Terrible service for such a restaurant 6/7/2008

I expected a lot more and I should have read the reviews before going. The service was the worst ever and it seems that they don't train their staff to be polite and courteous when serving the diners. They lack business morals and really don't care about customer satisfaction. They took forever to take our order and I think they have issues against people that are not caucasian from what I saw at the other table. Don't support these people and their lack of tolerance towards others. Cons: Bad service and long wait for order more

Had a HORRIBLE time here 11/17/2006

I came with a group for a birthday dinner. It was miserable. The drinks were tasty, though our appetizers were slow to come out. Our entrees took FOREVER to come out, either because the whole table needed to be served at the same time and they couldn't figure out the timing or they just figured that since there was a mandatory tip they didn't need to really wait on the table. Our waiter disappeared frequently and left us high and dry without a word on why there was a delay. Once the food did start to arrive at the table, some plates were cold while others were too hot. The waiter couldn't be bothered to come and bring me my dish, he simply reached over from the other side. It was a miserable dinner that I never want to repeat. I was better off somewhere else down the pier. more

Lamb-a-licious! 8/29/2006

I don't usually eat lamb, but upon dining at this place, my bf ordered lamb. I tried it and to my surprise, it was delicious! No after taste like other lamb I've tasted in the past. All of the dishes our group ordered were far from disappointing. Sometimes on weekends after 10pm, this place becomes a club. So if you don't want the club crowd to invade your romantic dinner, make a reservation early enough so you'll be done by the time they start lining up outside. more

A touch of class 6/19/2006

This restaurant really does exude class and elegance which you unfortunately can't tell from the outside. Inside, Crossing The Bar has an upscale decor. We had a really enjoyable time last Saturday. The waiter was very friendly but not annoyingly friendly. We got a really nice table. The food came out relatively quickly and tasted great. I am coming back again. Pros: classy and elegant with a lot of parking more

A place to drink and be merry 6/15/2006

A group of us went to Crossing The Bar after work for a drink during their Happy Hour. They have a very innovative Drink Specials Menu with interesting spinoffs of the more famous and traditional drinks. Their Baba's Blue Cosmo is a must as well as their Death By Chocolate Martini. They have a really cool looking glass top bar with little TV screens built into the bar top itself. This is a great place to hang out and a good opportunity to try out their different drinks. Pros: Great Drink Specials more

French Indian fusion - new concept, great taste 6/11/2006

I heard about this place but since I am not into Indian food I never though twice about visiting until I read a very positive review in a newspaper recently. When I went there I was very pleasantly surprized. They have a great variety of appetizers and entrees ranging from crab crepes, sizzling fish and vegetarian dishes, rack of lamb, filet mignon along with chicken, lamb and vegetarian dishes. The taste was incredible, not spicy at all, but they said they can make certain dishes more spicy as required. This is not one of those places where the servers are eager for you to finish so that they can seat the next person at your table and get more tips. This is one of those places you can relax and not have the fear of a server's elbow bumping into your face as they rush past. All in all we had a fabulous experience. Pros: Incredible food, plenty of parking more

First Rate Service 6/11/2006

There are many good aspects to this restaurant ranging from impressive decor, good food, great drink specials but I'd like to especially focus on their service which is where many restaurants fall short on. I came with a group of 16 and our table was ready and waiting for us along with menu's, water and very clean silverware and glassware on the table. The food came out very quickly and we had a waiter just for our table and boy did he give us such special attention that we all felt at home very quickly. He was knowedgeable with the wines and made great suggestions. Pros: Service Cons: Their waiters don't sing Happy Birthday more

Thumbs Up for Crossing The Bar 6/7/2006

This restaurant would be in my personal Top 10 of Favorite Restaurants of San Francisco. I have dined at many restaurants and each one has their own characteristics. This restaurant is not too large and not too small. It is divided into three areas where you can have a quiet, romantic dinner and in other areas it is good for larger groups. I loved their attention to detail in many areas ranging from food decoration, attentive service and very helpful staff. I ordered the sizzling fish and the aroma's that this dish gave out while it was being brought to my table I could see other people turning their heads to see what dish this was. My partner ordered their steak and both our meals were cooked to prefection. I will definitely be going back again. Pros: atmosphere more

What a gem of a restaurant 6/4/2006

I couldn't have asked for better service. The food was yummy and our server was very prompt and alert to our needs. This is a great place to impress friends. Pros: Food, Parking more

Great Experience 6/3/2006

I went to Crossing The Bar yesterday with a large group of 18 people and we had a really great time. The server was very friendly and helpful in selecting the appropriate wines, the food came out very quickly and the atmosphere was very nice. This is not the first time that I have visited this restaurant. Every time I dined here the food and service was consistently very good. Pros: lot of parking, service more

One of the best 6/2/2006

I had a really fantastic experience here. Their fusion cuisine tasted great. I had their rack of lamb and that was awesome. They have a really nice looking bar with innovative drinks specials. Great job guys, keep up the good work !!! Pros: Food, Service more

Crossing the road! 4/24/2006

There are many fine restaurants in San Francisco, Crossing The Bar is not one of them, far from it. Cross the road and go elsewhere, anywhere. The food is bad. The service is worse. Save your money but don't save your appetite to come here. Cons: service, food, service more

Bad food and worse service 4/24/2006

I went here expecting a start to a great evening, was I wrong. The service was lacking in every way possible. The food was boring at best. They think or claim to be upscale but they are far from it. Save your money...go anywhere else but here. Pros: nothing, nothinh, nothing Cons: food, service, decor more

Save your time and money...do not go here 4/24/2006

I wasted time and money at this overpriced and boring restaurant. Read the other reviews yourself and make the call. The food was bland and anything but good. The service was the worst I've come accross in years! They were rude, un-accommodating and they are more interested in being a club then a restaurant. Please do not waste your money here. I went on a Saturday night and every other dining place seemed busy except this one, it makes you wonder. Save your time and efforts and go somewhere else, this place will ruin your night! Pros: none, none, none Cons: Service, Food, Service more

Do Not Dine Here. 4/24/2006

Please do not dine here! The service is the worst ever! What made it worse is that the service...it's unreal. The food is not worth eating, you'll need to go somewhere else after to fill up. The service is so horrible - I actually wanted to cry! I have never been treated the way this place treated us, and when I wanted to complain, they had the nerve to tell me that all upscale restaurants are like them - as if I don't go to any nice restaurants in SF! What? Was I being insulted? It's unacceptable! They are more interested in being a club then a restaurant and with the food being terrible, they might have a better chance as a club, so who can blame them. Go to anywhere else, there are plenty of other places to eat around there. Pros: none, none, none Cons: Service, Food, Prices more

Absolutely Un-Fabulous! 4/23/2006

If you are looking for good food, do not go here! If you are looking for a stylish place with decor and service, stay away! The food is overpriced and bland, $8 for a few samosa's and that's just for starters...literally! The service was terrible, they have zero customer care and do not honor reservations. The workers were rude and unprofessional. Read the other reviews and see for yourself. This place is a waste of time, money and energy. We went there on a Saturday night and the place was dead, which seemed strange, since all the place next door and accross the street were packed. Do yourself a favor and save your money and go to anywhere else instead. What a waste of time and a wasted Saturday night. Pros: None, None, None Cons: Service, Food, Service more

Great food 4/21/2006

The food was pretty great, the service was a TAD slow, and everything could be a bit cheaper...but seriously, go for the great food and yummy drinks! Pros: Food, Cocktails, Friendly staff Cons: a BIT pricey, a TAD loud @ HH more

Great looking Place 3/9/2006

For starters this place looks better than the picture shown in citysearch. First of all they have tablecloths on the tables and they must have changed the colors as they have more walmer colors than is seen in the picture. Must be an old picture. The service was good, all courses came out on time. The food was great especially the rack of lamb which was exceptional. The atmosphere was right on, not too loud and a good place to go for a special romantic dinner. They seem to have separate areas for larger groups. They did not have valet parking on the night we went though there's a big parking lot round the back of the restaurant. Pros: Food, atmosphere Cons: No Valet Parking more

Views from a frequent diner 3/2/2006

Having dined at many restaurants this was an absolute treat. Our experience was wonderful. We can certainly see as to what all the hoop-la was all about among locals. We couldn't have asked for better service along with the great food and ambience the crab crepes was incredible and our entree's were cooked to perfection. I would highly suggest the Rack of Lamb. For dessert the Chocolate Caramel Pyramid was out of this world and it looked great in the shape of a pyramid. It was finally nice to see a service staff who was down to earth, knowledgeable and not pretentious as we've seen in many restaurant's. Pros: Service, Reasonably Priced more

Attention to detail 2/27/2006

Some of my work colleagues and I decided to meet there for some drinks after work and we ended up having dinner. I really loved their Chocolate Martini which was recommended by the bartender. Also, our waiter spent time explaining the different dishes and which wines would best go with them. Even though some upscale restaurants could be intimidating at times this restaurant is not one of those as the service made all the difference . We will definitely come back again. Pros: Service, price Cons: Nothing more
