I attended a taping of e-town at the Boulder Theater recently and I was entranced by the beauty of this historical building. From the mid 1920's to the late 70's this building served as a movie theater, but now it houses all sorts of quirky and alternative entertainment. the large center bar serves drinks for all and the acoustics are quite good. Their upcoming event calendar lists an impressive array of entertainment suitable for a wide audience. the e-town taping, featuring the Gourds and Michelle something or other (darned if I can recall her name, but she was good!) was great fun.

I stumbled on the Middle Fish accidently a few months ago. I tend to come back whenever I need gifts for people who have everything. One can find anything from traditional to bizarre, and spend hours going over everything. The prices are fairly good for what they offer.

We couldn't be happier, and I can’t recommend Marilee Langner Photographer highly enough. It's a miracle she was available to shoot our wedding. She has a way of capturing your special day in a way that makes anyone feel like they were right there with you. Her work is sincere and shows warmth and genuine expression. We look forward to using Marilee to capture future moments in our life, and are more than happy to offer more information about our experience with her service.

Boulder Sports Recycler is exactly that – a great place to buy used outdoor equipment. They carry bikes, skis, backpacks, snowshoes… you name it. Large items and accessories can both be found for a deal. It’s hit or miss though, because the items are brought in by individual owners and sold on a commission structure. Yes! Sell your own stuff there. The more you sell, the less you own… less is more, more or less.

We went to the BMOCA Avant Garden annual fundraiser last night. Amy and I are trustees of the museum and strong supports. 150 people showed up for the fundraiser, which was edgier this year than normal (and very fun). The art was cool, the dinner was very well done by the likes of Aji and Full Moon Grill, and the scene was a blast.

If you want to support local budding artists, go to Art Mart! It is a huge co-op, that has a ton of original art! It is so much fun to go in and look around at everything they have to offer. They always have great photographs of Boulder, the foothills and Colorado in general. They also have a wonderful selection of candles and jewelery! My kids love going in there because the staff is so nice to them and they always get a free balloon!

More
As hip, contemporary, and progressive as Boulder is, it's lacking in public art and theater spaces. The two main players in town are BMOCA (the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art) and the Dairy Center for the Arts.
The Dairy is a great, large building that houses a number of Boulder's arts organizations. It's central space is an excellent gathering / meeting space that regularly has outstanding exhibits of local artists (and occassionally not so local artists - like my mom - Cecelia Feld - www.studio7310.com). The theater is larger (seats a couple of hundred) and has edgy, contemporary, hilarious, and often excellent shows.
The Dairy is currently being run by Mollie Fager, who does an extraordinary job. If you are a Boulderite that has never been to the Dairy, look for a excute to go check it out.

it's been fun to see Phix at the Fox. the fox is just barely not intimate enough to make dancing comfortable, and it's wired for 18+ shows. there's photos on the wall of all sorts of people who have played there (note '93 images of trey anastasio and jon fishman). good to see national acts here!
