Editorial review from Citysearch 9/12/2012

G-Werx has been a wonderful experience for me. I have used personal trainers in the past and the G-Werx provides a much better value. Furthermore, I have made many friends through the my morning classes. We all sweet, laugh, and push one another to help achieve our individual goals. more

Best Workout in Downtown 4/16/2012

I've been going to 501fit G-Werx for a few weeks now and have really enjoyed my time there. The staff is incredibly friendly and the environment is condusive to a great workout. The group workout sessions feel really encouraging and positive. The instructors are very knowledgable and somehow find a way to make working out fun. Most importantly, the results speak for themselves and since working out at 501fit, I feel stronger and healthier. I would highly recommend 501fit to anyone looking to get into better shape. more

Group Strength All the way! 2/11/2012

I can?t say enough good things about what 501 Fit has done for my health & wellbeing. When I started as one of their group strength clients over a year ago, I had never done strength training before in my life. I was 30 years old, 11 months post-baby and putting on weight. My physical at the doctor showed my blood sugar in pre-diabetic range. When I initially decided to join, it wasn?t for my health but to tone up for my wedding. That wonderful day came and went in April, 2011, and I had taken about a month off from my group strength exercises. I decided to go back and do the exercises when I returned because all my old upper back and neck injuries started hurting me again. So the second time around the goal was to not be in pain. After a couple of months of doing this, I wasn?t in pain anymore, but I met with 501 Fit once again to discuss my nutrition. With my crazy lifestyle, it was difficult for me to have enough energy during some of my classes. Phil brought some things to my attention that I could change. This was in September, 2011. After this meeting and deciding to make better nutritional choices, I have lost 20 pounds and toned up and went down two pants sizes. I have chosen this journey to now be a journey of health and 501 Fit continues to help with this. Paying for the classes is part of it because it gives me the accountability I need. When you go to their club, everyone knows your name; the people I work out with are great also. It is wonderful to work out with people with such varied hobbies and interests. I recommend 501 Fit to anyone who is serious, or in my case, sort of serious about getting on track with your fitness goals! more

Yes, It (G)-Works! 2/2/2012

I have been attending group workouts at 501Fit for almost 6 months now. I can attest that the program works! The group class format is a good compromise between wandering around the gym with a friend and having an (expensive) trainer hovering over you constantly. Phil, Diana, and the rest of the crew at 501Fit are really great. They are good motivators and will push you to achieve, but at the same time won?t embarrass you if you need to start out slow. I should know - when I started I was =really= out of shape. With the help of 501Fit, I have lost about 20lbs and my strength and stamina have seen an order of magnitude of improvement too. more

I LOVE this place! 1/23/2012

I love this place! I have to admit, I?m not super motivated to work out on my own, so I need the extra push and encouragement. I definitely get that from the trainers at 501FIT. The staff and clients are super friendly and the vibe is welcoming and unintimidating. I had come across them while searching for a personal trainer ? as I?ve had one in the past and had great results. But, I just couldn?t justify the expense of 1:1 personal training. I?ve gotten the exact same results ? if not better ? with 501FIT, at a much more reasonable cost, and have had an enjoyable and overall better experience with them. The classes are small, they?re fun yet challenging, and you get to know people. My original plan was to sign up for three months just to get acclimated to working out again, but I?ve already signed up for my next three months and have no plans of stopping. If you?re searching for a gym, this is the place. more

Awesome group training classes 1/23/2012

My partner and I have been coming to 501 fit for about 9 months. We take three 60 minute classes each week. I've never regularly worked out before--and I'm seeing major results. The staff is really friendly, the gym is never crowded, and the place is always clean. Working out in a group has been really nice for us. It keeps you on task and you end up pushing yourself a lot harder than you otherwise would thanks to peer pressure. more

great gym 1/21/2012

I love going to 501fit. I try to stop by every day after work. I have been going to different health clubs all my life, and this is one of the best. All of the staff is great, and the owners are friendly and knowledgeable. There is a variety of equipment and classes offered which can suit beginners or the more experienced weight lifter. If you are looking for a gym near downtown Minneapolis, give this one a shot! more

A great place to work out 7/18/2011

I joined 501F1T about six weeks ago and couldn't be happier. I am never motivated to work out on my own but can't afford a personal trainer so I thought I would try 501F1T. I am glad I did. Paying for a certain number of sessions give me the accountability I need but is still flexible (I can come in on saturdays to make up any training I missed during the week). The trainers are great, fun and motivating. I feel fantastic knowing I am finally working out three days a week, am getting a great work out and can afford it. more

Amazing Results and Support 2/9/2011

I have struggled with my weight my entire life. I was overweight as a child, as a teenager, and as an adult. I used to tell myself things like, ""Ok, by the time I turn 16 I am going to lose weight."" ""Ok, by the time I turn 18 I'm going to lose weight."" ""Ok, by the time I'm done with college."" ""Ok, by the time I'm done with graduate school."" All of those milestones came and went and it never happened. I don't drink sugary beverages. I have always eaten very healthy, and I am very active. I don't own a car, so I bike and walk everyday. I practice yoga. I am a physical theatre artist by profession and graduate school for me consisted of a lot of movement including acrobatics classes. Despite all of this, I just never could manage to lose any significant amount of weight. I felt I was doing everything right and still couldn't get anywhere, and it felt incredibly unfair. My feelings about my situation have varied over the years. Shortly before the first snows fell late last autumn I began to worry about what would happen to my body during the decreased activity months of winter. I decided I should spring for a gym membership. As I started reading about what the various gyms around town had to offer and they were all boasting personal training I started thinking how nice it would be if I could afford something like that. Certainly then I would finally get the body I always wanted. However, the cost was out of question for me. Then I found 501 F1T. First of all, I was really impressed with the website. The place seemed friendly and serious about helping people achieve their goals. This was not a faceless corporation, nor did it seem like a place whose clients arrive for a fitness fashion show. This place seemed like the real cool. My first impression was correct. I met with Phil for a tour and we later created a personalized plan for me to achieve my ideal fitness level which included both the Group Strength G-Werx classes, regular cardio activity, and a nutritional consultation where he was able to tell me exactly what was going on with me and what minor adjustments I could make. I am now in the 12th week of my plan and I have lost over 16 lbs so far. I've made incredible progress toward my ultimate goal and already I'm in the best shape I've ever been in my life. The Group Strength G-Werx classes were key for me. You get the same kind of one-on-one attention that you find with personal training for a fraction of the cost and you are there with other people working equally as hard which keeps you going. There is a healthy level of accountability to keep showing up everyday since other people will be there ready to work out with you. Phil and Diana, and the other trainers truly believe in each and every one of their clients and that is so empowering. They know everyone by name and spend time going out of their way to check in with how you're doing and feeling, and they support you in your journey. Now that I'm really doing this, really getting somewhere, I find myself thinking, why didn't I just do this before? Time passes whether we're working on our goals or not, might as well just go for it. more

Best Workout Around 1/23/2011

I've hopped around from fad to fad - all of the different kinds of yogas, diets, fasts, p90x. I've been working out for many years and haven't stuck to anything. Until I started going to 501FIT. I started going with a friend/co-worker of mine and then eventually my boyfriend started to come with me. The classes are so much fun + so much work. You feel accomplished after each class and everybody has such a great personality that you feel happy that you came on top of it. I've been a consistent client for almost a full year now and have never been so happy with the results I've seen. I'm blowing my initial goals out of the water thanks to the balanced lifestyle + strength training I've learned here. Super clean. Super fun. Super worth your time + money. more

Welcoming Vibe, Great Place to Train 11/15/2010

I am a personal trainer and train my clients at 501Fit. I felt welcomed by the owners, Diana and Phil, from the moment I walked in the door, and my clients feel the same way. Everyone is greeted by name with genuine warmth and enthusiasm. The facility is a great space-intimate but with plenty of room, lots of light, and an unbeatable view of the downtown skyline. You won't have to stand in line waiting for a piece of cardio equipment, and there is an excellent variety of machines, free weights, and other fitness 'toys'. The locker rooms are spotless and supplied with basic shower essentials, including towels (which is not always the case with a gym of this size). I feel fortunate to have found such a wonderful facility in which to train my clients! more

Great support & motivation for working out! 3/20/2010

6 weeks ago, I donated a kidney to my husband and we're living in the cities for his transplant follow-up care. I was cleared for workouts 4 weeks after my surgery, and found 501FIT. AWESOME! The owners/trainers are super - both with accomodating my short term request (we'll only be here another 3 weeks) and for cautioning me during class when I might be pushing too hard considering my post-surgery startup. Pros: the people, the space, classes, cleanliness, energy! Cons: haven't found any... more

Great Value - Great staff 3/7/2010

I have recently taken some strength training and cardio boxing classes at 501. Their trainers/staff are very knowledgeable, super friendly, and not pushy. The classes truly are like getting personal training results at a much lower price. Their techniques are unique and effective. Although you are in a class with other people you definitely feel like they are personally helping you and guiding you. If you are interested in personal training, this is just as good of an option and much more affordable! Pros: Affordable, results driven, friendly more

Best workout & value 12/18/2009

501FIT's concept - small group training - is brilliant. We pay far less than we would for one-on-one training, yet get tons of attention because classes are small. Best of all, we are motivated to show up each and every time because our group is expecting us. This makes 50FIT the ONLY routine we've been able to maintain. And the results? A butt you can bounce quarters off ;) As an aside, the owner Phil is a fantastic trainer (been working with him since 2002) and all-around great guy. Pros: Great value + amazing results more

Best Work Out 11/16/2009

I have done some form of strength training for most of the past 20 years. This is by far the best gym and trainers I have found. I find the workouts challenging and fun due to the class environment. My husband, who is just started strength training for the first time, gets the attention needed to ensure he is doing the exercises correctly. The facility is very clean, the gym size is perfect, and the GWerx system great to work with. I wish I had found 501 sooner. Pros: Trainers, facility, group workout, GWerx system Cons: Have not found any more

501 Fit - Strength in Numbers!! 11/9/2009

The group strength training classes make real workouts very affordable. The trainers are awesome and the equipment easy to use. Also a great place to work out on your own. Nutrition support, amazing massage, and a real community feel. People talk to you and care about your progress here! Pros: Beautiful Gym- Brick, glass, and SUNLIGHT, GROUP TRAINING Cons: Haven't found 'em more

It's a great gym! My gym! Mine! All mine!!! 11/9/2009

The trainers, Phil and Diana, know their stuff and keep people motivated. Phil invented the machines and designed the workouts, and Diana works tirelessly to keep the place running smoothly. It's a nice size on the top floor of an old factory and so has windows on four sides. It's new and clean and not crowded. A monthly membership is reasonable. So don't join. I don't want anyone to join. It's my gym. All mine. Pros: great trainers, sunny attractive environment, not crowded Cons: Parking can be a challenge sometimes. more

non-athletic people can also enjoy 501Fit 11/7/2009

I am not like the other athletic or former athletic people that have joined 501Fit. I am NOT athletic, have rheumatoid arthritis, have been a couch potato for years...and therefore obviously overweight. I joined 501Fit in January 2009, and I was going to try the strength training classes for only 8 weeks. I thought I would lose interest after that point. But I am surprised at how much fun I have at my work-outs, and how much confidence I have gained. I also don't feel awkward at the classes or in the gym the way I did at the bigger gyms that I have checked out (years and years ago). Phil and Diana are always watching to make sure we do the exercises correctly, encouraging us to push our limits, and changing the class so no two classes are ever the same. I always look forward to my classes, and feel disappointed when I can't go. My strength and balance have improved tremendously, and I have lost 30 pounds. You won't regret checking out 501Fit. Pros: friendly staff; clean environment; fun more
