ok, so when they first opened-up, they had a sign that said ""due to the crab yada, yada issue, our all you can eat special is cancelled"". somehting like that. i thought it was pretty uncool to air out the dirty laundry, so i never bothered to go there.\r \r this friday, my husband passed by and he said that they have lobster rolls, so we should try it. i'll be darned! the food was excellent. a bit pricey, but absolutely excellent. more

Great food but be prepared to wait 4/5/2008

I have been here several times and have always enjoyed a great meal. In fact, the cioppino might be the best I have ever had. It is amazing! My one complaint...it takes forever to get your food. I have been when it's filled and when it's empty...it doesn't matter. You are waiting for half an hour no matter what. Pros: Food Cons: Wait time more

Love the Food Love the Staff 11/13/2007

My husband and I eat here a couple of times a week. The crab is fantastic and they have the best spaghetti in the neighborhood. The fresh vegetables are grilled perfectly everytime. The staff is friendly and works as a team to make sure every customer is satisfied. The only downside for me is that they serve food in baskets which is a little too casual for me. Pros: Great crab, spaghetti and service Cons: Some food served in baskets more

Avoid 7/24/2007

The decor really drew me in because it looks like a good seafood restaurant. Unfortunately, it's really a waste of time and money. The crab in the cocktail was salty. The cooked dungeness crab was not good either. The calamari is over-breaded. The cocktail sauce was decent. I won't go back. Pros: decor Cons: Terrible food, no parking more

really disappointed 10/8/2006

I have tried this place twice as it looked cool from the outside. I have been disappointed both times. When I ordered the fried clams the tartar sauce was just mayonaise with nothing else I could find in it. The service is unfortunatley not much better. I was brought my check as I was eating my last bite. Real good to make people feel rushed when the restaurant was empty. From the outside the place looks great but the food does not match the decor. Pros: Maine ambience Cons: OK food and not good service more

great food, lunchtime server rude enough to keep me from coming back.....ever.... 9/23/2006

this is a great place for those yummy cold crabmeat and shrimp salads. it's got a great decor on the inside including a large screen television that is set into the wall and plays old movies. i liked the ocean motif. unfortunately the server during lunch was so rude to me that the thought of returning turns my stomach. as he came to our table to take our order i asked if the advocado or the artichoke was more popular, and his answer was, ""well, i don't know. one's an artichoke and one's an advocado. you need to make a decision."" it was one of those humiliating moments where i was totally caught off guard, sitting here taking attitude from this smug waiter with apparent anger issues, wondering how far i should take this. ever have one of those moments that just ruins your afternoon? this was definitely it..... Pros: excellent food, nice central location in sf Cons: if you aren't one of the neighborhood guys, you are apparently "out of the club" more

Exceptional 9/6/2006

The restaurant is across from the Safeway on Market near 16th Street. I went in because I was in the neighborhood. The interior is fairly no-frills, but I wanted seafood. I had no idea I would be writing a review for the place after eating there. I'm picky about the quality of my food.\r \r I ordered the Lobster Roll on the recommendation of the waiter. Never had Lobster Roll before, but like to try new foods. It came on a plain sandwich roll, which made me gasp a little. Where's my San Francisco sourdough roll?! So I started with the coleslaw. Ooh, this is not bad. Moved on to the thick cut onion rings. The batter was coming off a little, but as soon as I tasted one that didn't matter. Exceptional. Now for the Lobster Roll with the plain sandwich bun - ugh. Wait a minute . . . this Lobster is amazing. Now I get the plain roll, which goes perfectly not to interfere with the Lobster. All around, a great seafood meal.\r \r The service was good and pleasant. It's a no frills place. The wine selection could use a premium choice in each category, perhaps one really good red and one really good white. But even so, I'd probably bring a date here . . . which is saying a lot since I normally take dates to more high end places (USC in Manhattan, Boulevard, etc). \r \r Four months ago, the space was a hot dog restaurant. Now it's exceptional seafood for the price. Thanks! Pros: The Food, Simple Decor Cons: One good wine is needed (both red and white) more

These reviews must be plants 8/17/2006

The 1/2 dungeness crab was overcooked and dry. My wife's seafood ravioli was almost put together with Elmer's glue. There is no atmosphere here at all, aside from the Safeway sign across the street. Our waiter was wearing sunglasses at every visit (even after the sun went down), and when we asked to have the ravioli boxed up, he brought us a flat box that we had to build ourselves and slop the stuff in there with the fork and geeze, it was my 32nd birthday. It looked good from the reviews and almost romantic. It's like a fast-food restaurant with a wait staff that costs sixty bucks with a couple of glasses of wine. And crappy dry crab! Pros: Fast service, way too fast Cons: Diner-type environment, dry food more

RE: WICKED Good Chowda!! 6/25/2006

Well, I must say that I am highly dissapointed to return here for dinner and hear that the smiley guy with the glasses and accent is no longer there. How can a place trying to represent a New England style restaurant have no employees (including owners) from New England? Sad to say folks but I must say this place has gone down hill pretty fast. Since the opening, I've noticed that there is no longer a head chef either(even though he wasn't very friendly he made some mean chowda). This would greatly explain why the food has been so inconsistent. It may no longer be a sausage grill but it seems to be a sausage fest in there as I have yet to see one female worker (I remember a cute female manager a couple months ago, what happened to her?). IN fact, with the service, food quality, and ambience it is more like a fast food joint. As a dissapointed New Englander, I must say that unless the owners work on some serious changes, I am going to have to take back my original review in June and stick with this one. Pros: Price Cons: Quality of food and service more

Add Woodhouse to your weekly Rotation 6/18/2006

If you aren't rich and only drink in the kitchen then like me you probably have a weekly rotation of casual restaurants you get food from during the course of the week. The rotation consists of the basics, restaurants that are close to your house require little effort and less money. Burritos, burgers, maybe some pasta and sandwiches round out the core of the rotation. The problem is the rotation gets old so new places must be found, but usually theses trials end in failure with high prices, bad food, or bad environments keeping them out of the rotation. Seafood never stood a chance of making the rotation until now. I found it, The Woodhouse Fish Co. in the Castro, it is casual the food is incredible plentiful and simple, it is affordable enough to make it a weekly indulgence but not so cheap that it is suspect. Thank you Woodhouse for adding a restaurant to my rotation. Pros: Service, Price Cons: Parking is tough more

Just like Home....in Boston 6/14/2006

Excellent Seafood. The chowder, lobster, and crab-stuffed artichoke are delicous. Much like its casual New England inspired interior suggests, its menu is characteristically well-prepared and tasty. more

High Quality, Simple Seafood 6/14/2006

Quality seafood and generous portions is what makes this place great. The atmosphere is casual and the service is prompt and courteous. You won't be dissappointed. more

Fresh seafood, great staff, easy on the wallet 6/13/2006

Went there on a date last weekend. Oysters for sure ;-)\r \r Make sure to start with the chowder and finish with the lobster. Good call. Also, try and sit Dylan down (hes the owner) for an interesting conversation more

Best brunch spot 6/13/2006

This is what a true san francisco restaurant is supposed to be like... great seafood and great ambiance. This is the perfect brunch spot, it is super relaxed but still has that clean look, and I love the bowls the oysters are served in. Oh, and the service is great! more

My Savior on Market 6/12/2006

I've been looking for a place like this in SF for years! fresh, quality, no nonsense seafood.. try the new england roll, an incredible crab meat sandwhich on a perfect toasted sub roll. good for east coast transplants, sea food aficionados or people just looking for quality food! more

Clam Chowder will make you want to table dance! 6/12/2006

This place is INCREDIBLE! I never thought the west coast could harness the magic of New England seafood. Not only was my cup of CLAM CHOWDER the best I've had in the west, but it was the best I've had ever! And my meal of ARTICHOKE split with CRAB stuffed in one side and PRAWNS on the other was REVOLUTIONARY. Sorry to freak out here folks, but the Woodhouse Fish Company is my new favorite restaurant in the city. Pros: service rocks more
