent view of the bay and the food is reliably good (though I head here more for the view than the food). It is also a great place to bring family and friends from out of town. Pros: Great view, friendly service Cons: Average tasting food (a little bland) more

Great view/ambiance, food is just ok. 2/17/2008

I went to Waterfront for Valentine's Day and they had a prix fixe menu so I'm not sure how representative the food is for the rest of the year. Anyways, the restaurant has a relatively cozy feel and a great view. Pros: View, outdoor dining, service, ambiance Cons: average food, expensive more

OUR WEDDING WAS PERFECT 2/16/2008

We had our wedding at Waterfront on June 18, 2007. Not only the restaurant has a spectacular view, the personnel are all so helpful and understanding. We had only 4 months to plan for this important event, with Al (THE OWNER) and Cheryl (THE EVENT PLANNER)'s help, it went by like a breeze. We could not say enough about this restaurant. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to all of our friends. more

best out door seating 11/17/2007

We had lunch at the waterfront friday. The out door seating was great. Oysters were wonderful. Lance our server rock. Salmon sandwich to die for, too much fries. more

uncomfortable dining experience 11/3/2007

lettuce not fresh, Pros: pretty table, nice view Cons: no vegetarian food, $10 to park for lunch, unaccomodating more

Can't beat the view but the food was ordinary 10/23/2007

Waitstaff was very attentive and excellent. View was phenomenal since we were able to see the bay bridge as the sunset shined on it. Food was average. Sourdough bread was not consistent. The second 'batch' of bread tasted very different (i.e. fresher) than the first batch. my dungeoness crab was 'ok' but nothing really spectacular. It tasted like blue crab to me. The desserts were, well, average but very good. Nothing fancy, nothing special, just good food, excllent more

Too bad for San Francisco 9/30/2007

My friends and I went to have brunch at the one of the best restaurants of San Francisco on the August 29th 2007 - Zagat Rated. We are proud to share our experience with you of this SF Restaurant. The perfect brunch was upsetted by a series of poor food and quality services. Firstly, 30 minutes after we ordered, it took the server named Sean to inform us the daily special he recommended was no longer available. Then 45 minutes later, the steak was served below medium rare by request and we discovered that the steak were burned on the both side and taste like bitter coal. However, the Manager Ali critique the steak is supposed to be served as is. The manager Ali became aware that we were not really pleased. Ali generously offered us the dessert that did not serve to our table in the end. Today, we found that the bill was overcharged by approx. 50 dollars. more

Worse experience ever! 9/18/2007

This place has a shockingly bad service! Me and my mother arrived there just after 9 PM and was told by the personnel that they were closed (still guest in the restaurant). We informed them that on their webpage it said open to 10.30PM. They never appolgizd and only said "" we will update our web"". However, on the front door it said 10:30 PM and we overheard another waiter say something about running out of food. The fact is that they lied, wasted our time and taxi money! They should win the worse service award of the year. Never eaten there and will never try it again! more

Avoid at all costs! 8/25/2007

Whilst food is ffne, attitude of staff leaves a lot to be desired from management down. Pros: Decent food Cons: Staff attitude, cab service, early evening clearance more

Most attentive, caring place with best views in the city. 6/28/2007

Wow, what an amazing place. I have to say it has the best views of city. Right on the water and views of the Bay Bridge and Market Building and City. As I read the previous complaints, I wondered if they ate at the same place. This place is attentive. I was waiting for a friend and didn't get the 'we won't seat you till everyone arrives' speech, but decided to wait . I even had someone come up and ask me if I wanted a drink while I was waiting in less than 2 minutes. When we were ready, we were sat promptly. Our waiter was the best I have had in a long time. Food was amazing, don't think I have had better. I watched as a man in a suit walked around the restaurant every few minutes and checked to see if everything was ok. He even cleared plates and got drink for people if they needed it. Manager maybe ? Guy deserves a raise. My coffee was half empty and he asked twice to see if I needed more. Then when they saw we had a camera on the table, they suggested we go outside and take one with the bridge in the background. The guy spent over 10 minutes with us. Pros: Fresh Fish, Views, Awesome Attentive Service and Value Cons: Waited a long time for taxi more

Great Views, lousy food and service 6/18/2007

A group of friends and I decided to try this restaurant as three of the friends were first time visitors to San Francisco and wanted to try a nice restaurant. The menu online looks great and that's where it stops. We had 7:30pm reservations on a not so busy Saturday evening. Three of us had arrived about 20 minutes early and were seated at a lovely patio table with views of the Bay Bridge. We sat there for 20 minutes before anyone acknowledged us for water, drinks, etc. I had to ask a hurried waiter/buser for a glass of water. Our other two friends arrived and we perused the menu. I had ordered the steak with a substitution of asparagus for a dinner salad. That was fine. I also ordered a side of mashed potatoes. Another friend also ordered a side of mashed potatoes. We all consumed various types of drinks as well. Our dinner was served and my big, hot steak was draped across the salad and no sign of mashed potatoes. Two of my friends ordered fish, which were really salty and overcooked. One of our friends ordered a salad prior to that was never ordered or prepared. I casually mentioned that I had ordered mashed potatoes and the frazzled waitress took a USED bread plate in front a friend sitting across from me and scooped up half of his ""double order"" as he ""had too much"" and placed half of it on said bread plate and handed it to me. I've had better mashed potates from a box. They were tasteless and dry. For an ""upscale"" restaurant, it was subpar. At the end of our meal, the wait staff took everyone's plate and removed it from the table as I was STILL eating. Our waitress then tells me that ""it's okay to keep eating"" while they take away everyone else's dish. For the amount of money spent there, I would expect better food and much better service. As we departed, we decided to relay our opinions to a manager. Well, to our surprise, none was available and were forced to talk to another server who didn't really seem to care. He offered free drinks and dessert! No way! Pros: Great views of the Bay Bridge, Location, heated patio Cons: ALL the food, service, overpricing of the menu, managers don't seem to work there, having to ask after 20 minutes of waiting for acknolwedgement for water more

Great View & Seafood!! 2/2/2007

I wanted to take my friend from New York to eat outside since it was a sunny & warm day in January. We sat out on the patio and watched the boats go around Treasure Island & under the Bay Bridge while we ordered drinks. They had several wine by the glass and cocktail selections. Tina, our waitress was very informative and helped us with choosing what to order. Pros: Great View, Food & Drinks Cons: Difficult parking. more

Don't waste your money! 1/16/2007

First off, the food was mediocre at best. I ordered the steak which was very dry and tough. Secondly, The ambiance is very cold and uninviting. Thirdly, the service is terrible. They messed up our check three times, one time overcharged us, second time doubled our dessert and coffee orders, third time rang up someone else's bill on our credit card. Lastly, they lost our valet keys for 20 minutes. They were searching frantically everwhere and could not find it. We were the only lone car in the parking lot so it baffled us how they could lose our key. Finally, they found our keys and told us they didn't know it was a key. How could they NOT have a system of where they put the keys? I could not believe it. For an upscale restaurant, I would have to say they are very disorganized and non accommodating. I would not waste my money on this place. There are too many other incredible upscale restaurants in SF with top of the line service. This one is NOT one of them. Pros: waterfront views Cons: terrible service, mediocre food..... more
