Best

My partner and I went here with his sister and her boyfriend. I had the mushroom burger and LOVED it. But it was all pretty good. We will definitely be back!

Worst

I've had lunch here twice. Both times, I got the blandest sandwich imaginable. The staff was friendly enough and the location is good, but there's really no other reason to go her...

Live jazz & blues, good food, great ambiance, reasonable prices 10/4/2005

I have been to Julia's many times, and it is usually a pleasant experience. Most of their dinners are very tasty; I recommend you order the special (it's usually something delicious from the chef) or the Chicken Forestiere. Breakfasts are okay, but their dinners are much better. The dining room features a lot of dark wood and they have some beautiful chandeliers that light the restaurant. There is also a bar that you can sit at. Their specialty drinks a bit pricey, and they're not big enough to make them a good value. Dinner prices are reasonable. The entire establishment is no smoking. Two sides of the dining room have full windows, with one side looking out to Broadway. In the summer they have outdoor seating on both Broadway and E Thomas St. They have live music on the weekends, usually jazz or blues, with no cover charge. There is also a Baby Grand piano that is played on certain weeknights, sometimes with live singers. I've had many pleasant dinners here and would definitely recommend Julia's. However, there have been some visits that were problematic in terms of slow service. Once we visited during Happy Hour and were not given the Happy Hour menu. We ordered burgers and were charged full price (even though the sign on the window read "Happy Hour - $3 Burgers"). The waitress stated that the $3 price is only for burgers ordered off the Happy Hour menu. The waitress should have offered us the Happy Hour menu when she seated us. If you like live jazz or blues, then Julia's is a nice place just to hang out in the lounge area and enjoy some drinks. more

Not too fancy 8/21/2005

I thought Julia’s was going to be one of those diners that makes everything pointlessly fancy. But actually, they make a great basic breakfast for those of us who just want some fluffy pancakes and crisp bacon. I went with a coupon and the waitstaff was very nice about it. The restaurant looks right out onto Broadway, which makes for some fun watching while eating. more

Nice ambience, good food 8/19/2005

This restaurant on Capitol Hill has nice ambience, with a piano player and lots of velvet everywhere. The food is pretty good, too. I had a salad with seafood on it, and my husband had the fish and chips. We also had artichoke dip as an appetizer. Overall, we ate too much food, but it was really good. more

Always disappointed 8/17/2005

I expected Julias on Broadway to be the same quality as the one in Wallingford, but have been disappointed each time. The restaurant looks inviting and the menu seems pretty good. Unfortunately, it doesn't live up to it's image and service is not the best. There are many other options on Broadway and my suggestion is to visit them instead. Maybe I've just had bad luck there, but I'm not willing to give it another chance. more

If nothing else is open... 7/28/2005

I've been to Julia's once and probably won't return. I went there with a friend for brunch one Sunday morning. When I go out for brunch on a weekend, I look forward to some delicious food and lovely prepared meals. Not so at Julia's. Service was fine and thank goodness for the Bloody Mary I had to hide the unappetizing food. Most of the meal I've forgotten now, but one thing still stands out -- do not order the turkey sausage! I was thinking this would be a low fat, healthy alternative to sausage, but it was extremely greasy, very very salty, and pretty much unedible (which I guess makes it low fay if you don't eat any of it). Pick another spot on Broadway for your brunch outings. more

Julias - more like dont-eat-herias! 7/26/2005

Nearly my worst experience in an eating establishment. The facts: 1. Our table didn't get visited by a server for 15-20 minutes until after we got there. 2. Two of us asked for cheese on our eggs. The eggs came without cheese. When we asked about it the server said, "Oh we can't do that here". Since I have been in a kitchen before I asked, "Are you sure you can't put some cheese on it and put it under the broiler?" He said, "we can't do that here." I sarcastically asked if we could get some cheese on the side. He brought me a side of cheese. I said, "Thanks." 3. Our food was served cold. Even if it was served with heat it would not have been good. 4. We barely touched our food and had to work for the bill. To be fair this is my only experience with the place and I can't get myself to give it a second chance. The only reason it gets two stars is because the remodel they did on the building was well done. It would be a nice place to have a pleasant breakfast experience. more
