This place has the best margaritas I've ever had (house rita on the rocks with salt).
Also, they have happy hour every day from 4-6, when all appetizers are half price (in addition to drink discounts). Three apps between two people is a meal. So great food, great drinks, and a good price.
If you do want something off of their regular dinner menu, nothing on it has ever disappointed - the Relleno del Mar is an exceptional treat.
Pros: Best happy hour in town, Best margaritas in Austin

The Osis is the place you want to be if you are looking for a magnificent sunset! At sunset the bell rings and the crowd cheers. It is a very unique and impressive atmoshere on lake travis! Overlooking the lake and the many boaters, great for kids too! Drinks are good food ok, but worth every bit of the travel to lake travis. If you go no where else go here!
Pros: Awesome Sunset, Great Ambience!
Cons: OK Food

This is a friendly decorative restaurant. Its quaint and has a lot of history in the building its in. The food is delicious. There is a lot to choose from. I loved the Taco salad. They offer a breakfast, lunch or dinner menu.
If you prefer outdoors you can sit in an enclosed patio with that has a a sidewalk cafe setting and enjoy the weather.
The staff is very friendly and courteous.

Guero's is so yummy! The food and service are well worth the wait (which never is too long due to the efficiency of the staff). I highly recommend the queso flameado and shrimp fajitas. Everyone seems to be happy at Guero's! .... maybe it's the margaritas, I don't know...
Pros: It's all good

This is truly one of my top 5 restaurants in any city I have been in. The food is spectacular, the location is awesome, the drinks are fantastic and the atmosphere is fun. Plus its a good place to buy a "Keep Austin Weird" t-shirt. You really can't go wrong with the food here, every dish I have had is good. If you are a fajita person, then you can't go wrong here, and they have several different kinds that are unique. The drinks are excellent, and I would recommend the Texas Martini. Where this restaurant shines though is its deck that extends over Lake Austin. Its great for lunch when you can see the full lake, but its even better at night when you can watch the sun go down, and see the lights across the lake at night. It makes for an ideal setting for a meal. The deck is heated so it is good year round and you don't have to worry about getting cold while you are on it. Parking is a little tricky, but there is a large lot up the hill and across the street. There is a little shuttle that is available for those that fear they can't take the hill. If you are visiting Austin then you would be best served adding this restaurant to your list of stops.
Pros: Great Food, Location, and Drinks
Cons: Parking

So, barring all the Austinites that will cringe at what I'm abou to say.. here it goes... I lived in Dallas <gasp!> for 6 years and moved to Austin about 9 months ago. Dallas may be an Austinite's nightmare, but Dallas has great restaurants in spades... I have been looking for something to match my Tex-Mex requirements here, and Vivo more than delivered.
After almost missing the turn in to get to the street before Vivo, you arrive in the dusty parking lot that usually doesn't have any spaces. Plenty of parking on the streets around there, so no matter (and, like Dallas, Austin is becoming inundated with those annoying valet parking services in the lot that want you to pay to have them park your car 10' away). I'll park in the street, thanks.
You walk in the back of the restaurant, up cascading decks with room for anywhere from one to several tables. They are each surrounded by plants and, in the winter, insulated and heated with portable heaters. It is very pretty out there at night, and is my preferred spot for dining. They have very small lights that keep your table intimate even if you have another table nearby. Inside the restaurant it is very bright and colorful and inviting, but I haven't eaten in there yet.
My party of 5 was seated in the deck area, and we all ordered margaritas. They were some of the finest examples of margaritas I've ever had. Very very good. Chips and salsa were served. I prefer the fresh salsa rather than that 'fire roasted' kind, which Vivo has. Oh well, it keeps me from eating too many chips and getting full early. For my meal I got the verde chicken enchiladas. They were divine. A lot of places don't do good chicken enchiladas. This place does. The dish was very flavorful and done right with a good kick too it as well.
At the end of the meal, they gave the girls at our table a rose. It was a nice touch to a great meal. Highly recommended! Now, if I could just find great Thai....
Pros: Great atmosphere (noisy but in a good way), beautiful deck area, great food, service, drinks
Cons: Seemingly only serve one kind of salsa, the 'fire roasted' kind...
