I have ridden at Lynne's on and off for 20 years now. I have also worked at her barn on and off for that time. I have worked at other barns in that amount of time. I can tell you, that in that time, she has had less riders fall off due to her incredible amount of safety precautions she takes with her riders. Not to mention the horses she uses. They are ridden exclusively by the workers and her more advanced riders to make sure they are beginner/intermediate safe before they are ever used for such riders, and some horses will never be a beginner horse!\r

For anyone who has ever been in a barn, unless you a stripping the stalls on a daily or even weekly basis, you are never going to have the stalls white looking. The stalls are freshened as needed with new bedding. Old wet bedding and manure is taken out daily. Any GOOD horse person knows that a too dry stall is bad for your horses feet as well as a too wet stall. You should leave a bit of wet to mix in with new bedding to keep moisture in. I don't know any barn that doesn't. If they tell you they don't then they are lying to you.\r

I have been to barns that give you ""X"" amount of bedding a week for your horse and if your horse wets through it before the next cycle, then oh well..too bad. The horse either has nothing to lay on or you PAY more for more bedding. Lynne on the other hand, gives your horse bedding AS NEEDED!!\r

As for the mixing old wet with new, she no longer does that. She used to, yes, but does not anymore. I believe that is something from the past they used to do to have the bedding spread further. It is no longer in practice and hasn't been for over 2 years now. \r

All the horses are in good health. They are clean. They are fed 4-5 times a day. I often exercise the horses, especially during the winter when the riders are less since many don't want to ride in the cold. Let me tell you, if she is giving them tranquilizers, they sure don't act it! They have tons of energy to spare, thats why I am on them, or lunging them in the morning before lessons, otherwise, why bother if we are just going to drug them?\r

I don't know what instructor would tell anyone to ""grip with their knees"" but I know that is totally wrong and I am sorry to the person who was told that. I wish you would come back. \r
