Boulder is where the beautiful people live, in the case of The West End Tavern it is too bad this is not a place where quality chefs dwell. Pub grub - burgers, fish and chips, bbq seems easy enough. I went to The West End primarily because the reviews of the burgers were over the top. When people say something is the best that becomes the expectation. I really tier of the use of complex names to describe sub-par dishes. You look at the menu and feel as if you should be intimidated by the ”smoked bacon, balsamic greens & mayo on marble rye”. This is epidemic in the culinary field that equals excessive costs to the customer. How can restaurateurs make the ordinary sound good enough to charge inflated prices for? They give it a grandiose title and “BAM!!!”, that will be $20 please. Back to point. I ordered a cheeseburger, now be advised that a establishment that serves pub grub only has only four, yes I said four, variations of the hamburgers on the menu. Not to mention the reviews of these four burgers was just breathtaking. I think terms like “The best!!” were used. And of course the meat a special, locally raise and sanitized for your enjoyment. The truth is the meat was slightly overcooked and the lettuce was one nasty rib that was hanging off the side of the bun upon delivery. The cheese looked like something out of an adult movie, all liquidly and smeared all over the meat. The impotent selection of beer only has domestic lagers to choose from. Lagers not only go well with pub grub they are the best selection on a hot summer day. Please serve Stella! If this is the standard lord help us! You know Mickey D’s is right around the corner Pros: The View Cons: Reality more

Pretty good 4/29/2009

The view at this place is amazing. Every so often I can convince one of my co-workers to leave a little early from work with me and grab a drink at this spot to watch the sun set and relax a bit after a hectic day. Last week when Suzanne and I went we got a margarita but with a twist- it was made with patron and ty ku liqueur. Definitely the most refreshing marg I've had...and I have had my fair share. The happy hour wings are delicious! And girls seem to enjoy their salads. Its an alright place to go if you are in the area. Pros: View Cons: Service is mediocre more

Good place to go for grub and scenary 6/21/2008

We got to sit on the beautiful outdoor patio and enjoyed the sun going down with some good friends that came into town. Tasty salad, nice selection of drinks and the service was excellent. Reasonably price for the quality of restaurant. Pros: Atmosphere, Food Quality, Service more

best burgers in boulder! 9/18/2007

the west end burgers are incredible! absolutely delish! the wait staff could use lessons in being a bit nicer, but oh well. i'd recommend a burger with the wedge salad or fries. go for it! so good! Pros: burgers, location, decor, patio Cons: wait staff more

If it's a nice day out and you want to sit out side - West End Tavern 11/20/2006

If not - don't bother with this place. The food isn't that great and I have never had even decent service there! \r I don't think the wait staff really wanted to even bother with speaking to us yet alone bring us drinks. Bit of advice - go across the street, better food, MUCH better service Pros: Patio Cons: Everything else more

Not good 9/16/2006

It's got alright food during the day, but this place is way overpriced as far as Boulder bars go. I would not reccommend this place for a night out at the bars. The drinks are overpriced, the place isn't well planned causing crowds and bottlenecks everywhere, and its out of the way (and not in a good way). more

I can't figure out why our hotel recommended this place 7/22/2006

I think this might be OK if you are looking for a bar, but not a restaurant. The service was slow, the food mediocre, and the view from the back patio was of a parking lot, but you could see a little bit of a mountain. We were told this was a good place for kids, but it's not. They have a kids' menu, but the food just wasn't that great. Overall, I just wasn't impressed at all. Pros: Convenient location Cons: Bad food and service more

The Best Restraunt of all time 12/15/2005

Not only is teh location the best in boulder, but along with the exquisate food and the romantic view, i could not ask for a better restraunt. It is semi-crowded, the service is great, and the staff are some of the nicest people in Boulder. I go there once a week, and I've gotten something different every time. EVERYTHING is to die for. Especially the dessert with a big gooey cookie in a warm fryan topped with a creamy scoop of vanilla ice-cream. Pros: The Food, Location, View+Staff Cons: Foods too good more

Best Happy Hour Buffalo Wings 8/30/2005

The best happy our buffalo wings. Supreme quality and taste, unbeatable prices, reasonable times. Pros: happy hour food, roof top atmosphere Cons: service seems rushed more

Nice Patio, So-So Service 4/20/2005

While the patio is a great place to hang out, the service when we visited could have been better. Waited for twenty minutes for our drink orders on an afternoon on Sunday and were about to walk out - something I've never done in a restaurant! It wasn't terribly busy and there were plenty of seats available. Food wasn't bad. Grilled cheese and tomato soup was tasty, but soup wasn't very hot by time it got to us. Pork sandwich was good with great fries. Pros: Nice Patio, Tasty Food Cons: Slow Service more

The real thing 7/24/2002

The view, the food, the view - West End Tavern is a great place to grab lunch, dinner or drinks, and has long been a favorite for bringing the out of towners and first dates. Weekend brunch is an especially popular time, and The West End is well-known for its gorgeous Bloody Mary's and big plates of Mexican breakfasts. Pros: Best view in Boulder, Mature atmosphere, Casual Cons: Long waits, Slow service more
