I like Austin a lot (I live here) but this boat tour is just. I do not recommend it. The customer service is poor and overall is just not worth the money. Their website makes it look like a nice time, but my experience was far from it.

Alamo Drafthouse is perhaps best known for the fact that they serve beer (and food) in the theatre while you watch the movie. You can order beer by the bucket, and the waitstaff will come by to pick up your order, settle the tab, etc. in discreet ways during the movie. Alamo is also home of Mister Sinus Theatre, where a comedy troupe of three people does skits that are simultaneously performed with movie classics, such as Pretty in Pink or Dirty Dancing. Mister Sinus is extremely funny and sells out rather quickly. The only downside to Alamo is that sometimes the theatre smells kind of like feet.

The Arbor is a good independent movie theater right off the highway in North Austin. Although it's not big, it isn't cramped and has an excellent selection of movies from off the beaten path. Lots of hipster types frequent here, and although parking is somewhat limited on the weekends, you shouldn't have any trouble during the week.

As the name describes, Cheapo discs is a 2nd hand store for used compact discs. They carry a great selection of discs other than Vanilla Ice and Paula Abdul (not that those are bad cd’s or anything). Thankfully the employees are smart enough not to buy back crappy cd’s or sell 30 of a sub par artist. This store reminds me of the one in the movie High Fidelity I've purchased at least 5 CD's from them in the past few months. Look to cheapo disks to get some of those artists you wish you had in your collection at a fraction of the cost new. Thankfully they are located by some other very cool eclectic and austiny stores

Encore has a very diverse selection of movies to rent. They just don't have a whole lot of each one. They also offer DVDs, Music, and even music-related clothing for sale. The selection and intimate feeling of this place make it a winner in my book. I definitely recommend at least stopping by.

I have been here alot and I really like it. If you get a chance there is also a museum nearby for you to see great stuff from history. This movie theatre is great because you don't have to worry about seeing a movie that is not fit for kids. All of their movies are awesome, great images!

More
The Austin Children's Museum is a good place for the younger ones to explore, early in the morning when they offer the baby bloomers program. During the day, the museum is really load and filled with kids from daycares and schools. They are very hands on, and the exhibits allow children to explore on their own, and have some help by the museum staff if they need it. It is a good place to spend a hot summer day with the grandkids too.

You will be much happier staying at home watching Comedy Central. Not only do they FORCE you to buy drinks, but they glare at you if you just want to order soda -- despite your religious beliefs or status as an alcoholic or recovering alcoholic. The opening comedian and main headliner talked about only ONE subject...S-E-X. So if you are innocent, you won't understand or appreciate the jokes.

Barton Creek Cinema is near the Barton Creek Mall (but not inside it), so that's how it gets this name I suppose. The theater is about the average, but it does smell very bad inside. The smell seemed to be from the humidness of the air and oldness of the buildings. I definitely think they should renovate it!
