Best

Very nice place for a date, for parties or just a place to take your family. Has an amazing view of the Texas sunset.

Worst

Although the food and service were less than impressive, the view of Lake Travis is well worth a visit. A friend and I went just before sunset and it was unbelievable. Pros: ...

Needs Better Management 7/29/2007

Before leaving for the restaurant we checked the hours on their website - which still say 11 pm on Saturdays during the summer. However, when we arrived at 10 pm we were told that they were no longer seating. Upon informing the host that the hours say 11 on their web site, she replied that her manager told her to not seat anyone else. The back and forth continued for a bit as we had driven 25 minutes to get there. We eventually ignored her and walked to the deck anyway. We found a waitress wrapping-up her shift who was willing to serve us a drink, which is all we wanted. Apparently posted business hours don't matter when the manager needs to get off early..... more

Sunet Capital of the world 7/13/2007

If that is not self explanitory than I do not know what to say. You do not go to the Oasis for food, you go there for the sunsets and drinks. This place gets 5 stars for the sunsets. If you have ever paid attention to the reviews of the Oasis than you know the food is sub-par but the view is EXCELLENT. Sorry, have to knock those who knock the Oasis for food. BTW, the fish taco's arent to bad. Sangria Rita is pretty good. Sure the service could be better, wait staff are not the most attentive and are forgetful, but, once again, you are there for the sunset not service and food. If you want a good dinner head someplace down 620 or go into Austin. This is not 4 star food so do not go there expecting that. Pros: Great view, great drinks Cons: Pricey but worth it for the view more

Very rude GM - Clay - slow service and overpriced food 5/18/2007

Only good thing about this place is the view. CLAY - the GM, is rude, curt and inconsiderate. The food is below average and completely overpriced. The servers are over-worked and service is horrible. Pros: view Cons: slow service, RUDE managers more

horrible food, customer service, management 5/15/2007

the only thing the oasis has going for it is the view, someone needs to build a competing restaurant because this one is terrible. the food is horrible and way ocerpriced. the manager, Clay is one of the most unhappy people i have ever met. he should NOT be working with people. i don;t understand how this man continues to work there. he is a huge disservice to the restaurant. Pros: the view Cons: food, price, management more

Great for a romantic margarita at sunset, not for dinner 3/21/2007

I'm an Austin local and everyone who lives here knows the truth about the Oasis: when you have friends in town visiting you MUST take them here for a sunset cocktail, but NOT for dinner. The food and service has always way-below-par for Austin standards but that's not why we keep coming back to the Oasis. The drive up there is beautiful, the views at sunset are great, it's a romantic place to stop and enjoy the lake especially when the weather is not so perfect. But please don't mistakenly take your friends here for a meal or you will be showing them a poor representation of what Austin food, hospitality and friendly people are all about. more

Overrated 1/28/2007

I recently moved to Austin, and I have had the Oasis recommended to me by many people including our realtor. Upon having visiting family in town, I thought it would be a good place to show what Austin has to offer. We were greatly disappointed with the lack of service, food, and atmosphere. We went on a Friday evening and chose to sit inside since it was chilly outside. Initially, we were unsure on what level the restaurant was located and when we finally reached the third level, we weren't greeted by anyone. The room was full of senior citizens, so we thought it may have been a private party of some sort. We went over to the bartendar and asked him if we were in the right place. He stated that we were and we needed to seat ourselves. I felt like I was walking into a cafeteria such as Luby's. The view was beautiful but did not compensate for everything else it lacked. The menu was comparable to any ""burger joint"" but the food was unappetizing. It was very bland and unsavory. The best thing we ordered were the nachos, but it's hard to mess those up. Pros: View Cons: Service, Food, Atmosphere more

Fun place for drinks & great to bring out of towners 1/26/2007

The oasis does not have the best food in town, but it has the best view. Beer is served in a can which I hate (gets warm realy quick) but somehow I find myself returning due to the live music & views. Great place to bring out of town guests. Kids like it, too. Pros: Views & live music Cons: They serve beer in the can! UGH! more

Typical Austin: decent view, horrible food, placid service 1/12/2007

An investor needs to tear this place down and build a restaurant that serves edible food. The view is decent but the atrocious food and dead service makes it noteworthy to avoid. Do they really think its location is that special? Seriously, please; no excuse justifies Oasis' existence. Booooooo. You may be in a trendy city, but it's not hip nor worldclass. Austin, you seriously need some culinary lessons as a whole. Cons: food, service, location, prices more

Beautiful View, Not A Great Menu 8/12/2006

The Oasis is the place to visit only for the view. If you're looking for an elaborate dinner and good food, this is not the place to go. The drinks weren't too great either. My friend reordered her frozen margarita b/c it was too weak and not frozen (watery). It came back just as bad as the first one. Pros: Amazing views. Cons: Blah food, weak drinks, inattentive waitstaff. more

I Loved It!! 8/12/2006

Well, I don't understand all the reviews, maybe it was just a bad night for you guys. I went with three of my friends a couple days ago around 4 pm. It wasn't busy at all and we were told to seat ourselves. We had a great view of the lake and the food was right on. Everyone loved their dish, and it wasn't expensive so don't expect 5 star cuisine. So, for the price it was right. The people were nice, the view was great, pretty good food and drinks. It was a good time!! :) Pros: View, Good Service. Cons: I can't think of any. more

A good time. 7/23/2006

A friend and I went to eat there on a Thursday around 8:00pm. We actually got a table on the patio next to thier best table. After reading some of the other reviews, I was worried about ordering dinner from their menu. We both ordered thier crusted Talapia and it was suprisingly good. The waiter who served us was very friendly, but when we first got there we had no idea where to go and no one was in a hurry to help us. So after looking like idiots for a few minutes, we finally found someone to seat us, because for us it was not seat yourself. * Here's also a note for the ladies, think twice about wearing high heels, my heel got stuck in between the boards and ruined my shoe. But it is definately worth going to because watching the sunset so close was worth all the driving and the ruined shoe. Pros: View, Food Cons: Service, Distance more

User review by el_greazy 5/9/2006

My g/f and I went for her birthday dinner, and she absolutely loved it. The view of the lake at sunset was absolutely gorgeous, and we couldn't have had better timing or better seats. People complain about the food, but I couldn't really complain with my hamburger or my g/f's quesadillas... I'd imagine that if you're going for ""high class cuisine"" you'd best avoid the place. Stick with the basic food & drinks and you won't go wrong. The wait staff was friendly and quick. Pros: Amazing view, Friendly staff, Moderately priced Cons: Somewhat of a drive more

Worst Customer Service ever 5/3/2006

My girlfriend and I spent 30 minutes driving out to Oasis hoping to watch the sunset and celebrated our anniversary. Instead of a lovely evening, we were confronted with the absolute worst customer service I have ever witnessed. After being told that the outside tables were ""first come, first serve"" we waited till a table became available and quickly sat down. At that point, the General Manager came over and kicked us off the table in a manner that can only be described in curse words. I have never been treated so poorly in my life and WILL NEVER BE BACK. Until they get a new General Manager, do not waste your time at Oasis. more

Perfect view but rude reception 1/8/2005

We went in this Sunday around 2:00pm. Restaurant was almost empty. We asked if we can seat outside. Outside, since it was almost empty, we requested specific table with the view which we do like. But receptionist refused to do it because 2 tables which we requested was for 6 persons and it was just 2 of us. I understand that this 2 tables can be used more profitable for restaurant, but for 30 minutes while we have been there they still were available. View was almost perfect, but romantic mood was broken completely. Pros: Perfect view more

An Austin Institution 9/21/2004

A must visit on your visit to Austin. Go to watch the sunset and sip margaritas. Food is merely average however, so this would be a great place to go before or after your main meal for the night. As a romantic view spot, it can't be beat. Pros: Beautiful View, Romantic, Outdoor bar more

Best Hamburger Ever!!! 9/19/2004

While many people are not pleased with the Oasis, I have to say that they must not be eating the right items. Steer clear of elaborate dishes and stick to the basics. The Oasis has the best hamburger I have ever had. They use homemade buns that are slightly sweet and absolutely delicious. The burgers are exceptionally cooked and thick (I recommend Medium). You can add mushrooms, bacon, cheese, quacamole, grilled onions... Also, their mashed potatos are wonderful - I usually substitute those for the fries. The crab cake appetizer is also very yummy. And they have tons, TONS of seating. Pros: View, Hamburgers, VIEW more

Great location w/ surprising food 6/6/2004

Everyone knows that the view of Lake Travis is amazing, and I was not disappointed. But I was rather surprised by the food. My wife and I both had mexican dishes and were pleasantly surprised. Was it great...no, but I have had much much worse mexican food at places that call themselves mexican restraunts. Everyone around us seemed to be enjoying themselves and our waiter was good. Pros: View, Food more

Tex-Mex with a View 12/21/2003

Great little place to enjoy some drinks and sit out on the patio and enjoy the view. The food was good, but the view was spectacular. I forgot that I was in Texas. Pros: Good parking, View of Lake more

Don't go to eat! 10/20/2003

Good view. Average service. Bad Food. Granted they have tried numerous times to improve their cuisine, but The Oasis still puts minimal effort into your dining experience. Go for drinks and the sunset! Pros: View, Deck Cons: Service, Food more

Lowdown on the Oasis 10/13/2003

Oasis is highly overrated. The food and drinks are overpriced and quality is mediocre. The only thing this place has going for it are the views of lake Travis and the sunsets are magnificent. The service leaves quite a bit to be desired. Pros: views of the lake, views for the sunset Cons: overrated, mediocre food/drinks, poor service more
