Best

Very nice place for a date, for parties or just a place to take your family. Has an amazing view of the Texas sunset.

Worst

Although the food and service were less than impressive, the view of Lake Travis is well worth a visit. A friend and I went just before sunset and it was unbelievable. Pros: ...

Great view but nasty food 8/13/2008

If you wanna go to this place because the view is beautiful you right!..............but the food is the worse food you are going to taste in ur life. more

One of a kind view 8/2/2008

I think I need to stop checking the reviews on citysearch - as I'm afraid I'd never try anything since almost all the reviews are negative. Same thing here - I wasn't sure what we were getting into going to The Oasis on a weekend for a nice lunch. We were pleasantly surprised that we walked right in, got a nice table w/ a decent view and our server was nice. The food isn't gourmet by any means, but that's okay - it was good. I just wouldn't plan on going here for an ""occasion"" or a holiday as I'm sure it is totally packed. Overall, we had a nice time and even the kiddos behaved for a change. more

Great Experience! 7/29/2008

Although I don't live anywhere close to Lake Travis, I still enjoy taking a trip out to The Oasis for the spectacular view--not a bad seat in the place! It is even more breath-taking with the renovations. The food is much more enjoyable since they have a new chef. My personal favorite are the piratas topped off with a mango margarita:) I also thought the staff was more than helpful and was quite efficient. I would recommend The Oasis to anyone!! Pros: THE VIEWS!!!! Cons: can get crowded-might have a wait...but always within reason! more

Food and entertainment--Two for the price of one! 7/22/2008

Oftentimes a restaurant has either a great ambiance OR great food, but the Oasis gives you both. As if the fantastic, destination-worthy view were not enough, the margaritas are great, the food is good, and the prices are reasonable (ok, drink prices may be a tad high, but when you consider the view that you get with it, it is reasonable). The waitstaff is skilled at propping and rotating umbrellas to keep you in the shade without forfeiting your view of the lake and horizon. This place is a MUST for bringing out of towners! Pros: plentiful parking, great views from anywhere Cons: are there any? more

JEALOUS LIES? I THINK SO! 7/20/2008

Who says that the food here is bad? Fools! Who says the drinks here are weak? Fools! Who says the service here is unatentive and slow? Fools! I have reviewed the reviews and strongly disagree with any rating under 5 stars. Anyone that has had a bad experience at this establishment must simply be deeply unhappy with themselves. As a patron of the Oasis and Lake Travis herself, I am deeply moved to tell of the wounderous enjoyment the Oasis has to offer. The food is devine, the drinks are rejuvinating, and the veiw is breath taking! LIVE WELL, LAUGH OFTEN, LOVE MUCH!!!!!! These are words to live by my friend. The truth is engraved upon the doorstep. Let your soul flourish as you bask in sheer bliss with your hand on a cold drink and your fork in a masterpeice at the Oasis. Only a FOOL would say otherwise! Pros: Impecable service, mouthwatering food, drinks even the gods envy, the best sunset you could ever see Cons: only one salsa per chip basket more

Beautiful view - mediocre food 7/9/2008

I have been going to The Oasis since before it burned down and even with the re-vamp on their menu and the redesign of the entire resturant it is still mediocre. The view is worth the trip, even if you go for drinks and appetisers. The food on the other hand, I have never found myself saying, ""yum"". It isn't gross, it is just missing a wow factor. The beef fajitas are tough and enchilladas are so-so. Pros: A sunset view like no other, ambience, great drinks Cons: Food is mediocre more

It's like a James Bond movie setting 6/25/2008

This was my first time at the Oasis but certainly not the first time at a restaurant looking into Lake Travis. We really enjoyed our dinner and had a great time with the views. It was like something out of a Bond movie. The views were spectacular and the crowd was having a fun time. The ambiance is definitely great. Pros: View of Lake Travis, Ambience Cons: For that price nothing comes to mind more

The absolute BEST!!! 6/19/2008

I love the fact that the actual wait staff posted a comment that reflects, exactly, in great detail, a perfect image of a day in the life of the ""Oasis wait staff"" Totally hilarious!! I completely agree 100% I wish people in the world would put them selves in the other persons shoes before they judge or ask for something stupid... To the wait staff, I love you guys and can honestly say that I can not relate to any of the senarios. I have always had a great time there!! Pros: I can't comment on the margaritas, I don't drink them..... Not sure that u can make a reservation.... more

It all evens out. 6/19/2008

This place has its days. I frequent the restauarant due to the fact that I live right down the road. IN my experience, the employees (from management to the guys that deliver the food) are great, the food has gotten better, and I don't recommend this place on the weekends. Other than that, it's fantastic. more

Busy, but beautiful. 6/19/2008

I guess I should've known not to go to a place like this on a weekend. It was really busy, but worth the wait. Food was better than I remember and the drinks are always fabulous. more

Like a Beautiful Woman with Gastric Distress 5/18/2008

I have given this restaurant many chances given the obvious appeal of the scenery. The staff -- mostly college age -- seems to have no idea how to do their jobs. Even when the restaurant is not busy, they will attempt to seat a party of 10 at two small plastic round tables with only 7 seven chairs. You will undoubtably complain about seating, service, food, or something while you are there. Be prepared for an unsympathetic response from any level of personnel. Food and drinks are average at best and definitely over priced. It is a shame that this place has the potential of a supermodel and yet smells like a dock worker at the end of a hard day. more

okay food, great views! 5/17/2008

this place is not somewhere you go to get amazing food. it is place for great brunch views on the lake, and memorable sunsets. don't go here expecting perfect service because i've never had it, but the food is good and the people are nice. its a relaxed place great for the family during the day, or a date at night. Pros: views Cons: you get what you pay for more

WOW! WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED! FOOD IS NOTHING TO WRITE HOME ABOUT! 5/17/2008

SO, I AM PAGING THROUGH THE REVIEWS OF THE OASIS ON THIS SITE AS I PREPARE TO WRITE MY OWN. I NOTICE THAT THE RECENT NEGATIVE POSTS ARE FOLLOWED UP WITH POSTS THAT ARE SO FILLED WITH DELUSIONS OF GRANDURE THAT ONLY THE OWNER OF THE RESTURANT COULD HAVE WRITTEN THEM HIMSELF/HERSELF TO TRY AND KEEP HIS/HER RATINGS ON THE HIGH SIDE. PLEASE LOOK AT THE POST PRIOR TO THIS ONE AND THE FEW BEFORE THAT. NO PERSON THAT I HAVE TALKED TO LOVES THE NEW OASIS NOR DO THEY LOVE IT SO MUCH THAT THEY WOULD WRITE A POST TRYING TO CONVINCE US THAT IT IS THE MOST FANTASTIC RESTURANT IN THE WORLD. NO PERSON WOULD EVER POST, ""It was fantastic!!! It was, and will always be, one of my most memorable experiences"". YOU REMEMBER BIRTHDAY'S AND HOLIDAY'S NOT A CRAPPY MEAL WITH THE WORST SERVICE IN THE WORLD! I FIND IT VERY PATHETIC TO TRY AND CONVINCE US THAT THIS RESTURANT IS A FINE DINING EXPERIENCE! I WITNESSED 3 OTHER TABLES IN MY VICINITY SEND THEIR FOOD BACK FOR ONE REASON OR ANOTHER. I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS MANY TABLES SEND BACK FOOD IN ALL MY 45 YEARS OF EATING AND CERTAINLY NEVER IN ONE SITTING! SO IN LIEU OF MY TERRIBLE REVIEW OF THIS EYESORE ON LAKE TRAVIS. I WILL LEAVE YOU WITH: GO TRY THE OASIS FOR YOURSELF, YOU'LL NEVER GO BACK! DON'T LET THESE REVIEWS FOOL YOU. GIVE IT A SHOT AND ENJOY THE WORST SERVICE EVER AND THE MOST BLAND UNEVENTFUL FOOD ON THE LAKE. BY THE WAY, BEFORE YOU GO CHECK THE POST ON THIS MANAGER GUY, CLAY IS HIS NAME I BELIEVE. IT SOUNDS LIKE HE IS A REAL PIECE OF WORK! Pros: IF YOU WANT TO GET DRUNK AND ACT LIKE AN IDIOT, THIS IS YOUR PLACE! Cons: SEE HOW MANY TIMES YOU CAN SEND YOUR FOOD BACK. IT'S LIKE A GAME FOR THEM! more

Best place in Austin for a nice relaxing time, good food, great service, and fantastic view!!! 5/13/2008

My precious son and precious daughter-in-law, took my daughter and I to The Oasis for a Mother's Day brunch during our weekend visit, May 11, 2008. It was fantastic!!! It was, and will always be, one of my most memorable experiences. The service was superb, the breakfast fare was delicious (...I had the green chili omelet and fruit and my daughter said the burger was really good, and we both thought the chips and salsa were really good), and we beheld the most beautiful view while listening to a very talented guitarist playing soft music in the background while we caught up on all the family trivia. The only thing that could have made it more perfect would have been the rest of my family being there. It was almost like being on the Italian Riviera... the water was such a beautiful color... the boats were beautiful on the water... the sun was shining... the temperature was perfect... and the company could not have been better! God has blessed me well to be the mother of such a fine, fine family. I counted myself very blessed that morning to be among the fortunate few of this world to be in such a fine place as The Oasis on such a day. I am grateful to those who have the vision to build such a place for our enjoyment. Thank you to The Oasis, and thank you to my sweet family. It's mushy, I know, but it's the truth. Pros: Everything was great, the perfect spot in Austin! Cons: Can't say the parking was bad, we used the valet! more

Bad Food, Worse Service, Worst Management 5/12/2008

Go for one drink at sunset. For this you will walk from a stadium parking lot, wait at least 30 minutes, and leave with a hefty tab. You can always wait in the over-priced gift shop. The general manager, Clay, should not be in the service industry. He is nasty. Pros: View Cons: Everything else more

**The Worst Customer Service Ever** 5/11/2008

Mothers Day 2008: We show up and the wait is insane. Granted it is Mother's Day. But, being a handicapped person it would be nice if they could find a place for us to sit while we wait. Finally, after being called for our table, obviosly we are a handicapped party they walk us down 4 flights of stairs. Where is the elevator? We sit down to watch the sunset and order our appetizers. We then order our food 5 minutes after that. After finishing 2 bowls of chips out comes the food, but no appetizers. While we ordered shrimp tacos we got fish tacos. While we ordered beef fajitas we got something entirely else. Not even 2 minutes later our appetizers come out and the fish tacos are taken away leaving 1 person in the party with nothing to eat since our entres we here. We ask to speak with the manager after several young waiters and food runners come over to apologize. Amazingly one of them said ""this happens all the time, I have seen so many unhappy people leave here lately."" CLAY, the manager comes to the table and in the most arrogant, unsympathetic voice says, ""What seems to be the problem here."" There was no ""I'm sorry"", there was no, ""I have spoken to the staff, what can I do for you to make this better?"" CLAY, the manager, was rude inconsiderate to the chain of events that had put a damper on our lovely Mother's Day evening and offered us to LEAVE or to take a discount for the appetizers. Yes, he said would you like to cancel your orders and leave or let me take care of the appetizers. WOW, I said to myself. So, maybe CLAY is stressed out but, wait a second, aren't we the customer's that were just trying to eat there food and enjoy their ambience? Needles to say, we packed our food up and left the resturant to go home and eat by the pool in a much more relaxing and uncombative environment. Well, the food was very poor needless to say and our evening was all but ruined with the exception of laughing it off and deciding to never go there again! Pros: Views Cons: Horrible service, Horrible management, For a rich man like Bo, he needs to much better with his money! more

Beautiful location but a substandard restaurant 4/23/2008

This was my first visit to the Oasis, but it will also be my last. Pros: View Cons: Expensive, poor food, poor service more

Great view, below average food 11/2/2007

The view is wonderful especially at sunset. The food is overpriced and below average in quality. I think if I wanted to enjoy the view or the music I would eat at home and then go for drinks. Hopefully the food will get better once they move into the main building. I hope the prices wont go up any higher to pay for that building because at this point the food isn't that great. Pros: view Cons: food and prices more

Less than spectacular views, and even lesser service... 10/18/2007

After living here several years, I still can't quite understand what all the hype is about; the menu selection is reasonably priced, I'll give it that much--- but the views really aren't that impressive, maybe I should have gone at sunset, I don't know. The number of tables that have really nice views are probably about 10-20, so if you're not at one of them, then you're just somewhat in their way as you leave your table trying to get that somewhat lackluster view. Tables are situated so that they're all along the perimeter of the deck, so it's not designed at all with the collective participant/consumer in mind. more

Not a pleaant experience 10/13/2007

The ""Oasis"" is anything but. I have lived in Austin for 30 years and have visited the the Oasis many times over the years before it burned down. I knew the food was not great and overpriced, but the sunset view is always wonderful. My wife and I decided to give the new rebuilt restaurant a try around 6 PM on a Saturday. We were totally shocked. The restaurant went from something recognizable to a gigantic complex that looked more like a shopping center. The nearest parking was in a football size parking lot two blocks away from the front door that was packed. The restaurant looked like Grand Central Station at rush hour. We never did get a table to see the sunset. The food was still the average quality and presentation. But the worse part was the staff. They were rude and totally disinterested in the people that were paying their salary. The obvious problem to me is they have so much business they don't care who comes back. The lack of courtesy can only come from the management who is rolling in too much business. Be rest assured, we won't be back. Pros: The view, if you can a decent table Cons: food, location, and attitude of the management and staff more
