I love this hotel. Right when you walk into the lobby, you're swept with the feeling for grandeur and romance. There's gold everywhere (I think i'm just particular to gold), and t...

This was my first time traveling to Las Vegas, my trip was booked as a package deal with 6 other family members, who have been to Las Vegas over 8 times.

Another expensive, boring, trendy place with nothing going for it 6/20/2007

Tabu is a joke. It's basically your typical formula for an upscale lounge: expensive drinks + a steep cover charge + pretentious staff + nothing unique or special (no good view, average dj, no good lighting) = this place. Plus, there is nowhere to sit unless you want to order bottle service for $400 a bottle. There were tons of empty tables so we sat at one, and then a tool bouncer kicked us out saying "the group who reserved this table just showed up." Ironically, the table remained empty for the rest of the night. I guess it's just their scam to try and manipulate you to order bottle service for $400 a bottle because the $20 cover charge and $10 drinks multiplied by the 4 people in our group was not enough money being spent to justify letting us sit. Furthermore, the VIP cards a promotoer gave my group at the MGM pool that day only work for girls. I went to the club with 3 extremely good looking girls and they still made me pay cover. Plus, there were a lot more guys than girls. The guys there were mostly sleazy used car salesmen types and scared the few hot girls in the club off with their pathetic pick up lines. Overall, this club is nothing special and a waste of money. There are MUCH better options in Vegas (ie Tao, Body English, Moon). The only reason I went in the first place was because we had free passes which weren't free for guys. I would never go back. Pros: we were staying in the MGM so location was a pro. Otherwise nothing Cons: staff, junior varsity crowd, more expensive than great vegas clubs more

MGM Grand is a good casino to stay and play. 6/5/2007

Seeing that it has been a year or so since anyone has reviewed this place and it is still fresh in my mind, I will give you my impression. We stayed in the West Wing which has been renovated in more modern, frosted glass appointments in the bathroom and very comfortable bedding and loft style furnishings. The place was a zoo and it took a while to check in, but everyone was friendly. The room was about $150 with tax on a weeknight during June. If you want a cheap room, stay at Excalibur, Circus Circus or the Monte Carlo. If you want expensive, stay at Wynn or the Bellagio. I believe MGM has the most rooms, slots and table games, but I could be wrong. The location is at the south end of the strip, across from New York, New York and within walking distance to the next major street, Flamingo. The restaurants are way overpriced, but they have French, Japanese, Mexican, Wolfgang Puck's, Seafood and a 24 hour cafe. There also is a Rainforest Cafe and the buffet, which I haven't tried. I prefer food made to order, but that doesn't cost $40 for an entree! The pool is awesome. There are 5 to choose from, including a winding loop that you can tube on while drinking a beer. Float rentals are currently $16, so you may want to wait until a few hours before they close, which is 8:00 (too early!) and grab a free one lying around. The Ka Cirque Du Soleil looks incredible, but we didn't catch it. After seeing a few others this trip, we saw the making of the set and the performers and now regret not paying a little more than we did for Mystiere at the Mirage. All in all, the MGM has a good balance of middle to high priced rooms, that are nice, especially the small, but nicely appointed West Wing, a plethora of expensive restaurants and great pools. You will have to walk around to get around and it is easy to go the wrong way, even with all of the signs. If you are on a tight budget, you may want to look elsewhere. Pros: Good vibe. Good restaurants. Great Pools. Good location. Cons: Expensive restaurants. Pool and rooms require good walking shoes! more

One of THE BEST Italian meals I've ever had 5/31/2007

With out a doubt, I had one of the most amazing Italian meals I have ever had while at Fiamma. GET THE SPAGHETTI!! You won't be disappointed. The description is: Fresh Cut Chitarra Spaghetti w/ Braised ?Kobe? Meatballs & Pomodoro....so simple, but one of the most flavorful things I have ever tasted...all of the ingredients combined just fit perfectly and exploded in my mouth.\r \r I am usually not compelled enough to write reviews on this site too often, but I had to make an exception for Fiamma. I highly recommend checking this restaurant out next time you are in Vegas. Yes, it's pricy, but in my opinion, worth every penny.\r \r Pros: Best Italian Food, Hip trendy atmosphere, accomodating for special orders Cons: Very expensive more

Disappointing 5/25/2007

I've seen 4 other Cirque shows in Vegas. This is the worst one in my opinion. For the price, your better off checking out any of the other 4. I agree with a previous post when it was stated that the performers were not very impressive. I usually leave Cirque with a sense of awe and amazement. That was not the case with this show. Fight scenes did not look real, they made shadow puppets, and the acrobatics were almost non-existent. The highlight is the costumes, the stage itself, and the two long-haired guys that were in the large spinning contraption towards the end. The soundtrack was also very well done. Pros: Stage & lighting Cons: Not quite on the same level as other Cirque shows more

""Italian fine dining... hold the fine and easy on the Italian."" 5/21/2007

I?ve never been to a place so hyped up, yet so disappointing. I went to this place after spending an amazing night out at Tao the night before. Needless to say, this place was below average. Where to start? We ordered drinks that seemingly took hours to come out, one by one. There were 2 waiters for our table and together, neither of them had a clue what was going on; one of them with a huge attitude and the other so servile that you couldn?t even ask him for a recommendation! Anything ordered was an ?excellent choice sir.? It took almost 2 hours to get our food; this is some of the blandest Italian food I have ever eaten in my life. The chicken was dry with no flavor. There is a spaghetti dish that is comical? you could do better buying a packet mix. Even the little things were not executed right; drinks with no lemon or lime, small requests like a cup of ice (asked for 4 times) received 15 minutes prior to getting the check. And the check! I have no problem paying up for good food, like Asia de Cuba or Nobu, but this was insane. If you know nothing about food, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else. If you go to hundreds of restaurants a year like I do, then you will find the highlight of this place to be the decor. We communicated much of this to the manager. Why isn?t this guy hitting the floor? I would urge him to see what?s happening in his restaurant. It was comical, him asking us to come back and give them another try ?on him.? We don?t need free meals, but we do need service and food that vaguely excites the palate. Until this place fires their chef, shapes up their wait staff and the manager actually cares about what?s happening in HIS restaurant, proceed with caution. If anyone reads this at Fiamma, maybe you should try to emulate this Italian restaurant: Spiaggia ? This is a Levy restaurant. This is true fine dining with flare, not the slop we were served at your establishment. How this place survives is beyond reason. Pros: Nice decor, cute bartenders etc. Cons: The food is mediocre at best with a hefty price tag, wait staff that don't care more

Best fine dining Italian restaurant on the strip! 4/21/2007

Fiamma has got to be one of, if not the best, fine dining Italian restaurant I've ever been to! Everything from the ambiance to the expansive wine list was fantastic. The wait staff was very attentive, knowledgeable and always very courteous. But the main focus of the night was definitely the food! I can?t even begin to describe how delicious everything we tasted that night was! We shared the Straccetti and Polipo as antipasti; the Raviolini and Agnolotti as pasta; and the Branzino and Tagliata as entrees. Everything from the Straccetti to the Tagliata was to die for! The flavors all complemented themselves and each other perfectly and the portion sizes were perfect. Bigger than what you would normally expect to get at a fine dining restaurant. All in all I was more than pleased with Fiamma and I will definitely recommend it to anyone who knows good food and expects to get it! Pros: Great food, great ambiance and great wines more

OK food, lousy service, way overpriced. 4/13/2007

The food was good; the fish was fresh and flavorful. The cooking wasn't outstanding - the sides we're somewhat plain and I found the raw appetizer sampler boring. The wine list was decent, but no sommolier in sight to recommend anything obscure. But what really ruined this restaurant for me was the ambience and service. The interior is noisy, with lots of hard surfaces, and waiters either running around in a hurry or standing with each other chatting and ignoring the customers. Although we had a reservation we had to wait half an hour for our table. The hostess then came and retrieved us from the bar so that we could stand and watch while they cleaned and set the table. We ordered one of each of the 8 oysters for everyone at the table to start, and they joust brought them out in a big bowl instead of indiviual bowls and never identified which oyster was which. At $4 apiece that't the least they could do. We never could get our bread basket refilled despite repeated requests- at one point one of my guests held the basket above his head in the hope that a passing waiter might notice. I found myself constantly refilling my guests wine glasses as they would run dry and no waiter would come by and fill them. Worse, once a waiter did refill my red wine glass and managed to spill the red wine into my white wine as well as water. At $150/bottle, there goes a $30 glass of white with nary an apology.\r \r The food is pleasant but way overpriced and the servcie is worse than at most TGIFridays. I will not return. more

Never judge a book by it's cover! 2/24/2007

My husband and I enjoy fine dining and don?t mind paying for it; however, we were disappointed with the cuisine quality at Shibuya. The beef tartar was flavorful but the sushi was mediocre at best. If you want good sushi this is NOT the place to spend your cash! The ambience was incredible but unfortunately that was the restaurant?s best feature. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Expensive more

Par for the Cirque 2/20/2007

I will preface this by saying I participate in combat arts and I grew up watching various Cirque du Soleil shows. That being said, this show was very average, for Cirque. I was more entranced by the sets, costuming, and lighting than by most of the show itself. In fact, parts of the show were serious yawners. Non-martial arts fanatics may be impressed by the sloppy Wushu and stylized fights, which comments from the exiting crowd seemed to indicate. I wasn't. I wasn't at all impressed by the physical abilities of the performers, not when the very traditional Cirque show Mystere is still running, and IMHO, superior in that aspect. The music was good and very rock influenced, which is a nice change of pace from the usual ethereal choral base. If choosing a Cirque show to see in Vegas, my recommendation would still go to O at Bellagio. more

Great service but the food was dissapointing 2/15/2007

I expected a lot since I know Micheal Minna is an awesome chef however I was dissapointed by the food. Everything was extremely salty and the hamachi appetizer was very fishy. The oysters however were very good and fresh. \r \r The bill came out to $250 for the two of us and we didnt even have any dessert. It was a good experience but I would never go back. more

They are trying but nothing like PURE... 2/11/2007

Nice place but pretty weak crowd. The bouncer made me pay $20 to get right in and I was with two hotties! Anyway we were at PURE earlier and if you can handle crowds and get on the list it's light years better. more

Great! Not your ordinary seafood restaurant.... 1/8/2007

Dinner was pretty good although a little salty (seafood tends to be anyways). We had the prix fixe and unfortunately by the time we got to the final steak/shrimp 'taster entree', we were stuffed. What a shame, because they were really good. Appetizers were OK. Sea bass was quite good. Overall, it's pretty pricey (~$250 for two, sans drinks). It's one of those places worth trying once but with so many options in Vegas, I'd probably try another restaurant over coming back.\r \r Service was excellent. Pros: elegant Cons: pricey more

poor service, fatty steak, not for people who can't climb 12/29/2006

We ate at Diego midweek and the food left a lot to be desired. The service was also very poor. The server introduced herself, took our order, and we didn't see her again until our child fell off the tall stool they consider a chair, when she appeared to ask how everything was. We started with Guacamole which was good, but we didn't have enough chips to eat all of it and asked for more, but they never came. We ended up finishing the guacamole using a spoon. My husband ordered Carne Asada which was so full of fat that he ate about an eighth of it. There was fat throughout. The server didn't serve it, someone else did. Our daughter fell off the tall barstool they use at the tables and spilled her drink on the floor. We caught the server and told her the drink spilled and she said she'd send someone to mop but never did. I ended up using all our napkins to mop it so no one would fall. When the server finally came to our table, my husband told her about the fat in the steak and she offered to get him another one, but we were already through and waiting for the bill. We had already eaten the guac with a spoon since they didn't bring the chips we asked for, mopped up the spill and got disgusted with the service. The total came to $105 and we left only $110 since the service was so lousy and the quality of the food was so poor. We always leave at least 20% but didn't at Diego because of the service. The server never did actually serve us anything at all. She didn't get us anything we asked for and we would not eat there again. The server probably doesn't even realize how poor her service was.The rice was undercooked as well. I had a Diego margarita which cost $12 but wasn't as good as the ones I can make with Cuervo and Margaritaville mix. All in all, we were highly disappointed and will stick with visiting Wolfgang Puck's restaurants, which never disappoint. Pros: The orange salsa was tasty Cons: The service, The steak, The seating more

Avoid the Sirloin Steak 12/20/2006

I agree with several others here that the staff was very professional and the service was great. I ordered the \r Sirlion, i believe around 16 oz, and it was presliced when brought to my table. I asked for it to be medium well, not very pink inside. Well, it was served more or less like a bright red Prime Rib so I sent it back to cook it a bit longer. When they brought it back it was cooked as I requested, however, the quality of the meat was not much better than a tough London broil that I would buy at the local supermarket. The shrimp cocktail was excellent and the green beans average, for $10. \r I probably ordered the wrong steak, probably should have stayed with the Filet Mignon. The steak was supposed to be the highlight of the meal so I must say it was rather dissappointing. \r The jazz music was good. more

Nice large hotel 11/28/2006

We spend a few nights here in a suite and we really liked our room. It's a nice hotel with nice lounges and plenty of restaurant choices. The buffet was dissapointing and there isn't much of video poker, but other than that it's a nice place to stay. Pros: rooms, service, lounges Cons: buffet more

Magical Red 11/28/2006

I loved that everything in here is RED! The music rocks and the bartenders and waitresses were really friendly and easy to talk to. Good drink service and an overall neat place to hang out with a special someone or a group of friends. Pros: Decor, music, service more
