I have struggled with my weight my entire life. I was overweight as a child, as a teenager, and as an adult. I used to tell myself things like, ""Ok, by the time I turn 16 I am going to lose weight."" ""Ok, by the time I turn 18 I'm going to lose weight."" ""Ok, by the time I'm done with college."" ""Ok, by the time I'm done with graduate school."" All of those milestones came and went and it never happened. I don't drink sugary beverages. I have always eaten very healthy, and I am very active. I don't own a car, so I bike and walk everyday. I practice yoga. I am a physical theatre artist by profession and graduate school for me consisted of a lot of movement including acrobatics classes. Despite all of this, I just never could manage to lose any significant amount of weight. I felt I was doing everything right and still couldn't get anywhere, and it felt incredibly unfair. My feelings about my situation have varied over the years. Shortly before the first snows fell late last autumn I began to worry about what would happen to my body during the decreased activity months of winter. I decided I should spring for a gym membership. As I started reading about what the various gyms around town had to offer and they were all boasting personal training I started thinking how nice it would be if I could afford something like that. Certainly then I would finally get the body I always wanted. However, the cost was out of question for me. Then I found 501 F1T. First of all, I was really impressed with the website. The place seemed friendly and serious about helping people achieve their goals. This was not a faceless corporation, nor did it seem like a place whose clients arrive for a fitness fashion show. This place seemed like the real cool. My first impression was correct. I met with Phil for a tour and we later created a personalized plan for me to achieve my ideal fitness level which included both the Group Strength G-Werx classes, regular cardio activity, and a nutritional consultation where he was able to tell me exactly what was going on with me and what minor adjustments I could make. I am now in the 12th week of my plan and I have lost over 16 lbs so far. I've made incredible progress toward my ultimate goal and already I'm in the best shape I've ever been in my life. The Group Strength G-Werx classes were key for me. You get the same kind of one-on-one attention that you find with personal training for a fraction of the cost and you are there with other people working equally as hard which keeps you going. There is a healthy level of accountability to keep showing up everyday since other people will be there ready to work out with you. Phil and Diana, and the other trainers truly believe in each and every one of their clients and that is so empowering. They know everyone by name and spend time going out of their way to check in with how you're doing and feeling, and they support you in your journey. Now that I'm really doing this, really getting somewhere, I find myself thinking, why didn't I just do this before? Time passes whether we're working on our goals or not, might as well just go for it.
