Very authentic S. American food 11/21/2003

Fabulous chiccarones. This is the most consistent Latin restaurant I have been to in San Francisco. There's not a hint of Mexican influence and all South American and Caribbean! It's a wonderful exeperience. I had a great meal start to finish. It gets a bit busy and loud. Pros: food, authenticity, friendly service Cons: noisy, cramped, bad neighborhood more

Que Rico! 11/10/2003

I have had the pleasure of dining at this restraunt several times. I just love every dish they serve, not to say I've had them all, but ALMOST. My ultimate favorite is the Chuleta (Pork chop) and the Ceviches (any one of the several they serve). The touch of Peru in present in every single dish they serve. The staff is great and although it's a small establishment they do all they can to accommodate the people. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, this place is hot. Call for a reservation and try to have at least 3 people---they don't take reservations for 2 on the weekends---or go for an early dinner at 5 p.m. Pros: Great Staff, Great Food, Reasonable Prices Cons: Small, but nice, Noisy when crowded, lack of parking more

Terrible experience 8/30/2003

Not worth the effort! After waiting for a table for over an hour, we returned to the restaurant. Having been told we were guaranteed a table, we arrived 6 minutes late. We were then told (by a very unsympathetic hostess) that the restaurant gives away tables after five minutes. They could have told us this when they ""guaranteed"" our table. We'll never go back. more

Slacking off. . . 8/29/2003

Success has gone to Limon's head. The waits are long (we had to negotiate with the hostess to get seated AT our reservation time), the food disappointingly mediocre, and the service sporadic and nonchalant. We ordered chicken apps that tasted like KFC's best, a paella-like dish that wouldn't pass muster in a school cafeteria, and a boulliabaise that made us weep with grief at the money we were wasting. On top of that, the ""waiting room"" is the sidewalk. Pros: Nice open kitchen Cons: Bad value, No waiting area, Crowded & noisy more

Great find! 8/5/2003

We stumbled across this restaurant accidently (walked by around 6pm on a weekday and their menu looked interesting) and I still can't believe how much we lucked out finding this place! The service was great and the food was fabulous! I really enjoyed the mixed seafood ceviche and the mussels with the coconut saffron sauce. The portions were huge- we couldn't believe our bill after we got so much food! Can't wait to go back! more

Wonderful Peruvian Food 7/29/2003

This place is a gem! The menu selection was great The food is terrific. And the staff was relatively accomodating. Strongly recommend the Ceviche Limon, the Chicharron, Calamares, and the Ahi Tuna Tartare to start with. The Bouillabaise was also amazing-- as the seafood was very fresh and the tomato base broth light and pleasing. The chocolate mousse and peach bread pudding can be great endings to a wonderful meal. Also-- the Sangria is one to try. The wine list is lacking but the $10 corkage fee makes up for it. Pros: Great Food, Really fresh seafood, good for groups Cons: crowded, parking, small wine list more

another great Mission restaurant! 7/16/2003

not to be missed! the food is very fresh and affordable. i had the seafood paella and it was loaded with flavor and tons of seafood. the service is also very friendly and totally makes it feel like a neighborhood restaurant. the only negative comment is that the space has all hard surfaces and it's really small which makes the room really loud so come with one person cause you'll never be able to have a group conversation. Pros: friendly service, affordable Cons: very loud more

good, but overly hyped 7/14/2003

Considering the amount of press Limon has received we decided to wait a few months before trying it. The food was good, but the defeaning noise and pushy service made for a rushed and exhausting meal. Calamari were good and the little empanda-like pockets were delicious, but the ceviche was so acidic I had to stop halfway through because I couldn't taste anything anymore. Probably wont' return unless service turns around and more care is taken with the food. Pros: good appetizers, reasonable prices Cons: noise and service, some dishes miss more

Great 7/1/2003

This is one of the best new places in the Mission. The food is diverse, new and, most important, delicious. The staff is wonderful. more

Viva Peru! 7/1/2003

An absolute favorite among the Peruvian's I've met in the city and now it's mine too! The food is authentic, super tasty and a decent value. The ceviche is the best I've had so far and I practically lick the plate clean with the lomo saltado. Yeah it's hard to get a reservation, but it's worth it and the service is always nice. Another excellent option is Mi Lindo Peru if you can't wait to get in here. Buen provecho! Pros: Damn tasty food, Nice service, Inexpensive Cons: Tough reservations more

Nuevo Latino Cusine is so hot right now! 6/30/2003

Great food and excellent service. The food will make you forget about the overhyped, overpriced Californian cuisine that's been prevalent all over SF. My personal favorites include the Arroz Primavera and the ice cream made out of a fruit from the Amazon. Pros: Excellent service Cons: Parking can get tough, Can get crowded more

thosb 6/17/2003

At first we were told ""no reservations for less than 4 people"". So, we got 4 together and made reservations. On arrival, we had to wait about 15 minutes for our table. It was worth it! Food was fabulous and we had a great waiter. I will go again. My only complaint is the noise! My God, it is deafening! Not a place for good table conversation unless you enjoy getting a sore throat. But the food is terrific. Pros: Nice local place Cons: NOISY!, Parking difficult more

groovy peruvian! 6/5/2003

This place is tiny and it serves amazing grub, which will keep people lingering at their tables. I'm sure this is the cause of the seating difficulties. My experience has been much different than those expressing their wish for the restaurants demise. Different, each of the four times I've visited. The wait can be lengthy, but you're in the Mission. Leave you cell phone # and have a cocktail at any number of bars near by. You'll be glad you did. Amazing civeche, Peruvian paella and sangria for days. Don't be a hater, this place is great. more

Insulting Service 6/4/2003

Like many reviewers here, we were turned away despite a confirmed reservation. The host was very arrogant and unapologetic; our evening was ruined. I sincerely hope this restaurant fails! more

Vale la pena 6/4/2003

I went with a group of friends. Most of them were peruvians including myself. I personally liked the food, and I do think Limon is one of the best peruvian restaurants in the bay area (because most of them are pretty bad here). I usually like the service in the peruvian restaurants. The waiters are always nice, but Limon is the exception. It seems that they are not in a good mood and cannot take any jokes. But definitively I would go back to try other dishes there =) Pros: Food Cons: Service more

AVERAGE 5/25/2003

Food was so-so but the Sangria and Chocolate Moose were very good. The service was hadequate but I don't think I will go back. Pros: small restaurant, Good Sangria, Good Choc Moose Cons: Average Food, Ambiance fair more
