This is my favorite specialty store in the Market--and not just because I am Italian! Their selection is almost overwhelming. The have all sorts of Italian imports--olive oils, canned items, pastas, even cookies. They also have a refrigerated case full of take-home goodies like lasagna, ravioli, gelato and stocks. The cheese counter is a sight to behold and has more selections than anywhere else I've seen. The also have salami, bacon, sausages, olives and all the makings of a perfect antipasto platter. The fresh ricotta is heavenly. The sales staff is really friendly and knowledgeable and you will probably need them. Upstairs they keep all of their wine, and the selection is decent for a shop of their size. Again, the staff is fantastic and will steer you toward the right bottle. You really can't go wrong with anything from this store. Also, their website has tons of recipes that will help you infuse some creativity into your meals. Shops like this make cooking and entertaining fun!

I love the Honey Hole. Their fries are perfect and every sandwich I've tried is delicious. I particularly enjoy their barbeque sandwiches. Definitely worth the trip to Capital Hill.
The ambience is dark, quirky and unique. It can get smoky, but that is the only drawback.
Happy hour is a great deal if you're looking for appetizers, but I recommend getting a sandwich!

Whenever I go to the Brooklyn Grinder I can't help myself, I have to order the Cajun Turkey. Their sandwiches, in the mid price range ($6-$7), always feed me for two meals, and probably provide one large, delicious meal for a big eater. The owner is very friendly. They advertize on their wall that they are not "fast food" and so patrons should be patient, but I have never waited more than five minutes. If you are really worried about time, you can call ahead and have your sandwich waiting for you.

SUBS is a great place to get a good hearty sandwich. The bread is so soft and baked to perfection. I love the honey wheat. They also prepare it to your liking with whatever spices or meat of your choosing. These sandwiches are huge so if your a light eater I suggest getting a half. The atmosphere is really mellow and laid back. You order, sit on a stool, read a paper, and wait for your awesome sandwich. I recommend going before or after lunch time. They get slammed during the afternoon.

Due to the urging of two friends, I recently signed up for a pre-natal yoga class at Eight Limbs with the famous Anne Phyfe. The class itself is excellent- just strenuous enough with great stretching, learning better breathing is key and awareness of the baby is always emphasized. Anne Phyfe is AMAZING-she sends a ripple of calm through all of her students with her voice and soft touch and excellent instruction. The studios are clean and airy and the overall vibe is just plain sweet.

I didn't have to wait in line because my dear friend picked up takeout for me! I've never actually been to this store so I'm just rating the food that I enjoyed.
I asked for a Matzo ball soup and sandwich. The Matzo ball soup (being takeout and all) came with two matzo balls. I was only expecting one. It was pretty tastey with lots of seasoning in it. So not your plain matzo ball . it was also a bit on the dense side. The chicken stock was full of carrots and celery and large chunks of chicken. Very hearty. My only complaint about it was that there was a top layer of chicken fat on my soup which made it a bit unappealing at first to eat. I dished it out with my spoon and drank the rest down to the last drop.
My sandwich was good too. I believe it was pastrami. Lots of cheese my sandwich - it looks like a couple of slices at least - and lots of meat. Somehow they managed to melt the cheese of the sandwish without toasting the bread. Not entirely sure how they accomplished that. Great sandwich though - packed with good flavours.
