Saigon Deli

I've tried many of the places around Seattle and this would be my pick for best vietnamese sandwitch. I've only ever tried the #1 (roast pork) but its always great. more

Don't be fooled, this is *THE* Saigon Deli to get your sandwiches. They used to be in the Cingular strip mall a block away, but they moved here almost three years ago. Where else can you get a Grilled Pork sandwich (It's the #1) with pickled daikon and carrots, jalapeno, cilantro and mayo on a crispy French Baguette roll for $2?!! All other sandwiches are under $2. They also have hot food, Vietnamese salads and nibbles to take away, and of course, awesomely strong Vietnamese coffee. If I know I'll need a quick dinner that evening, I'll order a #1 and a spring roll ($0.50 each). Dinner for $2.50! Can't beat that! more

What can you say about a large Vietnamese sandwich filled with grilled seasoned pork (or tofu if you like), daikon radish, cucumber, jalapenos, cilantro, carrots and a special sauce? Yummy! And you cannot beat the price: $2! Saigon Deli is a tiny no frills deli in Little Saigon on Jackson St. It can get a little crowded at lunch, but the wait is never long and well worth it! more

This is not your typical sandwich! Vietnamese Sandwiches (Bon Mi) are chock-full of meat (grilled pork, chicken, ham, tofu, etc.) PLUS veggies (lightly pickled carrots and radish, cilantro, jalepeno). MMMMMMM - totally hits the spot! They are served on toasted French 10in baguettes. The perfect sandwich and, guess what, they only cost $1.50 to $2.00! This deli also has rice noodles with grilled meats and all the fixens (Bun) to go. AND salad rolls, egg rolls AND a hot buffet with plenty of meat, vegetables and tofu options with rice. There are tons of other options which I don't recognize and can't decipher - for the more adventurous. There is very little waiting, items are ordered by number and sandwiches are made to order. There is no seating so get your $2.00 lunch and go sit in the sun and enjoy. more

I’d like to give a shout out to my favorite Vietnamese sandwich joint, Saigon Vietnamese Deli. And if you’ve never had a Vietnamese sandwich, I’d like to call your attention to the concept. First off, a Vietnamese sandwich is a delicious byproduct of the former occupation of Vietnam by France. For their new colony, The French brought over fresh baked rolls and mayonnaise. The Vietnamese added pork or chicken, carrots, cucumber, peppers and cilantro. And thus, a sumptious sandwich was born. Over the years, I’ve ordered sandwiches at numerous delis in and around the ID. But for now, I always return to my go-to sandwich place, Saigon Vietnamese Deli for their grilled pork version. I’ve found their rolls to be generous in size and always fresh. The pork is not deli sliced, but grilled on a skewer. And the veggies are always crisp—which perfectly compliments the warm, chewy bun and hot pork meat. There is also a multitude of other lunch offerings of the chicken/pork/tofu stir fried with vegetables variety served alongside rice or noodles. They all look excellent if not a bit mysterious. And if the sandwiches weren’t so good, I would probably sample more of these dishes. Saigon Vietnamese Deli is located in a well-worn strip mall at 12th and Jackson. Parking can be difficult and there’s no place to sit—just enough room to order standing up with the other lunch regulars. Surprisingly, the space has grown by a third since I first started visiting. Every entree is very reasonably priced which has attracted a faithful homeless following. So if you find yourself near the ID with a cheap lunch craving, don’t let the rough edges deter you. An excursion to Saigon Vietnamese Deli for a Vietnamese sandwich is definitely worth your lunch hour. more
