Great place to start the weekend 9/25/2007

Great food, awesome atmosphere, pretty good in terms of price (worth it!). So many great options on the menu. I went with a group of people so we picked a bunch of items and shared them. I would recomend going with a group so you can experience a little of everything from the menu. I would highly recomend this place to anyone! Pros: Double Happy Hour! w00t! Cons: Parking, but hey - it's downtown. more

I love the Delhi 9/16/2007

I can not tell you much about the restaurant because I was at the bar.I will say that I had great time at bar with all the mixed drinks they make, the best part was the happy hour and the free food (apt) at the bar, it was aw some. I will be back again tomorrow more

An oasis in downtown 8/21/2007

We went on a week day since a friend told us that the place is packed on the weekends. Apparently they have a new menu. There were plenty of vegetarian options. All of the dishes come with rice and nan bread. We also ordered their mango ice cream for dessert. It's homemade and really yummy. We ate so much that we could not finish what we ordered. Also the place was cheaper compared to the other restaurants we ate at in San Francisco. It was definitely worth the BART ride to visit here. Pros: Lovely atmosphere Cons: parking more

Will never go back there again 8/3/2007

I would avoid this restaurant at all cost. We took some out of country friends there for dinner and were highly embarrased by poor service and poor quality of food, served with no style in beat up dishes and no garnish. The overall experience was bad. more

I love it 8/2/2007

I do not give a s**t what other people say about this place I do believe that is the best place to go for some fun and great food. Pros: I love the food and friendly people Cons: Parking more

a real disappointment 7/29/2007

With all the glowing reviews, I decided to give this Indian restaurant, adjacent to Union Square on a vaguely skeevy side street, a try on a Friday night. The decor was pleasant enough, as was the customer service to start with. Everything went downhill from there. For an appetizer, we ordered the combination vegetable plate, which amounted to a single, cracked papadum atop a doily, two desiccated pieces of vegetable pakora and onion rings and one dry samosa. The sad presentation was matched by the bland flavors and texture of this first plate. I ordered one of the signature cocktails, called Madras Madness, which was made of different types of rum and mango juice. It was so strong and syrupy, I couldn't drink anything beyond my first sip. For dinner, my date ordered the non-vegetarian dinner and I had the black lentils and lamb. My lamb and lentil dish came completely a la carte, and was served simply in a small metal dish. My date's food was presented a bit more festively, and came with vegetable and rice accoutrements. Sadly, nothing we had that night possessed the bold flavors that we so enjoy from Indian food. Whether it was spicy or not, the flavor was what was really missing in our meal, and we won't be returning to this restaurant. Pros: near Union Square Cons: quality, flavor and presentation of the food more

On the way to everywhere fun 6/19/2007

If you're looking for a place that's classy (but not hoity-toity), has great food (that's not hung up on presentation) and is near the middle of things to do, New Delhi Restaurant is always a good choice. Just a block off of Market St., it's a good place to meet up, have a great dinner, and wander off to do something fun nearby afterwards. Pros: Good casual food Cons: Weekend parking more

Excellent nan bread! 6/14/2007

What an incredible dinner. We went to New Delhi for our anniversary dinner and were amazed. This was by far one of the best meals that I have had in the city in a long time. The meal, the drinks, and the service were terrific. The ambiance was very Old World hotel, if that makes sense. Very warm, relaxed and inviting. We dined on such fair as: Kashmiri Lamb Kofta - lamb marinated in yogurt and seasonings over rice. Spicy Madras Tamarind Chicken - chicken cooked with tamarind, spices and coconut millk. Sag Paneer - a lovely creamy spinach dish with big chunks of homemade cheese and garlic. And last but not least, Mango and pistachio ice cream made on site. All of the food was prepared perfectly, tasted very authentic and reminded me of being in India again. This is truly how all Indian food should taste. I washed it all down with a couple Chai teas and I was good to go with one happy tummy. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone. Pros: Great sag paneer Cons: Parking more

food and service was great!!!!!!!!!!! 5/26/2007

The service is warm and friendly, and the food is amazing. From the moment you walk in, you can tell that they want you to enjoy the experience. The menu has a nice variety of options: vegetarian, seafood, meats, north Indian food. The best dish was chicken tikka masala,it was so good that we had to order the second one. Can't wait to come back. Pros: Service and the food Cons: parking more

best tandoori I had 5/25/2007

Great! This is a must go to. If you love Indian food, this is the place for you. I recommend their tandoori plates such as the tandoori prawns or the hariyali murg tikka. service was great too. Its worth a second trip. Pros: food and the service Cons: Parking more

Horrible service - just plain rude 5/15/2007

I set up a reservation for a party here. Never received calls back regarding the details. I provided confirmation, but they decided to ignore it and double book. When I called back to ask what happened, they hung up on me. Pros: I've heard the food is good. Cons: Worst service ever. more

Bad food, worse service 5/15/2007

The food here was not good. If you want food that's just a whole lot of cream, but has no real flavor, this is the spot. As for pricing, it's reasonable. That being said, the service was abysmal. They never asked us how the food was, never asked us if we wanted anything else etc. If you just want Indian food, but don't care about quality or atmosphere...this is the place to go. more

Yummiest Indian food and friendly staff 4/30/2007

New Delhi has amazing food...no doubt the most delicious somasa we've had, and we've had many..The restaurant was lovely and the food super fresh..The waiters were very attentive and the owner as well.Very clean with reasonable prices and lots of indian people which is always a good sign for authentic and delicious indian cuisine....Dont forget to try the homemade indian fruiti icecream....Just right to cleanse the palette...We will be back the next time we come to San Fran for a visit.. Pros: fresh food more

Best Indian food outside of Birmingham UK!!!!!!!!! 3/21/2007

OH MY GOD!!! comming from England and finding this place was a dream come true, believe me I know Indian food comming from the ""Balti Belt"" There are plenty of ""Indian"" restaurants in San Fran but please know this is the most authentic you will possibly get! The portions are superb, the Executive Chef, I beleive his name is Mohammed, is without a doubt the most personable and helpful chef I have ever encountered! more

  • In Short
An upscale choice for North Indian cuisine, this restaurant right off Union Square has a dark, wooden interior that opens past the full bar into a large, dressy dining room. The space has a vintage feel thanks to lots of old wood and exposed brick. Dishes include traditional Indian fare--curries, tandoori, rogan josh, tikka masala--and more exotic choices such as kofta shah jahani (stuffed meatballs) and murg akbari (spiced chicken with dried fruits).
