I am not usually a fan of group exercise classes or a gym for that matter but since I've joined this Athletic Club, I can't get enough. An indoor pool, outdoor pool with bar, whirlpools, locker rooms, and plenty of equipment, I feel like I could just live there. In fact, there isn't enough time in the day to do everything I want. They have plenty of classes with room in the classes for everyone to attend. It's really a comfortable place to be, not a meat market like some of the other places in town.

This is a no frills place to get some serious lifting done. While they do have an adequate selection of cardio machines, I would not suggest going here if your sole purpose is cardio. Los Campeones has a wide selection of free weights with the necessary benches, bars, etcs. The gym has "normal" gym clientele who are generally focused and into their workouts. The place is just off of Franklin ave. in Minneapolis. The prices are great, especially if you sign up for a longer period of time.

This would be the perfect gym for someone who is looking for a small, very clean, quiet, well-equipped club with super-friendly staff and good group classes (including kids group classes). This gym has anything one may look for in a health club, except for the pool. All the equipment is in perfect condition. Towel service is complementary, and so are lockers. Im very impressed with the service so far.

Northwest Athletic Club in Fridley is absolutely breathtaking as far as gyms go. It has every possible piece of equipment you could want, several pools, a track, day care, classes every single day of the week or every type of person, trainers, basketball courts, tennis courts, and even a smoothie bar....but it comes at a hefty price. Not only do you have a joiners fee, but you have a high monthly membership fee. If you plan on using a trainer, that's extra. If you want a locker, that's extra. If you want to use rackets or the courts, that's extra. Really the only thing "included" in your membership is the use of the fitness equipment, the pool, and select classes. Most of the more specific classes such as dance require a payment as well. Tanning? that's extra.....sigh. All in all, for me it wasn't worth all of the money I was spending. Now don't get me wrong I was seeing results and the two free sessions with the personal trainer got me started ok, but if I wanted to see him ever again it was $70.00 an hour after that....no can do....so I had to move on. Sorry Northwest, you may be state of the art, but so are your prices.
