I have been going Full Cycle on the Hill for some 10 years now. I have always been treated well and never too pushy.
What I like the most is that the staff is very low key but at the same time knowledgeable about multitude bikes and accessories they sell.
Couple of times I have had a chance to interact with the mechanics I have found them also eager to help and explain how to keep my bike in running right.
I do know that the owners of Full Cycle have opened another store downtown which is much bigger with more bikes to select from. However the the original Hill store remains my favorite one.
When you visit the Hill store if it's lunch time check out the sandwich shop next door. Awesome sandwiches. Especially the toasted ones.

Pros: Service
Cons: Parking may be a challenge

The selection of games, kites, toys, and what-knot in this fun toystore will bring out the kind in everyone. Unique, fun ,playful gifts is this store's specialty. Something different and interesting in nearly every corner. Even the staff seems to have a good time at Into the Wind. They're located right on the Pearl Street Mall.

I've only shopped here a handful of times, but have always been impressed by the amount of merchandise available. Everything they sell they have in a wide range of prices also. So if you're just a casual skier you don't have to spend thousands - but if you want to, you can! And when it's off-season, you can find some truly amazing deals!

I really like to shop for running shoes at Boulder Running Company. Their friendly staff is always ready to help you find a shoe that works for your needs, and they check out your running form on the treadmill and let you try out the shoes outside on the sidewalk and/or the parking lot. What I really like is that you get the same great service including the treadmill assessment even if you're just picking up a pair of shoes from the sale display and want to see if they'll work out-- the staff don't force you to get the latest model.
The store also has a good selection of socks and other apparel. The give discounts, too, to members of high school and college teams.

Boulder Sports Recycler is exactly that – a great place to buy used outdoor equipment. They carry bikes, skis, backpacks, snowshoes… you name it. Large items and accessories can both be found for a deal. It’s hit or miss though, because the items are brought in by individual owners and sold on a commission structure. Yes! Sell your own stuff there. The more you sell, the less you own… less is more, more or less.

University Bicycles is a Boulder mainstay. Stop in for service, tubes or other bike accessories, shop for bikes, or just pull up to their outside workbench and give your bike a tune-up. If you’re bike shopping, they have no problem with letting you take one or more of their rides out for a spin. They’re located at the heart of downtown Boulder on 9th street and Pearl.

More
As hip, contemporary, and progressive as Boulder is, it's lacking in public art and theater spaces. The two main players in town are BMOCA (the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art) and the Dairy Center for the Arts.
The Dairy is a great, large building that houses a number of Boulder's arts organizations. It's central space is an excellent gathering / meeting space that regularly has outstanding exhibits of local artists (and occassionally not so local artists - like my mom - Cecelia Feld - www.studio7310.com). The theater is larger (seats a couple of hundred) and has edgy, contemporary, hilarious, and often excellent shows.
The Dairy is currently being run by Mollie Fager, who does an extraordinary job. If you are a Boulderite that has never been to the Dairy, look for a excute to go check it out.

I went here soon after my first son was born and I was able to meet other people with new babies and make some friends. It really helped since I didn't otherwise have people to discuss infant/motherhood issues with. Before long, however, I found my own network of parents/friends and lost interest in PP. I'm still glad I went and I think it plays a very important role in helping new parents (and those with older children) feel connected. They also offer groups for dads, single moms and foreign language speakers. This is a non-profit organization, so they take donations per meeting or you can sign up for an annual membership.
