A must for a romantic evening 8/24/2005

Wonderfully romantic with a haunting ambience. Following dinner one should stroll the upper deck and enjoy the philadelphia skyline and view across the water at new Jersey. Pros: Romantic, Ambience, Unsusal more

Very unique dining experience! 7/4/2005

We were in town from Boston for Live 8 and made reservations (7pm) at Moshulu this past Friday night. We were promptly seated as soon as we walked in. Service was fantastic! Our water glasses were filled as needed and our waiter also told us that he was going to wait a while to put our main course orders in if it was okay with us, since the kitchen wasn't too busy yet and he didn't want it coming out too rushed. That was nice and we were able to enjoy our wine and the ship's ambiance. Be sure to ask your waiter or wine steward about the history of the ship; fascinating past. We both had the Pork Tenderloin which was incredible and highly recommended. Dessert was out of this world-good. All in all, a great dining experience. Definitely check out Moshulu next time you're in Philly. more

Something Different; Something Delicious 6/4/2005

My husband and I stayed at the Penn's View Hotel for our anniversary, had flights of wine at their wine bar before dinner, and then went for a pleasant stroll to Moshulu. We sat at the bar and had two flavored martinis and then were promptly seated. The food was absolutely delicious. We both had the vension which we HIGHLY recommend. Service was attentive. Dinner aboard a ship was fun. Take a hike up to the top deck after dinner! Pros: Delicious Food, Creative recipes, Nice presentation Cons: Expensive, Empty, Table on an angle more

Read the all the reviews: SINKING SHIP! 5/25/2005

There are so many good restaurants in Philadelphia, do not even try this one; The ONLY highlight was it was different location for your typically Philly restaurant, on a boat on the water. Trust me having dinner on this boat on the dirty Delaware is not worth your time to endure the staff and service; to boot the food was average and that is being generous. Pros: Water View, Ship Setting Cons: SERVICE, SERVICE, SERVICE more

OVER RATED 2/14/2005

Over priced, food is terrible, staff needs some extra training especially for 18% tip that is included in your bill.Went there for Val.'s day ambience was romantic&I did have high expectations for food.I was very disapointed. The First Course was cold, raviolli did not have any taste. Than the main meal came and I was shocked. Before I ordered I did ask the waiter if this meal contains any meat. He saidNO. Even though I was little bit sceptic I trusted the waiter&I orderd Duet of Yellow fin Tuna & Hudson Valley Foie Gras.It turns out that what I order was tuna with duck liver. When I ask the waiter about the duck liver he said that he didn't think of duck liver as meat. Please write two page menu on simple english. Get staff some extra training or sign them up for French class so they can make accurate recommendations. Pros: Ambience, View, Romantic Cons: Over priced, Terrible Food, Staff more

Excellent Birthday Dinner 2/7/2005

My husband and 4 of our friends went out for my Birthday this past Saturday to Moshulu. I have to say that it was the best Birthday that I have had in a long time. The service was by far incredible!! The staff was attentive all night long, filling our wine glasses, folding our napkins when we got up and making sure we had eveything we needed. In fact, a staff member went to the trouble of unscrewing a light bulb that was making it too hot for my friend. He actually burned his fingers to make our dinner more comfortable. The food was absolutely delicious. We had appetizers, main course and dessert. Everyone at the table enjoyed every dish. It was a wonderful evening that I would love to repeat in the future. Pros: staff, food Cons: expensive, uneven floor more

Terrible!! Terrible!!! Terrible!! 7/3/2004

We recently dined at the Moshulu on the outside deck on The Fourth of July. The view of the display was great however, the food was unexscuseably subpar. Granted this was a busy night but we ordered three rounds of drinks before being served our meals. We were served cold entrees 1 1/2 hours after being seated. We had no other choice but to return both of our meals and have a liquid dinner. We are not a pushy inpatient couple, to say the least, and I will give a good review (as I have in the past) when I have a pleasant dining experience but this was one of the worst. There are plenty of other water side restaurants to choose from that do not take advantage of their customers because of their location. I will dine elsewhere in the future. Pros: ambience, waterside Cons: , price, service more

good view, avg food, horrible service 2/16/2004

Having just dined there with my S.O. this past Valentines, I would NOT recommend folks to take their date to Moshulu. I understand that its very busy on Valentines... so fine, longer wait on service is acceptable and expected. What is not acceptable is not having my glass of water ever re-filled, forgetting to give us the dinner rolls, the manner in which we were handed our plates (soup almost spilled onto my date's lap), cold soup, and worst of all, food not prepared properly (and failing to tell us its because their grill malfunctioned). You know, a restaurant at this price should be able to provide a certain level of service at full capacity and its obvious they do not have the best mechanics or adequate management in place to be able provide that. Moshulu might be worth trying on a less busier night. Pros: good view Cons: , food not prepared pro more

debbiemango 2/13/2004

I made reservations for Valentines day. When we arrived their parking lot was fll so we had to park 3 blocks away. I am disabled and this was hard for me to do. We had reservations for 7:30. We had to wait almost an hour for or table. When we sat down we noticed on the menu that the price per person was 75.00. We were never informed of this. Of course this did not include drinks or tip. This was a little more than we wanted to spend. So we left. Pros: atmosphere, location Cons: , poor service, TOO Expensive more

Awesome 2/3/2004

We went for my boyfriend's birthday in Sept. '03 and enjoyed it so much, we're going again for Valentine's Day! The food was delicious and the ambience was really romantic and wonderful. Our server was knowledgeable and efficient. My only complaint was that we made reservations, but upon our on time arrival, we had to wait in the bar for about 45 minutes. We were VERY hungry by the time we were seated. Hope it doesn't happen again on Valentine's Day...Overall, very enjoyable. Pros: Delicious food, Great Server, Nice Atmosphere Cons: , disorganized hosts, a way from the hotel more

I loved it! 1/18/2004

I think I ordered the same dish as a previous review and their ""raw"" duck was actually smoked duck, perhaps that's why they only enjoyed the salad portion. I loved the whole dish. Our server was well informed and let us know that they can handle most special requests but because of the large menu and small kitchen, the salads are only served at room temperature and rare to medium rare, however there are enough selections to overcome anyone who does not prefer this. We had a wonderful time in the main dining room which has one of the most captivating atmosphere's in the city. The dinner chicken dish is one of the best I've ever had. Pros: Room, Food! Food! Food!, View Cons: Out of the way more

eewww 1/1/2004

food was not prepared as directed...when i ordered my food i was informed it would be medium rare so i asked for all my food to be ""well done"" yet it came out med rare...the server either wasn't listening, didn't give a damn, or has really poor communication skills w/ the chef...the best part of the meal was the salad that accompanied my raw duck. What a shame...i used to be a server as well and i know good service when i see it. overall, i would rate this restaurant very poorly in regards to food and service. Pros: salad was great, atmosphere is nice Cons: server's incompetance, the food more

Aesthetics over all else 11/15/2003

Starting with the food: Very good, presentation was a big part of it though. Extremely interesting appetizers. Only complaint was we were not asked how we wanted our meat or fish cooked, and upon asking, were told it's only done one way. Service was mediocre, possibly just a newbie waiting on us, but she had to come back and confirm (she had it wrong both times) our order. Great view of the river, that's for certain, and an elegant atmosphere. But at least in the cafe lounge, the seating is strange--some two-person tables are one chair and the other preson sits on a central round cushioned thing. Tables along the sides are on a slope floor, so you sit at a strange angle. Customers seemed to be mostly middle-aged at the bar, not the younger crowd you see in Olde City. All in all, very worth a visit! Pros: Good, cheap parking, Presentation of food, Great appetizers Cons: Strange seating, Somewhat pricey more

Toss the Crew... 9/10/2003

You can't NOT like the newly designed Moshulu, especially if you're sitting on the deck, on a bright, sun-filled Sunday, eagerly awaiting an ice-cold Bloody Mary. If you like them super-spicy, the bartender will oblige. However, don't come hungry. Although the food is quite good, you'll wait a really, really, really long time for it. My dining companion received both appetizer and entree, which we both finished before mine appeared, with barely an apology from the waitress, who we dubbed Tonya Harding. Favorite moment of her ""service?"" When she announced that the kitchen was running ""bass ackwards today."" We should have known better, when it took several minutes of wandering around to get a table...there didn't seem to be a hostess. Pros: Fantastic view, Nice menu Cons: Inept service, Bad kitchen timing more

Great Lunch Experience! 8/25/2003

The menu was extremely interesting...the crabcake sandwich was amazing and the tortilla soup was quite good...not to mention the deserts. Service was only a bit slow. My only complaint is that no one warned us about the formal dress code when we reserved a table in the main dining room, so we ate in the casual room which was fine, but I was just peeved at this lack of attention. Pros: Great Menu, View, Location Cons: Pricey, Lagging Service more

Great dinner and drinks! 6/14/2003

The food was superb, the prices are appropiate, the decor is beautiful. The only thing left to polish is the staff....I would dine again in a heart beat, they were trying really hard and I am sure that they will get the services gliches fixed. Pros: Great food, Beautiful decor, Good value Cons: Inexperienced staff more
