After assuring us that she ?definitely feels something in there? the vet convinced us that surgery was necessary to remove a splinter from my border collie?s paw. Then $600, and 1 butchered paw later; she tells us there was nothing in her paw. Now my dog?s foot is open to infection, and we have to wrestler her down 4 times a day to get her to take a pill (she hates pills). All for nothing. \r I understand that a misdiagnosis is possible, but the way it was presented to us was ?I definitely feel something in there, and we need to go get it.? But there was nothing in there.\r I can?t help but feel we were intentionally duped out of $600, without regard for our dog well-being. \r Beware. more

I love how friendly the staff is at this hospital. Parking is not that great but not impossible. Gotta love it that it's only 6 blocks from my house.\r \r I can't speak for my dog though that won't get out of the car if I park in front of the hospital...I'm not sure how, but my dog is stops and sits down when we get barely close to the door. It's almost like she knows that this is the place that brought her into the back room and do all sorts of things to her.\r \r We brought our dog here since she was a puppy and it ended here when we had to euthanize her too. Dog had a really good life... 18 years thanks to this hospital. =) more

Amazing Staff and Doctors! 1/28/2009

By far the BEST vet in the San Francisco area. I have a 5 year old rescue dog that is generally frightened of anything new to him, and on our first visit he was right at home and happy as could be! The staff is very kind and really are there for their love of animals and it comes out in every way. I would not think of taking our two dogs anywhere else! more

I don't think any pet hospital can compare to Balboa Pet. They have a highly trained staff and doctors. I've been to a few and I really love Balboa Pet Hospital. They've take care of my dog as if he was their own. Usually he doesn't warm up to people quickly but they have the warmth and kindness that he loves....either that or they have food in their pockets which he also loves. I totally give them two thumbs up! more

Cat bath 10/2/2005

Fluffy is a Persian-Siamese mix with moderately long hair. Twice a year she goes to Balboa Pet Hospital for a bath and manicure and pedicure. We're told that she purrs the whole time that she is bathed; and she comes home very happy. It goes without saying that the staff are real pros at handling cats; and Fluffy and I readily recommend them. more
