As an employee of UW, I venture across campus from time to time and check out the bookstore. They have a large fiction section, and while the prices aren't anything special, the selection is nice. There are usually bargain tables out as well, although with these books, the selection usually isn't too impressive. Still, it's a great bookstore to while away some time. If you're driving, be prepared to deal with the limited parking in the U-district. There is a pay parking lot in back.

Working on First Hill, I frequently find myself at Thai Star for lunch or ordering take out. Either way, service is quick and the food is incredible. My favorites are the cashew chicken/tofu (the sauce has a great little bite to it but not so much as to overwhelm the food itself) and the panang curry, which is a delciously creamy peanut sauce-based dish, served with an array of vegetables. Yum! They have relatively recently opened another location downtown which I'm dying to try out too!

Twice Sold Sales is a neat little independent bookstore that mostly sells used books. Great selection and prices of used titles, and there are several cats lounging about the store. Very cool! The store is open late and I believe all night on Friday nights, providing a nice alternative to bars/clubs. I've stumbled across used copies of books that I couldn't wait to get home to read. Professional, courteous, and helpful staff work there, and if you have any questions, they're more than willing to provide assistance.

Dr. Killian has been my primary care provider for the past few years. I enjoy my rapport with him and the office staff and feel comfortable and open in discussing any health concerns I have. He makes good recommendations if a specialist is needed. The only downside is that sometimes appointments can feel a little rushed. But, his professional manner and and great to my office win out.

Wow, McKinnon Furniture is a beautiful store, full of high quality wood furniture that they make themselves! I especially like the bedroom pieces they have. Unfortunately, the prices are on the high side, but you are getting extremely high quality pieces. They do have some smaller items that are quite affordable. I picked up a plant stool that is beautiful and very affordable. Once I have the funds though, the high quality (and more expensive) pieces will be mine!

Madison Market is by far my favorite of Seattle's numerous natural foods stores. They have a huge selection of organic produce (I've discovered new types of veggies I never even knew existed!), delicious homemade food, a great bulk food section, and a nice assortment of fresh seafood. Prices are quite reasonable as well, considering the nature of the store. I really like their cereal section...it's great to find yummy breakfast cereal with only nutritious ingredients when compared to the major brands.

After I moved to Seattle and discovered Mud Bay Granary, I was hooked! They have a great selection of healthy food items for dogs and cats, including wonderful selections of wet food -- none of the animal by-products for my cats! Plus great treats and toys, and helpful, friendly staff. My favorite (or rather, my cats' favorite) brand is Merrill's a canned food that only consists of meat (and not meat by-products), veggies, and vitamins and minerals), with such groovy types as Thanksgiving Dinner, Grammy's Pot Pie, Turducken, and Cowboy Cookout.

My partner and I stumbled across Market Spice while we were exploring downtown Seattle. What a great shop! They have excellent spice blends, especially for seafood and southwestern style foods. I especially liked their different types of salt. We bought some Hawaiian sea salt, which has a beautiful red color and a complex flavor that lingers pleasantly on the palate. The only downside was that they were out of the cocoa blend (which smelled great in the sample jar!). I'll have to go back and see if they have it in stock soon and pick up some other spice blends and types of salt!

I have taken my cats to Queen Anne Animal Clinic since I moved to Seattle four years ago. The staff quickly knew me and my cats by name, even though we only come in a couple times per year. They are friendly, attentive, and provide excellent medical care. They also offer multi-pet discounts and participate in the Seattle Animal Shelter adoption program - if you adopt an animal from the shelter, Queen Anne Animal Clinic is one of the places you can get the first exam for free. What a great service to provide! They have also worked with me on some weight issues with a couple of my cats and have suggested some great ways to adjust their food and get them to gain/lose the necessary weight.

While I'm not much into the hipster scene, I have to admit I love the clothes at Red Light. For quality vintage clothing, this is the place to go. Sure, you'll pay more than at Value Village, but the selection is way better, especially when it comes to looking through men's shirts. They also have a pretty wide assortment of jeans and pants, and I love the cool belts there too!
